I always loved the enigmatic side of wrestling, since I am one of its biggest fan.
There is a fascinating combination of athletics and story-telling that makes wrestling absorbing, but it also leaves some questions and riddles unanswered.
In this blog post, I would like to take a look at some of the most frustrating moments in professional wrestling and offer my own take on them.
Let’s talk about the Montreal Screwjob – an incident that rocked the foundations of wrestling forever. Imagine this: Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart is going up against Shawn Michaels during Survivor Series 1997.
All of a sudden, Vince McMahon, who is WWE’s big boss, pulls a fast one by taking away the belt from Hart without him even knowing it had happened. Was it all part of the show or there was real betrayal?
Over time, fans debate what really happened in Screw job making it one of the hottest topics in wrestling.
Similarly, there’s a question mark about what happened to “Macho Man” Randy Savage. In the nineties, Savage was one of WWE’s biggest stars but one day he vanished from our tubes without a clue.
Gossip abounded about problems backstage and his personal life but the truth is still shrouded in mystery. Though his disappearance was temporary and he reappeared in another wrestling company, fanatics remained puzzled as to why he quickly left WWE.
Another aspect of wrestling culture includes conspiracy theories. There are those who think that some matches are rigged or predetermined by the promoters’ interest.
Even though we understand that wrestling is a prearranged act, the idea that matches are fraud raises issues on whether or not it is genuine.
- Are wrestlers involved in deciding their match results or do they just follow instructions?
It is an issue which continually leaves supporters speculating and arguing endlessly.
In the end, wrestling remains a mystery, which is one of the things that make it so appealing to its fans. This majorly occurs in instances such as “the Montreal Screwjob” or when Randy Savage suddenly disappeared; these are some of the moments that fans become interested and start talking about.
Although never being able to get all answers, looking into these questions is just part of why wrestling fans like myself find it enjoyable.
