Djinn Apprentice | My entry for this week's Splinterlands Social media challenge
Splinterlands Social Media Challenge for this week!
Hello guys and welcome back to my new blog. It's a new week so it's time to participate in this week's social media challenge from Splinterlands. I made my entry for this challenge quite early this time because I missed two opportunities last month. I thought I participated in all of them at the right time but unfortunately I was wrong because of post timing issues. That's fine so I prepared ahead this time and this artwork was sitting in my phone for a week now I think.
For this week I painted Djinn Apprentice in my style. I picked this card because of two things, the colour palette and because he looks like a Genie hehe. Two things I liked to do in one painting haha. Its like hitting two birds with one stone lol. The Genie form was already made with the lineart itself. As for the colour palette, Red and blue is a pretty potent combo so I wanted to paint him in my style so here he is ready to say hello to you all!
Djinn Apprentice
The process...
I did some digging on Pinterest for the perfect pose for his bad boy. I was looking for a buff body for reference and luckily I watch dragon ball anime alot and if you know the show then you will also know that the series is filled up buffed up characters. If you look at Djinn he resembles Frieza in some way so I decided to use Frieza's form as pose reference for this artwork.
I only needed to finish one side of the pose since it's a front pose so we can pretty much use the symmetry ruler to draw the other half. No need to work extra hard on both sides here. After the lineart was done on Ibis I started to paint him with respect to source light as shown in my work. I used 3 layer shading here to give it a depth, 2 shade layers and one highlight layer. I did made one more highlight with yellow here to show the strong light source here. Also it's pretty obvious that yellow and red look really good with each other. To be honest it's not the shading that gives the art here it's aesthetic value, it's actually the aesthetic body I managed to produce from the reference image. Since Symmetry was also involved it looked perfect on both sides after painting.
Another good news is that while I was making this artwork, I found smudge tool to be really useful for painting and blending the blue clouds. I was really surprised with how it turned out here. Perhaps the newest variant of Ibis fix the issue with smudge tool. Anyway I was able to finish painting it quickly. Finally the background was done with the main image itself with a bit of blur and tweaking and setting the resultant background in overlay more twice. Then I added some circular focus strands in overlay mode as well. After I was done with that I finished the artwork by adding lightning around the clouds and after that the painting was completed.

amazing art!
Thank you ☺️
Wicked entry!! Definitely nailed the dragon ball vibes. Nicely done! 😎
Thanks Ema! Gotta thank lord frieza for the strong pose reference haha.
Yeah! Your version of Djinn is Frieza's long lost brother 😆
Must be his variant in the multiverse 🤣.
😂 lol. Once I finish watching all of Naruto, I'm strongly considering watching all the Dragon Ball series from the beginning...
Oh damn, that's a long watch but definitely worth it hehe. The Frieza saga is the best in my opinion.
Yeah, that would probably take a year or 2! Feieza is an interesting character, probably on a top 10 list somewhere
Yeah if you watch it slowly it will take that long for sure. This is why I ditched Naruto XD.
Ohh! No! Lol. It definitely takes its time with the story development 😆. It has taken me a year or so, still have about 100 episodes left, ha!
Damn! You almost finished it. I lost interest in it while watching a second time last year because of the old animation haha.
Haha, yes, it's a little bit aged now. But I don't mind 😊.
I also have lots of new pending animes to watch so I had to ditch it like that. I used to watch it everyday on TV in Cartoon Network Channel but they kinda stopped airing it after some episodes. That was annoying but it was replaced by DBZ but they did the same thing with DBZ as well lol.
Yes, it's very freaking annoying to watch any series on TV networks. Even streaming services do that. On disc is best! Physical copy in hand.
I must say, you have improved a loooot! 🤩🤩🤩 congraaaats!!!!
Yeah I was constantly posting Splinterlands artworks for a while now. I learnt some stuff over time hehe.
Thanks again hehe
He also looks like Piccolo, but much more evil and powerful. Excellent.
Yep they are both bald and have similar facial structure hehe.
Thanks bro ☺️
I will just say this:
Thanks bro 🤩
