5-Year Anniversary Burn Event

image.png

When DEC-B was announced several months ago, many purchased DEC-B for land upgrades and GUILD upgrades. Since then, LAND surveying was released, and buildings have been available for purchase. Therefore some of the DEC-B were already used in the last several weeks.

The other use case was for future GUILD upgrades. If you are in this camp, this 5-year Burn Event is perfect for you to burn your DEC-B during this time. Why? You get the 1:1 DEC-B to GUILD POWER, meaning you get the same value for GUILD building upgrades. In addition, you can win some extra prizes that might be worth $5 or $100!

What if you are not a DEC-B holder?
This is where it might be harder to determine. DEC is needed for Land Staking. DEC is needed to purchase other assets. Is it worth it to burn your DEC? If you plan on donating 20K or 30K to your GUILD, that might help you burn that much. However, is it worth it to burn DEC? The answers are much harder to determine. The value you give up today, will you get anything back? Would buying other assets (cards, land, SPS, etc.) be a better value since DEC will have a cap because of the soft peg?

Town Hall - May 15 - SPS Staking

Since this was announced 10 days ago, we have heard many people against this. I understand their view, but my opinion is only based on my experience.

I play primarily in the silver league using a Bronze Deck. In my FIRST year of playing, I earned less than 100 SPS. Read that again. I played for a FULL year and earned LESS than what many of you might make in a day or a season. My SPS earnings now can range between 30-100 SPS per season (during on daily chest, EoS chest and Guild Brawl).

I'm all for SPS staking. Sure, it means I will earn less RP in Silver 3, but that is without me BUYING a single SPS. Even if I play in higher silver leagues, I'm nowhere near 11K Sps. But this system was designed to encourage SPS staking and buying of SPS. Most people don't buy SPS because they get it for FREE via ranked battles.

Now before you get mad, we are not TONE deaf. We all (most*) purchase cards to play #Splinterlands. I'm in the same boat. SPS Staking can fix the issue with multi-accounting, which includes bot-farm problems. I feel many are mad because of the impact of the rewards being reduced. If the system was designed so that some can exploit the system, then that is where the "wealth redistribution" problem happens. We are shifting rewards disproportionately to the wrong account holders.

I don't blame multi-accounts / bot-farm owners. The market will take advantage of loopholes that exist. So it is a good thing. Now that the team has added utility for SPS and fixing other issues with this change, it will be good for the long-term outlook of the game.

Land V1.5 and Beyond

Lands is a new dimension to this story. Land using CARDS (the primary asset in a Trading Card Game) gives asset holders different use cases. Cards can be used in WILD format, rented out to others and now as workers on LAND. Older "workers" get a bonus on land, creating a floor on some older cards.

We can think of LAND as using NFT (cards) that will produce other cards/assets in the game. This helps everyone that owns cards.

Land also requires DEC staking, so that also creates some demand for DEC.

Encouraging Ownership over Renting/Scholars

After playing SPL for over a year, I think this game can benefit non-asset holders, sometimes more than those with assets. I also understand some of this was due to the BEARISH market cycle that impacts all CARDS ASSET prices!!

For example, should I move my bronze deck up to a silver/gold deck today? The answer is NO! The best thing to do is rent 2 or 3 Silver/Gold level Summoners and a few key cards to help me win at the higher leagues. The benefit of this method should be a higher ROI on my "investment". If I can spend less than $2 or $3 a season, my rewards may be worth much more than that (especially if I can earn Gold EoS Chest).

A streamer shared about his cards worth over 500K USD, now worth less than 10% of that. Imagine spending money on CARDS and losing 90% of the value. At the same time, imagine someone that put in $15 or $25, and this account is now worth $30 or $40. That is a positive net value change.

I know this might not always be true, but for now, it still makes sense to be a renter and borrower of other people's cards! I believe the solution is to fix some of the problems we have. This will help drive more players into being NFT owners. Renting should be more expensive, just like the housing industry!

Last thoughts

SPL is entering 5 years, and I'm relatively new here. I believe in many of the recent changes Aggy/Matt are doing. I believe in the team and the project. After all the stories I hear from players that have "cashed out" with profits and are still around, tell me there are more to come.

Ultimately, you need to play your cards (pun intended) as you see fit. Everyone has different goals and agendas. We also min/max using different approaches.

I will collect reards cards and see what happens when Rebellion comes out.
