Close Range on the battlefield

avatar

Hello everyone, welcome to another post of mine about Splinterlands. This will be another post about battle rules, this week's rule will be Close Range. I will tell you what its function is and what strategy I usually use when this rule is active in battle.

What is the Close Range rule?

Close Range is one of the battle rules in Splinterlands, in this rule all ranged cards gain the ability to attack in first position.

Originally ranged cards have a big disadvantage which is not being able to attack in the first position and this can be a big problem in battles since you will depend a lot on the cards that are in front of your ranged cards, since if they are defeated then the ranged cards will start to occupy the top position and become unable to perform attacks. But with the Close Range rule you won't have to worry about that because your cards will be able to attack in first position and all that disadvantage will disappear.

Even though with the Close Range rule you are able to use ranged cards in first position, you still have to be careful with placement because many ranged cards have low health so they would be weak as tank cards in the game. Having a good strategy is essential to achieving victory.

In battles I usually use few ranged cards, usually only 2 because their disadvantage can become a big problem later, but when the Close Range rule is active in battle I increase my number of ranged cards because most are very powerful and with great abilities, in addition I can also use the summoner General Sloan to increase their attack and give me an even greater advantage in battle.

Pelacor Arbalest is one of my favorite ranged cards to combine with the summoner General Sloan, it has the ability Double Strike that allows it to attack 2x in the round so its attack is extremely strong and will be very useful to defeat my opponent's cards.

At higher levels he has an even stronger attack and the ability Flying that increases his chances of dodging melee and ranged attacks, he certainly cannot be missing in my battles with the life deck but I also have to be careful with his mana cost which is a bit high.

Now to show the Close Range rule in practice I will demonstrate how it is very useful throughout a battle.

BATTLE

With the Close Range rule active I didn't have to worry about having my ranged cards unable to attack in first position and as I used the summoner General Sloan so I put a very high number of ranged cards to maximize my attack.

Watch the Battle

Having a powerful attack would be essential to end the battle as quickly as possible because in addition to the Close Range rule, the battle also had the Earthquake rule that caused 2 physical damage per round to cards that do not have the ability Flying.

This battle was a race against time because my cards didn't have a high amount of life so I needed to finish quickly, but it wouldn't be a big problem to do that because my attack was pretty strong thanks to General Sloan's buff.

My opponent also thought the same and tried to use the maximum ranged cards in the battle together with the summoner General Sloan.

Both sides had great cards but there could only be one winner, so after several attacks and the first round ended the advantage was in my favor and after the effect of the Earthquake rule was activated my opponent was left with few cards left, so I only needed a few more attacks to achieve victory.
