CounterSpell, A Rule that Spell Cards will Hate

Hello everyone, welcome to another post of mine about Splinterlands. This will be another post about battle rules, this week's rule will be CounterSpell, you certainly don't want to have cards with magic attack when this rule is active on the battlefield.

What is the CounterSpell rule?

When the CounterSpell rule is in battle it will give the Magic Reflect ability to all monsters in the battle, this means that your monsters and your opponent's monsters will gain this ability.

The Magic Reflect ability works in a simple way, it will activate whenever a magic attack hits a target that has the Magic Reflect ability, then after the target is hit it will deal the damage of the attack divided by 2 (rounded up) of goes back to the monster that dealt magic attack damage.

A simple example so you can better understand how the ability works. If a monster with 3 magic attack attacks a monster with Magic Reflect ability then it will receive half of its attack value as reflected damage after the attack is performed, the attack is 3 so half would be 1.5 but it is not possible to receive that amount damage in Splinterlands so the value is rounded up to 2, so the monster with 3 magic attack that attacked the monster with the Magic Reflect ability will take 2 damage.

This is the kind of rule that makes you wonder whether or not it's worth using cards with a magic attack in battle, since every attack they make will deal damage to them. In my case I don't usually use cards with magic attack when this rule is active, since the disadvantages are greater than the advantages, but it will also depend on the type of battle you will face and having another rule in the battle will also affect a lot the decision, but I always try to choose cards with magic attack as my last option and a simple and very effective strategy that I like to use is to maximize the damage of this rule with the ability Amplify and also with other abilities like Thorns and Return Fire in the battle.

As an example for this week's battle I will use a summoner that in my opinion matches this rule very well, this summoner is Mylor Crowling and when he is in my battles with the Counter Spell rule I will have the advantage against monsters with magic attack and melee since my monsters will have the Magic Reflect ability and the Thorns ability.

BATTLE

To better explain how powerful this combination of abilities is I will demonstrate it through a battle, follow along as Magic Reflect and Thorns are an amazing combination to have.

In this example as I mentioned before Mylor Crowling will be my summoner and his function will be to give the Thorns ability to all my monsters.

Watch the Battle

The Thorns ability will do 2 physical damage whenever a monster with a melee attack deals damage to a monster that has the Thorns ability, so in addition to having Magic Reflect which will be very useful against magic attacks you will also have Thorns which will be very useful against melee attacks so the only type of card that will not be affected against you will be monsters with ranged attack.

The chances of your opponent using monsters with magic or melee attack are very high so you can be sure that you will have a great advantage in battle when using this combination.

In the battle of the image above as you can see I tried to avoid using monsters with magic attack but in the case of the Wood Nymph I used it because the benefit of having it with its Tank Heal ability was very high, on the other hand my opponent avoided 100% using it monsters with magic attack but couldn't avoid having monsters with melee attack so I already had a big advantage over him.

This was a low mana battle so it didn't last very long, but it was enough to demonstrate the power of this combination and although the CounterSpell rule wasn't very useful against my opponent Thorns was very useful and it was thanks to her that the my chances of winning increased a lot. But the CounterSpell rule was still useful because it prevented my opponent from choosing powerful magic attack cards for battle.
