Fire & Regret rule on the Battlefield

Hello everyone, welcome to another post about Splinterlands. This will be a post about battle rules and this week's rule will be Fire & Regret. You probably don't want to have ranged monsters in battle when this rule is active.

What is the Fire & Regret rule?

Fire & Regret is one of the battle rules in Splinterlands, its function will be to grant the Return Fire ability to all monsters on the battlefield, this means that your monsters and your opponent's monsters will receive this ability.

Fire & Regret is the type of rule that gives a big disadvantage to a specific type of monster in battles, in this case it will be monsters with ranged attack that will have this disadvantage since the Return Fire ability will affect them.

The Return Fire ability is represented by the image above and its function will be to return part of the received ranged damage, to explain it in more detail I will use a simple example:

Let's consider that your monster has the Return Fire ability and that monster will receive a ranged attack from the opponent's monster, after your opponent's ranged monster attacks your monster that has the Return Fire ability, your opponent's monster will receive 1/2 of the damage dealt back to him.

When the Fire & Regret rule is active in battle you will have to think carefully if using ranged cards will be a good choice or not as they will have a big disadvantage in battle.

To better explain how this rule works I will demonstrate it through a battle.

BATTLE

Watch the Battle

In this battle there are 2 active rules which are Fire & Regret and Aimless. In the Aimless rule all monsters get the Scattershot ability, that means they will attack a random enemy monster.

For the battle I chose the death deck and used the summoner Thaddius Brood, it will reduce the magic attack and life of my opponent's cards by -1. As the Fire & Regret rule is active and I believe that my opponent will not choose many ranged monsters for the battle so the summoner Thaddius Brood will be of great help since this way I can reduce my opponent's magic attack since melee and magic attacks will be the best choices for this battle.

Unfortunately my opponent didn't choose monsters with magic attack but Thaddius Brood will still be useful reducing the health of his monsters.

My available mana is 16 and I have selected 3 monsters that in my opinion will be very useful in battle.

1 - In the first position I chose Cursed Windeku which is an excellent defense and has the Thorns ability. The Thorns ability will deal 2 physical damage when a melee attack hits Cursed Windeku.

2 - In the second position I chose Revealer which is a monster with a magic attack that has the Stun ability, this will be a very useful ability to reduce the chances of my opponent attacking.

3 - In the third position I chose Xenith Archer, it is a ranged monster that will be affected by the Fire & Regret rule but it will not be so easily defeated and its mana cost is low so that's why I chose it.

My opponent also chose 3 monsters, 1 of them ranged and 2 melee, his choice wasn't bad but I had Cursed Windeku and Revealer in the battle so his chances of winning were low since his monsters had little health.

This was a quick battle, it only lasted 1 round and despite the Fire & Regret rule, the star of this battle was Cursed Windeku with his Thorns ability.
