Mages will be your best allies in a battle without abilities

Hello everyone, welcome to another post of mine about Splinterlands, in this post I will talk about cards with magic attack and how they are incredibly powerful and useful for battles, especially when there is the Back to Basics rule.

Why are magic cards great choices?

The answer to this question is quite simple. Cards with magic attack can attack in any position so you won't have to worry about her being incapacitated in some position like melee and ranged cards, in addition cards with magic attack ignore the opposing cards' shield and attack directly to life, which make them great choices for offense.

But not everything is perfect, cards with magic attack have weaknesses and they are the abilities Void, Magic Reflect and Void Armor.

  • Against cards with void ability, cards with magic attack will only do half damage because ability reduces damage taken from magic attacks by half.

  • The ability Magic Reflect is another natural enemy of cards with magic attack because this ability will bounce part of the damage taken back to the card, so if a card with magic attack attacks a card with the ability Magic Reflect, it will take part of the damage caused.

  • Finally we have the ability Void Armor which would be the least problematic, this ability makes the shield useful against magic attacks, so cards with magic attack that attack cards with shield and with the ability Void Armor will have to destroy the shield first to then deal damage to the opposing card's life.

But what does the Back to Basics rule have to do with all this?

The answer to this question is also simple, with the Back to Basics rule all cards lose their abilities and that means that cards with magic attack will no longer have their weaknesses since even if the opposing card has any of the 3 above abilities will be useless because they all lose effect in this rule.

Whenever I enter a battle with the Back to Basics rule I automatically think of filtering for cards with magic attack and selecting as many as possible.

BATTLE

Watch the Battle

In this battle I faithfully followed my thinking on using magic cards and selected all 6 cards with magic attack, but I should have thought better about my strategy and used at least 1 melee tank card with a lot of health to increase my chances of winning.

  • The battle had 36 available mana and the Back to Basics rule

My opponent also shared the same thought as me and he selected several cards with magic attack, the only difference was his tank card which was melee and that was exactly what I was thinking of doing.

I would say that the damage level on both sides was very similar, the big difference that would decide the result would be the speed and for my bad luck it was exactly what I lacked the most since I had several low speed cards.

The battle didn't last long, just 4 rounds and it was basically a battle of speed and stamina as all the cards depended only on their basic stats (attack, speed and life) to win.

I had hope that I could win even after seeing my opponent's team, I had a good front line with cards with a lot of life and also great cards for the attack but it was just an illusion of mine and after starting the battle and finishing the first round I soon realized that defeat awaited me, unfortunately I blindly went to fill my battlefield with magic attacks and didn't think to see my options better and that was my biggest mistake. My opponent on the other hand realized that a frontline and speed are the keys to victory in this type of battle and I was defeated completely.

Despite being defeated I prefer to see defeat as a teacher and now my eyes are more open for this type of battle and next time I will think better about my strategy, but of course I will use several cards with magic attack because I believe that they are still the best choices for this type of battle.

This is a simple but very effective strategy, I hope you enjoyed it. If you want you can also look and participate in my daily giveaway that can be found on my blog.
