Celebrating 25k SPS Staked | Looking back on first third of the airdrop

Today was the day: I passed the 25k Staked SPS Milestone!

I noticed that this happened around the time that a little over a third of the SPS airdrop had passed. I was actually busy writing other posts for next week, but decided to do a little freewrite / looking back post first...

Start of the airdrop

Last summer, I was busy studying, preparing for a little holiday, I noticed many people talking about Splinterlands again.

Thanks to @peakmonsters I had my cards rented out through 'V1' of the rental market they offered back then, but since it wasn't easy to understand the rental market through that app I had left it alone on very low rental prices for months.

Vaguely I had noticed V2 becoming a thing, but well, time was scarce, people were ill, I was busy...

Finally I started reading, and I realized my cards were now being rewarded in SPS, the future Splinterlands Governance Token, all calculated from the cards I was holding and the DEC (which I received from the rental income) I was holding.

I realized I needed to look into that rental market ASAP! Updating the rentals through @peakmonsters rental market was a breeze, and from there on my Adrenaline was sky high.

Because: DEC income reached about 30-50$ a day (!) in the weeks after, and SPS thanks to more airdrop points rewarded for DEC holding as well...

Phase 2 of the airdrop

I started optimizing here and there, listening to @sjarvie5's tips on how to grow the rental income, reading @peakmonsters posts, checking @splintertalk's trending page, checking into an AMA here and there...

More and more info started coming out, amongst which the shocking announcement that the next Card Packs named Chaos Legion would be sold based on the vouchers you owned, based on the amount of SPS you had staked...

First I was appalled and thought this was just too much, another token for the same game? But I soon realized how popular the game had become (it was the same time that Splinterlands started growing serious daily player numbers and new accounts), and that vouchers were a nice way to make sure that cards wouldn't be sold out from day 1.

Reading the Mavericks Channel on the Splinterlands Discord I saw whale after whale expressing disappointment that vouchers would keep them from investing as much as they wanted - which is actually a good thing - in the end.

I calculated through splintercards.com I needed about 3000 more SPS staked to get the amount of vouchers I wanted, so I bought 3000 more SPS and staked them.

Vouchers & Packs

I collected my 100 (120) vouchers and bought packs recently. Now, these vouchers were going for a pretty sum on the markets, so I could've sold for HIVE and played a different game where I waited for general sale with my extra HIVE, but I decided to just 'play the game how Splinterlands had written it'... I never have regretted investing even 1$ in Splinterlands and have no doubt that everything I'm doing today with my investment will pay back in one way ore another.

So YES, on December 8th I will be opening 130+ packs (10% bonus packs were awarded in pre-sale) and I will probably buy a few more in 'round 2' and/or General Sale. Opening most of them, waiting for the insanely cool airdrops I'm now eligible to, and maybe buying a few packs to keep unopened as unopened packs have historically become a pretty goldmine after only a few months of sale ending.

Another two-thirds of SPS airdrop coming?

It's crazy, but this airdrop will be here for another few months. My airdrop points have only been growing, maybe people unstaked some SPS so my share was able to grow compared to others - I'm not complaining.

With SPS at a low and HIVE at a nice high(ish, but compared to the stable 80 cents we've seen for weeks!) it's a HUGE opportunity to buy in and join the game.

Yes, I could sell my SPS and the crazy thing about that is it would be about the same amount in $ as my first full-time salary when I just finished University... But I won't. The SPS price can only go up from here and I'm still earning almost 50% APR - there's currently no better ROI I can think of, so staking it is.

I expect great things for SPS as it will be used for Governance, but also Land maintenance and entry for big tournaments. Super bullish on the future, I end my writing here. A pure freewrite - but I wanted to share my excitement for reaching this milestone <3

What have you been doing with your SPS airdrop?

25k staked SPS? that is beautiful, I just looked at your landed point via that screenshot and it was totally massive, congratulations, you're really winning big on Splinterlands.
As per me, I get 4 SPS daily and I aim to actually use them to buy more card for collection power to leave bronze II

Growing your collection power with SPS is smart too! In the end if you want to play the game having cards of your own is the best strategy :-)

I would recommend staking a percentage as well as in the future without SPS you'll miss out on a lot of opportunities and SPS will become more expensive than it is now. But that's just my 2 cents, I can't look into the future :D

Yeah i've staked some percentage as well, just trying to get around with what I have to maximize for the best of options. Congratulations to you. Whew!!!!

Ohhh - good for you! I think you're doing great, glad you decided to spend time on Splinterlands, the game is still early and has much to offer the next few years :-)

Do you know anything or totally nothing about Splinterlands? I'm always open for answering questions :D

I don't even know whether I need cash or not to start playing.

It's really easy:

  • You go to the Splinterlands website
  • You log in with your Hive username (via Keychain or username + password/posting key)
  • You can start playing for free with a 'borrowed' set of cards that's immediately available to every player!

Then, if you like the game and want to earn 'real' money/cards/rewards, you can buy the 'Spellbook' from the Shop page. This gives you the first 10 cards that you OWN yourself and aren't borrowed anymore. Whenever you win Credits or DEC you can buy more cards and grow from there :-)

A Spellbook costs 10$, and can be paid in PayPal, but also with Hive or any other crypto after clicking 'Crypto' :-)

I hope you'll take a look and try it out! Let me know if you have more questions :-) Cheers!

Congrats on that milestone. I'm on my way to a milestone of my own ... not as big as yours. But still a huge milestone for me. I had to sell off my splinterlands cards two times, so I can only be very grateful for the chance to start all over again. And while I'm preparing for that ... receiving and staking SPS.

Good for you, closing in to 5000 SPS! Glad you were able to start over again indeed, it's such a regret to not be part of the growth of this game, so I'm happy you are :-) Keep on going! :D

i want to get to 10k after that we will see. i thought it will already be listed on some bigger exchanges but that not happening only helped me with decision of staking all :D

calculated through splintercards.com I needed about 3000 more SPS staked to get the amount of vouchers I wanted, so I bought 3000 more SPS and staked them.

doing what you preach :D i ended up buying 2 vouchers to get to 50 :)

unopened packs have historically become a pretty goldmine after only a few months of sale ending.

the willpower has to be strong for that :) i like opening cards to much

10k is a huge milestone!

I know the exchanges are not chased after because that could be a little bit too soon, once some technical issues with the servers have been solved I know they want to try exchanges as they can then handle the new users signing up better :-) I love how far we've come WITHOUT big listings! Shows a lot of promise for the future :-)

doing what you preach :D i ended up buying 2 vouchers to get to 50 :)

YES! I followed my own advise :D Worked out for me, but buying 2 vouchers is not that much so that's a great decision too :-)

the willpower has to be strong for that :) i like opening cards to much

I WANT to keep a few unopened, but afraid I can't either, lol... Will have to find a way to 'forget' I own packs :P

well that make sense, first fixing servers to work with the number of new people.

Yay a great Splinterlands update. I am SUPER bullish too. I am excited about the future of Splinterlands, the continuation of the airdrop and opening packs and getting more rental cards in a few days!

Congrats on the huge achievement. 25k is massive to have.
That could be worth a lot in the future and play a huge part in the game.

Thanks! :D 25k is a nice sum for someone who bought in 2018 and almost never played :-) Very happy with how that small investment is turning out! :D I've seen your posts on buying cards, glad you're enjoying the economy of Splinterlands as well :-)

Love playing the game but I didn't get in at the very start.
That's why I'm trying to catch up now and build a stronger account.

Being early is so important for anything here.

Congrats. You're set up for success. I can't seem to catch the Chaos Legion fever and only got 8 packs for fun, but I do like the land aspect and am willing to bet on a fixed supply. Has the new release thrown off the balance of your rental empire, or is the demand still the same?

Rental income has been lower now as people rightfully are purchasing packs and cards from the market. Good thing I believe as the overall system needs to grow, not just my income :-) Airdrop still raising though, so when SPS is pumping I’ll be set of I put some of that money into stables for 20% APY.

The only stablecoin I know at 20% is UST. Are there more?! I'm drawing a blank... are you into land ownership?

UST is still the way to go, although some layers onto Anchor are appearing, and BUSD gives some nice returns also if pooling right.

I own 3 PLOT, not much, but only bought 1-2 months ago - if HIVE pumps I'll buy 1-2 more :-)
