Introduction

Good day, everyone! How's your recent ranked battles? Good? Bad? Meh? I am here again to share one of my amazing battles in Modern Format. My deck is currently configured for Silver League but this gameplay happened in Gold League because would like to try and also familiarize myself of the gameplays in Gold league. This post will feature one of my favorite cards in Death Element - RIFTWING! The battle lasted until Round 10 and it's a one-on-one battle between my Level 5 Riftwing and the opponent's Level 4 Tenyii Striker. Want to find out who won? And how the tides of the battle led to this head-on battle or should I say Evasion and Miss Chance gameplay? Let's check it out.

Here is a quick rundown of Riftwing stats.

RIFTWING
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: NORMAL
Element: DEATH
Attack: NONE
Abilities: FLYING, SCAVENGER AT LVL 1, BACKFIRE AT LVL 5, HEADWINDS AT LVL 8

LORE
Riftwings are drawn to splinters and rifts. They feed off their energy and grow larger the closer they live to a portal. The Chaos Legion uses them as a means to locate rifts. In war, they are utilized as scouts, providing valuable information and as a way to harass/distract enemy forces, thereby slowing them down...

Abilities at Level 5
AbilityDescription
FLYING - When a monster with the Flying ability is being targeted, the attacking monster's attack accuracy is reduced by 25%.
SCAVENGER - Gains 1 max health each time any monster die.
BACKFIRE - If an enemy misses this Monster with an attack, the attacker takes 2 damage.

Battle Configuration

The Modern Format ruleset for this fight are Stampede wherein the Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled Monster is killed and Taking Sides wherein Neutral Monsters may not be used in battles. The maximum amount of mana allowed is 26. The available elements are Fire, Earth, Life, Death and Dragon. I did not focus on the ruleset in this game but on the configuration and mana cap of the battle.

I used Thaddius Brood to decrease the HP and Magic Attack of the enemy monsters. My tank here or my monster in the first position is Cursed Windeku with its Thorns ability. I then used Silent Sha-vi as my back-line attacker. I placed my Riftwing in the middle so that it will not be targeted first. I then used Dhampir Stalker with its high Ranged Attack of 4. And lastly, I used Corpse Fiend to act as a shield from enemy back-line attackers.

Let's Battle!

I used this battle configuration because as per enemy's previous battles, enemy will not use Magic Attack monsters. The idea here is to increase my Riftwing's HP as much as possible and for the enemy to miss its attack and suffer from Backfire damage. That is the reason why I used Thaddius Brood mainly because of the -1 HP debuff. Cursed Windeku's Thorns will also inflict additional damage to enemy melee monsters and my main attackers, Silent Sha-vi and Dhampir Stalker will deal the majority of the damage to the enemy. Corpse Fiend here has two purpose - to act as shield for back-line attackers and easily feed its corpse to Riftwing.

The battle started with my Silent Sha-vi attacked the enemy Scorch Fiend and this gave Riftwing an additional of 1 HP.

The enemy Lava Spider then attacked Riftwing using its Snipe Ability, however, its attack missed and received 2 damage from Riftwing's Backfire ability.

My Corpse Fiend was then killed by the enemy Tenyii Striker and gave Riftwing an additional of 1 HP.
image.png

In Round 2, my attack also missed. Silent Sha-vi's attack to Tenyii Striker missed because Tenyii Striker has the Dodge ability wherein when a monster with the Dodge ability is being targeted, the attacking monster's attack accuracy is reduced by 25%.
image.png

Also in Round 2, my Cursed Windeku was defeated while enemy Living Lava was still standing. Riftwing fed again and increased its HP by 1.
image.png

By the end of Round 3, Living Lava and Radiated Brute were defeated and this also increased Riftwing's HP by 2.
image.png

In Round 4, Riftwing took a hit from Tenyii Striker.
image.png

And by the time that the battle reached Round 7, only Riftwing and Tenyii Striker remained. Riftwing with Flying and Backfire ability that survived by feeding from the corpse and Tenyii's Striker's 4 Meelee Damage and Dodge ability will battle head-on.
image.png

Because Riftwing has no Attack Power, Tenyii Striker took the first strike, however, it missed and received Backfire damage.
image.png

Tenyii Striker attacked again and was able to land a blow, inflicting 4 damage to Riftwing.
image.png

Tenyii Striker's attack did not miss again and was able to reduce Riftwing's HP to 1 already.
image.png

However, in Round 10, Tenyii Striker's attack missed again and received 2 damage from Backfire causing Tenyii Striker to be defeated.
image.png

Riftwing led me to victory and I received 14,285 Reward Points and 0.275 SPS in this battle. And my rating increased by 46.

Did my strategy work?

The plan to concentrate this battle configuration to Riftwing worked. Even though I almost lost, this battle is quite nerve wrecking because I thought I will lose. I guess I got lucky? Or perhaps, the configuration worked well to support Riftwing. Good thing that the enemy also has monsters with small HP and were easily killed and supplied HP to my Riftwing. My favorite part of the battle is everytime the opponent's attack missed and will suffer from Backfire damage. It's quite cool to win without attacking sometimes. And this is why Riftwing is one of my favorite cards in Chaos Legion.

Here is another battle with Riftwing. This time, the ruleset has Noxius Fumes wherein All Monsters start the battle Poisoned. The poison helped Riftwing's HP to grow because the enemy monsters have low HP to begin with and will die eventually poison.
