Splinterlands Newbie Guide: Bronze League Epic Summoners

Introduction

Hello everyone! Lester here and this week I will share my experience about Epic Summoners in Bronze League. When you were just starting to play Splinterlands, have you ever encountered a battle wherein the opponent used a Level 3 Rare Monster Unit in Bronze League and asked yourself, is it a bug? Is it a match-making error? I have been playing since August 2021 and just until January 2022, I realized that what I know about the Level Limit for Bronze League is not correct. I initially thought that the Monster Level Limit in Bronze League is the same with Summoner Level Limit. I have been also seeing several questions and posts in Facebook why they are not able use their Monster Units in battle.

In Bronze League, your Summoners Level will be limited to: Common - 3; Rare - 2; Epic - 2; and Legendary - 1. And so I thought that I can only use Monster Unit up to Level 3 for Common, 2 for Rare, 2 for Epic, and 1 for Legendary. It is quite correct for Common, Rare and Legendary Summoners. The Monster Level Limit that they can summon is the same with their Rarity.

Delwyn Dragonscale is a Summoner with a Rarity of Common and at Level 3 it can summon Monster units up to Common - 3; Rare - 2; Epic - 2; and Legendary - 1.

Zintar Mortalis is a Summoner with a Rarity of Rare and at Level 2, it can summon Monster units up to Common - 3; Rare - 2; Epic - 2; and Legendary - 1.

Plado Emberstorm is a Summoner with a Rarity of Legendary and at Level 1, it can summon Monster units up to Common - 3; Rare - 2; Epic - 2; and Legendary - 1.

However, Epic Summoners are different. At Level 2, they can summon Monster units up to Common - 3; Rare - 3 ; Epic - 2; and Legendary - 1.

Kiara Ligbringer can summon a Level 3 Rare Monster unit. The same goes with the other Summoners with a Rarity of Epic.

How can I use this at my advantage?

Let us now discuss the advantage of using Rare Monster Units at Level 3 in Bronze League.

Fire Element

Our Epic Summoner from Fire Element is Talia Firestorm that needs only 2 Mana Cost to use. However, it has no buff, de-buff or ability.

Here is the comparison of some of the Monster Units that I previously rented at Level 2 versus Level 3 from the Fire Element available in the market.

Notice that the Melee Attack of both monsters increased by 1 at Level 3.

Water Element


Our Epic Summoner from Water Element is Xia Seachan that needs only 2 Mana Cost to use. Also, it has no buff, de-buff or ability.

Here is the comparison of some of the Monster Units that I previously rented at Level 2 versus Level 3 from the Water Element available in the market.

Here are the monsters that did not have an increase on their stats but a new ability was obtained upon reaching Level 3. These abilities are quite useful especially Kelp Initiate's Cleanse because aside from the ability, it only costs 2 Mana.

Earth Element

Our Epic Summoner from Earth Element is Xander Foxwood that needs only 2 Mana Cost to use. Also, it has no buff, de-buff or ability.

Here is the comparison of some of the Monster Units that I previously rented at Level 2 versus Level 3 from the Earth Element available in the market.

The Melee Attack of both monsters increased by 1 after reaching Level 3. And Stone Golem's Armor increased by 1.

Life Element

Our Epic Summoner from Earth Element is Kiara Lightbringer that needs only 2 Mana Cost to use. Also, it has no buff, de-buff or ability.

Here is the comparison of some of the Monster Units that I previously rented at Level 2 versus Level 3 from the Life Element available in the market.

The Melee Attack of both monsters increased by 1 after reaching Level 3. This is quite very useful when you are a Life Element user. Silvershield Assassin attacks twice and can deliver 4 Melee Damage at Level 3 compared to 2 Melee Damage at Level 2.

Death Element

Our Epic Summoner from Earth Element is Jarlax The Undead that needs only 2 Mana Cost to use. Also, it has no buff, de-buff or ability.

Here is the comparison of some of the Monster Units that I previously rented at Level 2 versus Level 3 from the Death Element available in the market.

The Melee Attack of Haunted Spirit increased by 1 after reaching Level 3. And Undead Priest gain 1 Magic Attack at Level 3, which add fire power to your line up aside from its Weaken ability.

Dragon Element

We have 2 Epic Summoners from Dragon Element, Kretch Talevor and Daria Dragonscale. Daria Dragonscale is the only Epic Summoner that buffs allied monsters, but it costs 4 Mana to use.

Here is the comparison of some of the Monster Units that I previously rented at Level 2 versus Level 3 from the Dragon Element available in the market.

The Melee Attack of Gloridax Soldier increased by 1 after reaching Level 3. And the HP of Twilight Basilisk increased by 1.

Pros and Cons

In general, the stats and ability of each monster increases upon reaching Level 3 and can be at advantage to your line up. But there are Pros and Cons in using Epic Summoners.

Pros

Epic Summoners except for Kretch Talevor and Daria Dragonscale are very useful when the Ruleset is Silenced Summoner wherein Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities. And the mana cost of these summoners are quite cheap compared to others. So aside from having a low mana cost and if the Ruleset is Silenced Summoner, you can still use the full potential of your Rare Monster units.

Cons

In a normal set up/ruleset, you might not want to use these Epic Summoners except for Daria Dragonscale because they do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities.
