Hello everybody! My name is Fernando, I am new here to Splinterlands, and have found that the blogging community is very great. Spanish is my first language but I will be doing my best to write this in English for everybody to really enjoy it. Please keep in mind I am not so experienced player but I have looked many videos and try to learn how to use properly cards.

So far, however, I am free to play so I will not have access to Spineback Turtle card. I do my best to find card that is also similar to Turtle, so I use Tortisian Fighter. It is also frontline card!!

Please Permit me to use Tortisian Fighter for this!

So let's do our best and look at this card right away with the art.

image.png

This reminds me little bit of my uncle when he would go to fishing. Of course, he is not a Tortisian, but he would wear a big basket on his back, so if you really look from far away, his pants were so similar to this. His hat that he wear was different, yes, but anyway, he did not like hats very much. Sorry to change the topic, let's look again carefully at Tortisian Fighter. It is clear that he is very dedicated because his expression is so serious. I love to see the card art in large format, it is nicer than just the card, but of course we also will show the card next after this. I have to say also his biceps is very big. The spear is perhaps simple. I think could use a better spear. He is very strong and can handle more length on it.

The color scheme of the art is so perfect for the color scheme of Water Splinters card in Untamed. Really nice combination! Thank you that this card looks like it really belongs in a Water splinter!! Got this picture from website Splintercards.

Actually I used the card and think its pretty good! Of course I am sad to not be able to use the card Spineback Turtle. In some way I feel that it is kind of a blessing, because otherwise I think I will have never used Tortisian Fighter because it looks like a simple card to me as a new player, of not that much use. I wonder what it's worth? Let's check....

NOTE: I have access the Marketplace in Peakmonsters.com for this information. Let's look at investing this card:

First of all, the card value in the current market is necessary to keep track of because this is a very important consideration if you want to utilize this card, or, of course you can rent it. We will talk about purchase first. The base price of this card at Low Card (this means the lowest card that is currently listed for sale, regardless of its level or BCX) is at this moment exactly $0.410 USD which is not a very large amount of money for a card of Untamed Edition (which is no longer printing). If we look at the price of BCX (the lowest price for a BCX of this card, which I will explain below), then the current price is actually the same, at $0.410, which means you will not really get a discount for buying at a higher level at all. That's too bad. Currently the highest bid (person willing to buy the card) is given at $0.264. According to Peakmonsters, this puts the market value at $0.410 USD as well.

It took me some time to figure it out, but I will explain some financial concept for players who are new like me:

Low price: This simply means it is the lowest price that somebody is selling the card. It can be just one or many, does not matter.

Low BCX: BCX means "Base Card eXperience", so it shows exactly how many cards of the same card have been combined to create this amount BCX of the card. This will not be so important for new players, but if you wish to play at a higher level it will become something to pay attention to so don't forget!

High Bid: In Peakmonsters website, anybody can place a Bid for a card in a price that they choose. This represents how much you are willing to pay for that card. If somebody wants to sell it in a hurry rather than listing it, they can sell to the highest Bid price. So it is like the opposite side of Low Price listing.

Market Value: This is a combination of how many cards sold, both single and BCX, and the bid offer, for Peakmonster to give a basic how much is the value of this card estimation.

Enough talk about all this money stuff. It is time to show my experience of using this card this week and spoiler alert: It was good.

Please click this link if you wish to do so, then you can see the battle in Action: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_888a14d2d09818c6685f37b3d83967ff&ref=splinterfan2022

I have not talked about Tortisian Fighter stats yet but will do so afterward. Be patient please! First we talk about the battle!

Here is FULL VIEW of the battle once it started:

image.png

I am the bottom one, using new Water Summoner, and top one is my opponent who uses the new Fire Summoner.

As you can see, Tortisian Fighter is right in the front!

image.png

Time to explain my choices, but please remember I'm still learning and my advice is not always great. I try to do my best!

At the front position I will like to use a tank role, somebody that can be resistant to taking damage, and also doing melee damage since it is the front row. For this purpose, I have used Tortisian Fighter! He will do one melee damage but also will have not just three health but even have one armor. The armor must first be broken before he can take damage to his health. Though, there is one exception: Magic type damage can ignore the armor. Be careful! Lucky for me this time there was no magic type.

At the second position, I put what I have seen is a very very strong card. The Flying Squid has a tremendous amount of health and also has two attack. Other than the attack, also notice that he has three speed, which is pretty good. Right now, he can attack even from the second position, because he is using the skill called Reach. Just like it sounds, he can reach over from second position and still attack. Normally melee can't do this! He has many tentacles so it makes sense to me.

From the third position, I will have placed Deeplurker. This is a card which has THREE attack, the most so far, as well as two speed and six health. There is no armor, but that's OK, he is not to be a tank. His special power is to use Opportunity. That means he can attack from any position, even if he is melee, and he will focus whichever opponent monster that has the lowest health at the moment. Very useful card to use I think.

From last position, I have put this card here just to defend against opponents using Sneak (attacks last card). Hardy Stonefish has one attack, one health, one speed, and one armor. Maybe he can take two hits just in case, thanks to the armor. It is not much to be said about this card, it is only there for safety, to protect Deeplurker against sneak cards like Tenyii Striker!

Finally the Summoner: Kelya Frendul. Kelya costs 4 mana, more than some other, but it's worth it because ALL your cards will get +1 additional speed and also +1 additional armor. This will be VERY useful against any teams that are not using magic. I'm happy to choose this summoner, but if playing against a team of magic, I will prefer Bortus (by the way, he is also a tortisian!).

I hope you watch the battle so you can see it was very very close. I was really tense until the end. Here is the result:

I am also interested in what was my opponent's choices. Let's see:

At the front position he decided to use Antoid Platoon. this is actually a strong choice for frontline, at least I think so. The reason is you only are spending a little bit of mana, four in total, but for this you are getting a tough card to kill. He has three health, maybe not so much, but also two armor on top of this. If we look up what the ability is that he has, it is called Shield actually, and it cuts into half the damage it takes from any source that is not magic. That is a big deal! In fact, in the battle you can see my cards were only doing 1 damage instead of two. Did you know that if your card does just 1 damage, it will actually do no damage to him at all? Smart choice for him.

At the second position, putting this Radiated Scorcher that has one attack, two speed, and 2 health. This card is not having Reach at all, so it can't even attack here. Why did he do this? I can't understand it. However, the card is only costing one mana, so it is not so bad even if it doesn't do much.

At the third position is the most dangerous here, Tenyii Striker! This is having two attack, two speed, and six health, but most important it has the Sneak ability. This means he will actually attack the BACK card of my side first. Thankfully, I put the Hardy Stonefish there. If not, maybe he will have killed Deeplurker, which could cause me to lose this whole battle. This is a strong card! I will also be using it in Fire Splinter.

At the fourth, he will put Scavo Chemist. This really... not a useful card. We look up to see that cleanse ability takes away status effect. Why does it matter? Maybe if there is something, like poison. I think this was a bad choice... maybe in comments somebody explain to me why he put this.

At the fifth, let's check out Xenith Archer. It is doing one ranged attack damage, one speed, and two health. Thankfully, for these low stats, it will only cost two mana. That really is not so much. It is a reasonable choice I believe.

Finally, we look at Scavo Firebolt in the last position. This one actually has two attack, which is way more, as well as two speed and even four health. This is quite useful card I think. It will cost four mana but it is worth it. I think it is a good choice for him. In fact, it was quite powerful in this fight.

Summoner he has used Tarsa. This is a very strong summoner that gives all of melee cards another one more damage, and all cards, melee or not, will all get one extra health. Because of this choice, even three of his cards have gotten one extra damage in this fight. It was worth choosing.

image.png

image.png

How do I think about Tortisian Fighter? I am happy with this card. I think it costs only four mana and does a nice job for this. I wonder if it is better than Spineback Turtle? I won't be able to find out, but maybe if you are reading this, put a comment telling me what you think is a better choice! I will be curious to know, since I am always continuing to learn about it.
