Warner Music Group Partnership Announcement!

WARNER MUSIC GROUP PARTNERS WITH CHIEF BLOCKCHAIN GAMING DEVELOPER SPLINTERLANDS

Splinterlands today announced that they have entered into a partnership with Warner Music Group (WMG). The first-of-its-kind deal will see the companies collaborate to give select WMG artists opportunities to create and develop unique, play-to-earn, arcade-style blockchain games in a mutually beneficial partnership for music fans and splinterlands players alike. Splinterlands currently operates the world’s most popular blockchain game dapp (decentralized app), called Splinterlands.

Oana Ruxandra, Chief Digital Officer & EVP, Business Development, WMG said: “I don’t think we can underestimate how massive the opportunity around P2E gaming is. By partnering with Splinterlands to build custom tokenized games, we’ll unlock new revenue streams for our artists who have an interest in the space while elevating the role of fandom and community. As the Web3 ecosystem continues to evolve, WMG is committed to making sure music is front-and-center.”

Jesse "Aggroed” Reich, Splinterlands Co-Founder and CEO said: “Warner Music Group is a leader in the music industry. They are innovating the music industry to meet the standards set by Web 3.0 community members. We're thrilled to be working with them and I look forward to new collaborations at the intersection of gaming, music, crypto, NFTs, defi, and blockchain."

By leaning into arcade-style gaming, Splinterlands and WMG will produce mobile-friendly, accessible games that can facilitate wider adoption and foster community building more easily than traditional play-to-earn games.

A key piece to the future of both gaming and crypto, blockchain games are rapidly increasing in popularity, currently making up half of the entire blockchain industry’s usage according to DappRadar. Designed with the aim to bring power back to the players, play-to-earn games specifically tap into blockchain technology to give players rewards, such as NFTs, that hold real-world value. Players can trade, sell, or lease anything they earn in-game.

Splinterlands was founded in 2018. The company’s fantasy-themed collectible card game, Splinterlands currently boasts 1.8M registered users, 450,000 daily users, and recently passed a historic one billion battle milestone. A community experience, Splinterlands is developed and grown with players’ input and guidance in mind.

A note for the Splinterlands community - This new partnership will not take away from or add any latency to the Splinterlands’ roadmapped releases. Part of this partnership will include building a new team to lead the development of this new game.

This is really great news for steem monsters inc, but how will it directly benefit splinterlands?

Exactly my question. Does this impact any splinterland NFT assets at all? I hope there will be some synergy between the two separate projects but that hasn't really been addressed.

Possiblities
(1) SPS governance token for all games
(2) New games implement our SPL NFT's in game play

i would find it quite scandalous if they did not use the sps token for the new games!

I feel like the statement is saying games, not one game, more like a framework that can be used to build upon, although I have no clue how that will work exactly, hopefully tonight's AMA will give more clarity. In any case it is crazy news.

That would be very interesting.

At least there will be lots of free marketing for games.

  • marketing leads to more users
  • more buyers & demand
  • higher NFT prices :)

I think the Splinterlands Devs are on the right track. As to what track that is, I think they're seeking to be like of Riot's type of business, the main creator of League of Legends. Why do I make this comparison?

Before League, there was DOTA Defense of the Ancients map that was made for Warcraft 3. This is the start of Team MOBA games like League and DOTA 2. Warcraft's creator is Blizzard which is now on downfall while Riot, creator of League of Legends is on the rise. Riot's goal is to make multi-games surrounding around one universe/lore. Imagine MCU. Currently, they have League of Legends (MOBA), Legends of Runeterra (Card Game), two other games that I haven't played yet, Arcane (An anime), K/DA (Music video), and on the production, an MMORPG based on Arcane's Zaun city which is based on League of Legends Lore.

TLDR: Splinterlands is making its expansion on their games and probably tie it off with SPS. Meaning each game may have different coins but have one general coin, the SPS, and probably VOUCHER for limited contents. Does this kill Splinterlands? No. On the contrary, I think it improves it because people who might hear of the waka project (just calling the game that), may now search for Splinterlands and if they're card games nerd like me, they might transfer from the Waka Project to Splinterlands just like how I transferred from League of Legends to Legends of Runeterra.

A boom in the developers is a success in all their games overall is my TLDR.

Congratulations, that sounds like a great deal!
but i had first understood that an arcade game will be integrated into splinterlands which belongs to splinterlands and the theme, now it sounds like seperate games are being developed? is my english too bad or can someone enlighten me exactly?

Your English is fine! I was wondering the exact same thing. It is not clear if these are:

  • New games on any blockchain (not sure what the upside is for Splinterlands here)
  • New games on Hive (Splinterlands gets indirect benefit)
  • Newish games on Splinterlands.com (Obvious upside for Splinterlands)

WMG is a massive organization, many many times the size of Splinterlands. I can't imagine that it's Splinterlands who is dictating any terms here.

If I had to guess, the Waka Flocka thing was probably arranged as a pilot program through WMG. Waka's label is part of their group. The partnership has probably been in the works for a while, and Splinterlands could only announce after the Waka thing went live. If this sale for the Waka card generates revenue for WMG (or at least proves traction), then the partnership will likely get more attention and funding.

really good questions which I hope will soon be answered!

But even just the exposure to WMG will send everything splinterlands related (DEC/SPS) flying for the next days. But hope this will also lead to a more long term sustainable benefits

exposure to WMG will send everything splinterlands related (DEC/SPS) flying for the next days

That'd be cool! I dunno if it's enough to counter the overall market downturns in response to shaky geopolitical stuff though. I expect the Waka Flocka sale (starts tomorrow!) to do more for VOUCHER and SPS prices than this announcement.

Another material partnership (vs an announcement with vague details) will probably do more!

Will this new venture continue to use Hive as the main backend for these new products?

0

Listening to the Town Hall now. The answer is: not necessarily.

They general view is that the underlying chain tech is not a big focus for WMG or even Splinterlands in the future. The same way that most users don't care if their web2 stuff runs on Azure or AWS, end users of web3 stuff won't want to worry too much about what core chain runs a game.

Splinterlands itself envisions a world where their assets (e.g. SPS, Cards) can exist on many chains. Sure, the core game runs on Hive, but most users won't need to know that.

While this might not be the news that folks who are highly invested in Hive want to hear, there should still be indirect benefits for the Hive ecosystem from this partnership. I can think of a few but it's up for debate and kind of a different discussion.

..there should still be indirect benefits for the Hive ecosystem from this partnership.

100%. For starters, it's indirect marketing for Hive. Big media outlets are mentioning us all over the place. We should pump this news even more on social media. That's how we can benefit from it.

totally agree, not all the end-users need to be blockchain-nerds to get the game; the end-user experience mostly comes from the usability, not from the underlaying tech.

0

avatar

This mentality is mission critical for the wider adoption of web3. No way around it. But it does create an interesting situation where some users (the blockchain nerds) may have a serious usability and financial advantage over the regular user.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing on the whole? Who knows!

This is still probably true for web2 (software engineers can leverage web2 stuff waaaaay better than, like, Grandma), so we have something of a precedent to analyze. Fascinating stuff, all of it :D

Nice.....

Great job with securing the partinership with Warner Music. Will these new games be created under the Splinterlands universe where SPS is governance token for all games?

Wondering exactly that - Please say "YES"

Is there any way for us as investors to get involved or ready for the new game?

0

My question is whether any Splinterlands asset will gain additional use cases due to this partnership. Will SPS be of any use in the new product? Vouchers? Lands? Cards? If it's an entirely new product then it doesn't really mean much to current Splinterlands users, players, investors, etc.

0

Because of the value Splinterlands has added to our portfolios, we'll probably be able to afford to invest in these new games as well. That's one way of looking at it, I suppose. I do hope that some of the investments I've already made will be useful in the new games, for sure.

here's something to consider - blockchain technology is about disintermediation and a company like Warners is all about being the intermediary....

Wow. I'm speechless. I'm just impressed with Splinterlands ability to keep pushing outward. I only wish it helped with more activity on hive.blog, peakd and eccency etc. but I'm not complaining. I'm confused though, aren't their artists mostly musicians? So what kind of games are musicians making? Do they have plans to help artists make games with their music as soundtracks?

Curious to see how this plays out and if it will help Splinterlands grow or this is just a side business for Splinterlands (the company) with the partnership that only benefits Warner more? This is very good news regardless for the space.

That's great news for the company.
Can't wait to hear more details on the partnership and see where it is leading.

My only hope is that any future projects are built onto the hive blockchain and if sps is involved then even better. 🤞

Why is this a Splinterlands announcement? It's not even a Hive topic. Bummed at this not having any correlation. Good for the developers (whoopty do) but what does this have to do with us or Splinterlands? Kind of disappointing actually. Almost feels like they are jumping ship. Warner is probably not the most innocent company to partner with. They can destroy Splinterlands. Look at what Disney did to Starwars and Game of Thrones. Feeling moot af.

I made post earlier about the partnership because just seeing splinterlands took me on a flight.
I just didn't know @aggroed was on hive until I saw a tweet on tweeter.

One thing exactly on my mind is the impact it would serve for hive ecosystem...

Congratulations on this milestone.
