My Journey With Splinterlands From Alpha To Now

First let me say I'm going to attempt to do a much better job at not only writing Splinterlands style content but also to promote it much more. That's mainly because one of my best assets and time spent in crypto and in particular hive has been playing, interacting and building my Splinterlands assets.

One of the cool things about Splinterlands is that they run occasional challenges. These challenges have a theme and this one posted by the Splinterlands team is to share your journey.

That post by @splinterlands can be found here Splinterlands Share Your Journey Challenge I'm actully cutting it super close to when this needs to be posted by!

How Did You Discover Splinterlands?

I discovered Splinterlands when it was called steemmonsters and ran on the steem blockchain back in May of 2018. Proof on the profile

I discovered it from just general blogging on that platform which honestly was most likely sheer luck at the time.

My Time Spent In Splinterlands

I invested pretty well back then on the Alpha packs getting pretty close to a max Alpha deck. It wasn't until Beta rolled around that I decided to really go all in maxing out beta decks left and right including being able to take part in the kick starter and creating my own summoner. This is him...

He currently spends his days working an occupied plot of land to harvest SPS.

poor little guy...

From there I played the game heavily while working and starting up my own business. I even at one point got reached out by the team to invest into the game and I was very temped and honestly should have but the timing was just a few months off for me.

Instead I invested as I could through building assets and that worked out rather well for me. I admit I stopped playing and stopped investing much time into the game when the whole steem / hive mess happened. Like I said I was occupied with my own business startup at the time and I pretty much wrote it off as a loss (mainly due to so many crap projects that came out during the bull run of 2019 it was a very rough 2 years for crypto and so many projects going belly up.)

It wasn't until I'd say late 2019 to early 202 that I returned back after taking time to learn what happened and what state we were in and started to spend time on rebuilding everything again. Should I have stayed more active? Sure but hindsight is a b lol

From there I invested heavily again in both time playing the game and a decent amount of money again to build out decks that I had missed out on in my time off. The next bull market kicked in and I quickly saw my assets increase to nearly 1 million bucks which totally blew my socks off. I sold some, but kept a lot mainly because I was so hooked on land releasing. That simple $1,700 land invested back in the day quickly turned into roughly $150,000+ Should I have sold some then? Sure at the moment that seems like it would have been best but we aren't into the next bull run here yet! Plus I wanted to continue to support the team, promote the game and play the game.

Today those assets are still worth a decent chunk of money. In fact as crazy as this might sound I think Splinterlands assets actully held up far better than the rest of the market over the last two years.

Accomplishments

I'd say my biggest accomplishments of the game are hitting and staying in Champions for a good while. Outside of that my commitment to buy at least a tract plot of land (100 plots plus a keep) which I currently am building out.

Future Goals and Accomplishments

There's two big primary goals I have at the moment and they will take me some time. I'm hoping to be able to crush both this year.

The first being at least 1 million SPS staked. It's a goal I've had from the very start of when SPS was released and I believe I'll get there. I'm currently at the half way mark so there's for sure a hard push that's going to have to start happening.

The second is to build up all of my plots of land all 142 of them. I may "rent" or sell some plots at a later time but at the moment it just seems silly unless someone comes in pretty over priced compared to what's on the open market.

Advice To New Players

Honestly I'd say rent some cards out. The rental market is awesome and you can start playing the game for pennies. Get yourself some rented SPS as well as it's dirt cheap at the moment. With a few bucks (Like the cost of a normal game $50) You should be able to find yourself doing battles, winning cards and SPS. Also if you have some extra funds you want to drop in land could be an option for you as well. You should be able to produce a decent plot of land (of grain only) for roughly $100-$150. I'd recommend however getting at least 2-5 in the same area if you can to really make something of it. New resources coming online are going to be a big factor and being self sufficient with your grain I feel is going to be important later down the road.

I'd also say hang out and chat with others, watch some videos and live streams of other players to learn the strats but more importantly just have fun with it. The games actully pretty awesome and fun and it's only expanding and growing.
