Splinterlands Battle Challenge - Centauri Mage
Introduction
Hello Splinters, welcome to this week's challenge battle.
This week we're going to talk about Centauri Mage. An earth splinter card, from the last bounty edition, with a cost of 7 mana, magic damage and up to 2 abilities depending on your level.
Lore
The magic of the Centauri people of northern Anumün is so secretive that it is a wonder their Mages make any demonstrations of their powers in the Mount Mox Arena at all. The audiences are always thrilled to see their magic attacks, especially at dusk and sunset, when they create a chillingly beautiful (and deadly) green light show. Not only does this magic rain green fire onto the enemy, but with proper concentration from the Mage, it also refortifies the defenses of the friendly team. Among the Centaurs, those who practice these ancient ways of magic are extremely rare. They spend most of their time close to Kron, protecting him from all the wild creatures outside his Citadel.

Stats
I think this card is nice on certain occasions, mainly because of the Return Fire (Zaku take care). But it's usually very expensive, so I'm not used to using it.
Cards used
As my opponent used the water splinter in all of the last 5 battles and attacked with magic, I figured he would do the same in that fight. Then...
I used this summoner because lately it's been the biggest counter possible for Venari Wavesmith, so if she was on the other side and I hadn't used that card, the chance of my losing was high.
I was relying on the use of magic, so I needed to try to eliminate some card with 1 life
So you can see how I was betting all the chips that the opponent would use magic. I even put on the Unicorn Mustang.
This would be my variation if he didn't use magic, and decided to put in some ranged attack.
In addition to the damage, it would be very important for me to be able to heal Mustang and Centauri.
I like to attack the opponent's backline, as it is not a habit that it will be protected.
The Battle
I'll leave some prints of the battle, you can see it in full here.
Questions
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
My strategy of mounting a composition against magic damage worked, the opponent went with magic damage and ended up being punished for it. I really liked my choice.
Do you use the Centauri Mage often? Why or why not?
It's hard to say if it was a good choice for this battle or not, I still think this card is very situational and won't always be the best choice. But with it, it was possible to always guarantee +1 damage in Serpent Of Eld, which is usually very difficult to hit.
