My Splinterlands Progress Update & Tiered Game Plan - Deeper Into Praetoria I Go

(Edited)

For entertainment value and my future tracking, here's a snapshot of where I'm at today on my Splinterlands mission.

Overall Stats:

  • Spellbook Bought: 8/30/21
  • Prior Experience: 1 Beta pack opened in 2019 after winning a contest
  • Collection Power Owned: 29,770
  • Card Value Snapshot: $ 951.89 using List Prices // $ 882.98 using Market Prices
  • Land Plots: 2
  • Pre-Sale Chaos Legion Packs: 141
  • Vouchers Earned: 0
  • Vouchers Bought: 131
  • Non-Airdrop/Voucher Chaos Legion Packs: 11?
  • Current Level: Silver III
  • Guild: Conquests of Kibandia
  • Most Valuable Cards (don't laugh):

I bought the Tarsa and one River to level up, the rest came from packs.

Favorite Owned Cards:

  • L2 Mage Necrosi (camouflage is AWESOME).
  • Gold old Djinn Osheanus got me through the bronze age.
  • L2 River Hellondale, Gold Venari Wavesmith, Gold Cursed Windeku
  • Future favorite card will be Forgotten One once I activate Retaliate.

Favorite Splinters & Rosters:

Least Played Splinter:

  • Dragon - although I should start learning how to use my Chaos Dragon and Zyvax Vuul (cool name).
  • I literally almost never play this one.

Recent Lessons From Chaos Legion/Silver League:

  • Demoralize can be really valuable.
  • Cleanse/Immunity are much more necessary than before.
  • Recharge, Ressurect, and Camouflage are new abilities to me, and I'm a big fan.
  • The Silent Sha-Vi is VERY annoying to deal with, but fun to use (double-standard).
  • Ressurecting Venari Wavesmith refreshes all shields on the team to the original 2.

Short-Term Goals:

  • 9 more pre-sale packs to reach a 50% drop rate for the next two airdrop cards.
  • Buy a few Legendary cards to level them up.
  • Stop forgetting that I have newly acquired 0 mana Fiends and actually use them!

I don't know if I'll hit the first goal since my post payouts may not come in time to cover packs and vouchers, but it'll be close. I want that "coin flip" 50% chance of these upcoming airdrop cards, but also really don't want to go through the extensive process of buying Hive again for such a small transaction.

Medium-Term Goals:

  • 149 more packs total to have full ongoing airdrop benefits for card drops.
  • 3 more land plots.
  • Get Alric to level 2 or my first Valnamor.
  • 50,000 Collection Power.
  • Buy 250+ Chaos Legion packs to hold for airdrop rewards and as a future investment.
  • Turn liquid blog payout funds into SPS since it's a huge pain to buy Hive on a regular basis due to my exchange restrictions unless devs want to level Hive up and build more onramps.

Long-Term Goals:

  • Stay engaged in the game and community.
  • Help build up the new guild I'm in when I have the clout to meaningfully contribute.
  • Onboard friends I can delegate cards to and teach.
  • Find a way to get involved with the Splinterlands team over time. (Lots of marketing, sales, and project management from my past life.)

Review:

I think this above is simple enough since I'm approaching 6 months into this. I still have plenty to learn and have enough time and funds invested now to make effective progress. I really don't want to feel pressure while growing my account as I'm already light years behind the OGs. I had no airdrop help as well. Ground floor. While I'm extremely competitive, I know that this can't be a race and that I'm not going to be a professional gamer. I just want to have fun and compete against friends once I get into their tier. If I make some passive income off of my investment as a bonus, or some profit if asset prices soar, then that's all a plus.

Battling in Silver III is pretty easy now that I have stronger cards from my pack purchases. While I'm definitely well in the red on that phase, especially since I had no airdropped vouchers, it's good that I can enjoy the battles more. I never knew that there'd be multiple conditions or higher mana allowed (how green), so it's a lot more engaging and suited for my way of thinking. I don't want to advance too fast and get my ass kicked, so I'll hover here for a bit until my future cards force me to level up. Getting two daily quest chests was also a nice surprise.

Am I missing any critical elements in this simple plan? I'm still new, so please share any guidance if there's a hole in my plan, or if I'm putting too much emphasis on something that's not too important.

Bonus:

Early card delegations from @joshman, @ninjamike and @blewitt really helped me learn more about the game and battle early on. @blewitt has also coached me on building up my holdings, so he gets lots of credit and/or blame depending on how this all goes. @aussieninja also wins the award for the most valuable feedback on my posts. Hopefully he qualifies to help design his own card in the future, the Mighty Ninja Jumper (double strike, dodge, inspire, and +2 speed).

Thank you,
@steemmatt

OMG, what an incredible card the Mighty Ninja Jumper will be!!

To help you with Short Term Goal #3, have you considered sorting your cards in the battle screen to Lowest Mana? This is how I've had it sorted for ages, which means the 0 mana cards are always the first ones... and it makes scrolling through much easier because the low mana cards are at the top, and the high mana cards are at the bottom... so if it's a low mana battle I'm already looking at the cards I need... and if it's a high mana battle I scroll down to the bottom.

It's the Sorting drop down in the top right hand corner.

Totally agree that you've got to get yourself a low-mana Dragon summoner. I use Camila all the time and it gives you so many more options to play with.

Thanks. I should do the sorting, have tried, but somehow am used to whatever default I originally had. I'll try to make it a habit because you're up there and know what you're doing. Can I just have your login?

That's fair, that sort of change is really hard to get used to, especially when you've only got 2 minutes to figure out a team.

Yeah nah, I don't trust you not to sell all my cards, buy the world's best drum kit, start a band, start touring the globe laying down the world's most explosive sets, becoming the most famous band to have ever lived and then forgetting all about me. I'm only thinking of us by not giving you my login.

It might be pretty expensive to get Alric leveled up. You might wanna focus on the new summoners in CL.

Keep on grinding!

I know. I think he'll be removed from the new Chaos Legion Format too to be only worthwhile in Wild Format, right? Right after my post, I bought 2 Djinn Oshannus for under $9 each to get him to L2, but him and River are trapped in L1 for a while with my summoners not being able to play them. After buying him for $8 and $52 in the past, I had to. I also bought Harklaw for $5.45 and Djinn Biljka for $5 to grab the discount assuming I won't get them as rewards, and for the CP.

That's right Alric will be wild.
I'm trying to build up my CL cards so I can play in modern format but right now I'm only around silver.

Let me know if I can help you out in any way by delegating a few cards to you. Whether it's for CP or a card you need for a splinter. Happy to help if I can.

Thanks! Wow you have quite a collection from the early days onward and that'll be huge in the future. Did you earn most of those or shell out for packs during prior editions?

I'm in Silver 3 right now with my 33,125 CP owned keeping me there. It was a breeze to get over 2,100 Rating even against stronger summoners/cards. I think I'm getting the knack of things (especially the new CL cards I got), but I'm sure the competition in Silver 2 and 1 will be plenty for me while I'm still building up.

I appreciate your generous offer. I think I'm comfortable at the moment and will be building more with upcoming public packs to quickly jump in CP. I'll ultimately need to pay up to get my gold summoners up to support Level 2 Legendary, but am most keen on getting more regular summoners so I can take advantage of the cheap commons/epics to make them level 4+.

Will there be no +1 MANA for water then? That is so sad.

Yea I was lucky to jump in when everything was starting. I estimate that up through the Untamed series, I put in $600. I've since put that back into my bank account so everything is gravy. I've bought just over 500 CL packs and the crazy thing is, I bought them all with DEC or money I earned from the game.

Now I'm running low on in game cash and I really want to buy more packs once the general sale starts. :)

I sent you a gold lvl 4 sandworm. Hopefully that helps a bit with the CP. Not to mention sandworm kicks ass in lower levels.

Keep grinding bro.

Wow hearing your initial investment, but then seeing how much you've compounded that for no additional financial cost is amazing. Talk about peace of mind. I hope that what I'm putting in today simply doesn't lose me money since I'm so late. Thanks for the card. That'll be especially helpful in the reverse speed matches.
