Battling for Splinter Elites
For some time I have been part of the Splinter Elites guild on Splinterlands. They are a friendly bunch and we have fun competing in the brawls agains other guilds. We managed to win the latest one and I was quite happy to win all my battles this time. That does not happen too often, but the guild has generally done well. We do not currently have any free slots for new members.
I am still working out the various aspects of brawls. You have various types of guild building (arena, barracks and store) that all play a part. We upgraded our store and that allowed me to buy my first item from there, which was a Gladius Case. That is a pack of cards that can only be used in brawls and you also cannot sell them. That seems a bit of a limitation, but I will see if they are useful.
I have been renting out some of my cards from splinters I do not use much and also lent some to someone to get them started. Until the latest set of cards were released you were lucky to win any in daily quests.
Today I saw this story on popular financial advice site The Motley Fool about Splinterlands. They are reviewing it as an investment opportunity. Their writer got to a collection worth $12,000, which has to be a good return on $10, but then you have to put in the playing time. Meanwhile people play other games that give them nothing back.
I am still playing Rising Star too. I always have a mission going on that except for part of the night as I am not getting up to start one. Some people seem to never sleep judging my the time they clock up. I just did a big card swap with someone to optimise our respective collections. I think some of the out of print cards could shoot up in value as newer players will want them. We shall see.
See you on the battlefield!
I bought about $100 of Steemmonsters cards back in 2018… I forgot about them…. never played Splinterlands… checked my card value when they announced SPS airdrop… my cards are worth $6,700 .. getting 12 SPS per day from staking … nothing like it anywhere.
I got my starter pack for free at SF3 and have spent a bit on cards, but have played a lot. My collection is worth about $15k and I have a nice income from SPS that I can use as I like. My investment has paid off in the end.
That’s awesome. I probably should have bought more cards but I am buying Dark Energy Crystals and SPS on the dips. Would love to buy some plots … if they ever drop a bit.
I think it's a shame that this is how Splinterlands is mostly promoted these days.
The amount of entitlement in the Discords is depressing. I paid this but I'm not making enough, type of stuff. It reminds me of people landing on Steemit in the old days and complaining they were't making enough on their posts after they'd written a couple.
Anything earned on $10 is a bonus when you consider how much people spend on games that earn them nothing.
That type of article just fuels the get rich quick entitled brigade. 😢
I've been meaning to do this for some time now but there always seem to be something more important to do. 😁

Splinterlands does seem more about money than gameplay these days. You need to make a big investment to do well. Cards are so expensive. I cannot really afford to level up some of mine. I know they have lots of new players, but how many will stick with it?

they need to continue the development. before all this craziness started i was playing daily quests every few days as it started to be a bit repetitive but then the introduced brawls and even there was no rewards i got me competitive again.
Was looking at my paypal account, i spent 160$ on this. And at the moment i can't complain :) not that i sold anything.
They need to keep it fun for the majority, but I do suspect money is driving things really.

.Hey @gillianpearce, here is a little bit of
BEER
from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!Did you know that you can use BEER at dCity game to **buy dCity NFT cards** to rule the world.
I started to play some months ago and I can say those first $10 was really a good investment, also because I really like to play there. At the start I felt myself a little addicted, but now I'm playing in a "normal" way and I'm satisfied. :D
It can be fun to just play, but I think a lot of people are mainly chasing money. I hope it stays fun for you.

Are those Gladius cards fixed or combinable? Looks like the former. No levels? I got some merits, but am around 16 short of a pack, bummer!
You can level them up. You can dump them for DEC, but that won't be much. You'll have to do more brawls :)
I guess this is part of the game you can't just buy your way into.
Thanks for sharing Steve.
I have only been playing splinterlands for a month as lethal.larrikin and am still grinding it out in Bronze level.
I have been playing clash of clans and pokemon go with a heap of guys from work for years and have just sent them the motley fool article. I have been trying to get them into all this crypto stuff, I am really enjoying the learn, play and earn.
Splinterlands is a nice entry point to Hive. I used to get up to Champion before the power limits. Now I can sometimes get to Diamond.
I hope some of your friends will give it a go. They should look at Rising Star too as that is free to play.

Cheers for the wine, but do you have anything to say? I like some real comments on my posts :)
@steevc,
Honestly I don't play Splinterlands. I play DCity, but I feel those games (if play as investment) might go ponzi somehow. But as games they are interesting.
I use WINE tag to share something valuable, coz my vote power is delegated to a curation project. Sorry if you feel annoyed due to that.
Cheers~
Not annoyed, just want to know if people actually like what I do.
What does 'go ponzi' mean? A 'ponzi' is a specific scam. These games are a lot about money, but some play them for fun. Those running them have a tricky job of balancing the economy. I won't put in too much money, but if I can make something that's a bonus. I've done well from Splinterlands recently, but not looking to sell my cards.
@steevc,
Dcity seems not strong as Splinterlands & most of my STEEM funds stuck there.
I have some stuff in dcity, but I'm not adding to it. I get a tiny income from it. It's not that interesting to me and I am not going invest more in it. Others may enjoy that sort of strategy game more.
BTW Why tag me in a reply? It just generates an extra notification. I see replies anyway. Just saying :)
My bad habit, wanna fix that soon. Sorry about that!
Splinterland is really amazing.
Congrats on the brawl win. I don't think I have ever won all of my battles. I really suck at the strategy though. That is pretty cool that Splinterlands was getting some mainstream attention.
I don't claim to be great at strategy. I tend to use the same few cards and that may be a weakness. Some of the summoners I don't have can be really powerful and hard to compete against, but I got lucky this time.
I should really improve some of my summoners, but I don't feel like spending the money on it...
That gets expensive. Will cost $100s for each of mine I think. I will just pump back the DEC I make in the game.
That is what I have been doing. I started renting a bunch of my cards out as well.
I finally check what my collection is worth and it's around $800 at the moment which is pretty damn good considering I haven't put any where near that much in.
I'm probably going to start doing more brawls again if I remember, I'd probably enjoy the game more if I can manage to stay in silver 3 or bronze 1 cause then I'll get fancy rulesets to play with.
Rising star is alright, I'm stacking starbits to get the 1Mil quest unlocked at the moment. I feel like they might need additional ways to remove starbits from circulation so that the value of starbits goes back to it's 'peg'

I expect a lot of people would be surprised at what their cards are worth. Renting out can be a good option for those who won't be playing.
I think @atomcollector is doing a good job of balancing the Rising Star economy, There are ways to burn Starbits and Star Pro, but not all will use them. I just find it fun.

There are lots of posts about it by others. They have their own Hive front end at https://www.splintertalk.io/
Just have a go at it and you will soon learn.
Okay will check it out
I kick myself a bit for selling out of this when I did. I was in it for the alpha and beta decks period with every card leveled up to the max, even won a few good sized tournaments and placed in others. Ah well, it was a great time while it lasted :)
These things are always a gamble. I've not had many big wins in crypto, so I will enjoy this one. Hope you had others.

You should be getting the new cards. I have already levelled up old ones, but that has got more expensive recently. Just let me know when you feel self-sufficient.
