How to get free Splinterlands cards - Beginner advice

Hello everyone, in previous posts I already talked on my Splinterlands journey and some tips for beginners. Today I am going to give even more advice for beginners: How to grow your Splinterlands card collection? When I just started playing Splinterlands, I was totally new to the world of crypto, blockchain and NFT's. As I didn't know anything about it, I didn't know what I could trust and what not. This led to my decision to not invest any fiat as I didn't want to lose anything. So I had to check out other ways of growing my collection of Splinterlands cards. I hope you'll learn something new to grow yours as well! Let's dive straight into my tips and tricks!

Engagement

When I just joined Splinterlands, I found out that there are quite some streamers on Twitch which stream their Splinterlands battles. Watching these streams has multiple advantages: you learn the game, you get to know new people and often they host giveaways through their streams. When I was new and joined my first Twitch stream in which I was asking for help as I didn't understand anything of Splinterlands, I received some delegations and even got some cards for free! An important tip hereby is to not beg for anything! Just socialize and engage with others, see the eventual presents as a sweet extra!

Besides Twitch, another good place to engage with other Splinterlands players is the Splinterlands discord. Here I met some fellow Dutch speaking players who helped me out with advice and even some awesome delegations. Once again, don't beg, be kind and engage. It's like building your account on Hive: You have to put effort in, socialize, be consistent and above all: be kind! There are several other discords as well, like the one of the Pizza guild of @hive.pizza who organize different weekly giveaways as well. I won't list all possible discords here as I'll probably forget some and it's not the sole focus of this article. Maybe I'll try it in a future article ;)

Probably the best place to engage with fellow Splinterlands players is the Hive blockchain! There is even a community dedicated to Splinterlands. Here you can write your articles about Splinterlands and for doing so, you'll potentially earn some Hive / HBD which you can use to buy more Splinterlands assets about which you can write more articles and so you can repeat the circle! Besides creating content yourself, you can participate in several giveaways hosted on the Hive blockchain in which you can win Splinterlands cards.

Play battles

Yes, you are reading it well. You can win cards for playing Splinterlands. By completing your daily quests and or progressing through the season, you're able to win chests. These chests could contain merits, sps, packs and reward cards. At the moment the reward cards aren't tradeable but you could still level them up or play them. So it's a great way to enrich your collection in my opinion! In the packs that you could win, could be some awesome cards as well. Ofcourse you could swap the received sps and buy cards with the proceeds as well. As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities to receive Splinterlands cards while playing the game!

Join a guild and brawl

I already touched the subject of merits as they could be hidden inside reward chests. But the majority of merits could be earned through brawling. Important hereby is that you have to be a member of a guild. Brawling are actually battles between guilds. When you've fully participated in a brawl, you'll earn merits. These merits could be used to buy gladiator packs. As you could probably already guess, inside these packs you can find gladiator cards. These are untradeable but contain powerful cards which have the bloodlust ability. In the past, you could only use them inside brawls, but since the latest set of reward cards, we are able to utilize them in other fights as well!

Conclusion

As you could read, there are several ways of receiving Splinterlands cards. My personal favorite is to engage with people. When someone gift me a card, it always fullfills my heart with joy. So to all the people who were generous to gift me one or multiple cards: Thank you! Whenever I could help you, feel free to ask me! I would be more than happy to support you!

As always, thanks for reading!

How did I begin to play Splinterlands?

Source

It all began in December 2021, I was a bit bored and was looking for a new game to play on my laptop. After googling a bit, I saw the term play2earn in my google results. I didn't know it at that time but it seemed awesome, earning money while playing games instead of spending money on those games. Soon I learned that play2earn means that you can indeed earn some money to play the games. How does it work? While playing those games, you can earn NFT's of those games. These NFT's can be traded and sold for cryptocurrencies which could be swapped for fiat if you would like to. That's how I started.

Do you want to try out Splinterlands aswell?

Yeah they stopped SPL tv a few months back if I'm not wrong 😣

So no more streaming in Twitch from streamers that are employed by SPL but there may still be individual streamers out there showcasing SPL on their own channels.

Nowadays I'm not that often watching streams. When I just joined Splinterlands, nearly 2 years ago, I watched way more. Usually just checking the ones streaming Splinterlands. Didn't have certain specific ones, although I liked the streams of @clove71!:D

Yeah after SPLtv stopped, I just stop going over to Twitch altogether!
Not that I have a great deal of time for streams nowadays either.

I shall keep a lookout for @clove71 when I do hop on over!
Thanks for sharing! 😁
