My first Rebellion battles: Review of the Rebellion set

Hello everyone!
A couple of days ago, I first played with and against cards of the Rebellion set. As I don't find a lot of time nowadays to play Splinterlands, I'm running a bit behind. As I had to fill my battles for the brawl, I finally managed to use those new cards. My first impression is that this set definitely is awesome! But I will try to write a bit more in detail about my experiences.

New abilities

  • Armored Strike - Any unit with this ability gains an ADDITIONAL Melee attack using its Armor stat. This allows characters to improvise with deadly force, using their gauntlets, shields, helmets, or perhaps physical attributes (spikes, hard shells, etc) as weapons!
  • Corrosive Ward - When hit with a Melee attack, a unit with this ability does 2 damage to the attacker's Armor AND reduces the max Armor of the attacker by 2. This is the nemesis to the Repair ability. You can't Repair something that's been melted into acidic goo! Note that this only affects units with Armor.
  • Flank - If the unit with this ability is in the first position, then the unit in the second position gains the Reach ability. Prepare to leverage positioning and the element of surprise. Now your first two units can work together to bring down the enemy tank!
  • Lookout - A unit with this ability results in adjacent allies taking one less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity. Give your team a heads-up when stalkers approach from the shadows. It's always a good idea to have a Lookout!

As you probably already know by now, there are some new abilities introduced in the Rebellion set. As I played my first games, I was expecting to face them. I have to admit though that I didn't utilize any of above mentioned abilities. So for now, I can't say that much about them. Although I still think that these new abilities DO add an extra tactic element to the game!

New gameplay elements

  • The multi-element summoners are thus summoners who let the player use 2 types of monsters. You could for example utilize fire and earth monsters if a certain summoners supports these 2 elements. Together with the neutral monsters, this lets you use 3 types of monsters! I don't have to tell you that this will shake up the current meta.
  • Summoner tactics means that after selecting your summoner and monsters there will be a new phase. When both you and the enemy player have selected their cards and are ready for the battle. There will be a phase in which you can choose which ability of your summoner you want to utilize while you can already see the opponent team. This is yet another aspect which will shake up the current combinations of cards being played.

These are some aspects which I utilized myself and it was really awesome! I didn't play a multi-element summoner but I did utilize the summoner tactics thing. This will force you to choose one of the 2 abilities of your summoner. This really adds an extra dimension to the gameplay as there are plenty of possibilities how to utilize it. In one of my battles, I used 'Avina of the wolf' which let me choose between giving +2 speed to a monster or the heal ability to a monster. I used the latter, when you give it to a monster which is already rather tanky and has the bloodlust abilitiy, it is really powerfull! Another summoner I used was Prophet Rosa, which made me choose between giving a +2 ranged attack boost to a monster or giving the shield ability to a monster. Here I used again the second option which made my tank even more tankier. As I played against a melee comp, My tank was really soaking up all the damage!

Conclusion

I think the Rebellion set definitely adds an extra layer of tactics to the game. So I would like to complement the Splinterlands team as I think they did a great job by adding the new game elements. One thing which is needed when you develop whatever game is to keep the people enthousiast about your game, adding these new abilities will definitely help to keep people entertained!

How did I begin to play Splinterlands?

Source

It all began in December 2021, I was a bit bored and was looking for a new game to play on my laptop. After googling a bit, I saw the term play2earn in my google results. I didn't know it at that time but it seemed awesome, earning money while playing games instead of spending money on those games. Soon I learned that play2earn means that you can indeed earn some money to play the games. How does it work? While playing those games, you can earn NFT's of those games. These NFT's can be traded and sold for cryptocurrencies which could be swapped for fiat if you would like to. That's how I started.

Do you want to try out Splinterlands aswell?
