Reimagining with AI: Exploding Rats

It's time again for another Reimagining with AI article. And since I covered a non-human card last week, I decided to continue the trend and feature another creature. This time, it's the pitiful yet wonderful, Exploding Rats!

Ah, the Exploding Rats. Is there a more tragic story in the land of Praetoria? If you read the lore behind them, Exploding Rats are just normal rodents equipped with exploding spells and make them living, breathing, walking grenades perfect for destructive purposes.

If you examine the art closely, you can see that their innards are glowing with the explosive magic and ready to explode. The two rats on the left and right looks innocent enough and completely unaware that they are moments away from death.

The creature's name is a pretty straightforward description for what it is so I first tried to use it as the text prompt. And once again, the AI never fails to create some kind of horrendous abomination. I honestly don't know what to make of this as it doesn't have a visible head. Maybe it's got its back against us and is leaning towards the fire. But the hair that extends through the tail is extremely uncomfortable for me to look at.

Text Prompt: Three Rats Jumping and Fireballs

In the original art, you can see three rats with tiny explosions going on around them. I tried to replicate it by describing it as "rats jumping and fireballs." But what the AI gave me was another bizarre creation. At a glance, you can see four innocent mice standing upright with one even jumping. There's no fireballs though.

But if you look closely at the details, the left mouse has a tentacle or tail for an arm. The one jumping has misshapen legs and even has one leg growing in its snout. You may think that the middle rat is perfectly created but the fingers on its forelimb is all jumbled up too.

Text Prompt: Rats and Fireballs

I finally got a decent artwork at the third attempt. I just threw in a text prompt of "rats and fireballs" and got a good result. If you pay attention to its head, you can see that it's glowing and ready to explode. You can also see an explosion in the background which is a nice addition. I decided to stop here before the AI decides to spit out another nightmarish artwork.

And there you have it, Exploding Rats reimagined courtesy of our trusty AI. Although it spew out a lot of undesirable and imperfect creations, the AI is amazingly doing great and it will continue to improve over time. It's both scary and exciting to see what it can do in the future. Also, remember, if you see a glowing rat, run as fast as you can. 😂
