Share Your Battle: Regal Peryton

Regal Peryton is a card that has helped me through countless tight situations, especially on low mana rule sets. For this week's share your battle, let's take a deeper look into this majestic monster.

On my initial impression, I really couldn't understand the art of Regal Peryton. It looked like a deer with wings like how pegasus are winged horses. But after seeing the full art, I now see that it is a chimaera-like creature with the head of a deer and the body of a bird, more akin to griffins. And similar to what its artwork depicts, their lore describes them as noble guardians that are rarely seen.

Regal Peryton's stats are focused mainly on speed and health while having lower magic damage. But for five mana, it can easily fit an extra slot on the lineup. The combination of high speed and flying ability makes for a very high rate of evasion.

This is probably not the best card combination for Regal Peryton but these two are what I personally like to use around it. I sometimes place Mycelic Slipspawn on the second position while Regal Peryton is the frontliner. The slow helps increase evasion rate while taunt also diverts some damage away from Regal Peryton.

And since magic damage will be the obvious weakness of Regal Peryton, Goblin Psychic's silence ability can help reduce it. It also heals and removes positive buffs and healing capability of the enemy tank. Overall, Goblin Psychic is one of the best healer card in the modern format.

For my shared battle, it's a 29-mana earthquake and fog of war rule set. My opponent and I had the same idea of placing flying monsters as tank to avoid earthquake damage. While I went all-out on magic damage with Obsidian, my opponent's lineup were a counter to mine. He had Thaddeus that lessens magic damage by one as well as Gargoya Lion that has void.

My advantage on the match is that my cards are on the gold league level while my opponent is maxed for silver. I also have a last stand enabled Kron as a last resort trump card.

Regal Peryton dodges the first attack. Queen Mycelia's armor buff also helped mitigate some early damage. My monsters just need to take down Gargoya Lion and the biggest enemy threat, Raa, will be set in the first position, disabling its ranged attacks.

Queen Mycelia falls on round two and so is Gargoya Lion. Victory is secured as Lira the Dark is effectively the only damage dealer left on my opponent's side while I still have three monsters.

The match ended at round three and Regal Peryton finishes it unscathed. This is thanks to its high evasion and Goblin Psychic's support heal.
