It is the start of a fresh new season and unfortunately, I am still stuck in the modern bronze hell. I've been trying to push through silver for almost a week now. And it's been a real struggle doing battles in bronze. And although sometimes I do get occasional win streaks, the majority of my win rate is around 20% to 30%. I bounce back and forth the bronze II and bronze I level but never really came anywhere near the silver league boundary.

It's funny and tragic at the same time. I know the old saying is 'git gud' but everybody is already at top lineup optimization. When I think I have a good chance to win a match, the opponent is one step ahead of me and counters my team. I've even considered rage quitting at one point, but I'm still so bullish on Splinterlands so I decided to hang on.

Appreciating Where I am

And I know I complain about how hard bronze is but the truth is I only run the bare minimum in terms of card rental. I have this 'El Cheapo' deck that only has the Chaos set and no Rebellion. This makes my rental cost to the very low at around 25 DEC a day or 0.75 SPS. I can ROI my rental just by winning two or three matches.

So in terms of grinding, I'm in a good position even if it is bronze. I just need to figure out how to win more. And maybe that was why a lot of veteran players linger around the bronze league, because the SPS rewards are still fairly good considering the upkeep cost of playing.

And even though I only receive one BCX of reward cards each chest, I do get to increase my collection. I even occasionally get summoners and epic. I just don't expect my luck on legendaries or gold foils.

Good Cards in Bronze

As I now grind constantly in bronze, I am starting to see what is dominating the league. Of course, being a Llama-Kron fan, I now try to spam Quora Towershead whenever I have the chance. But it's just not the same and there are a lot of circumstances where playing Quora is just not ideal even if the mana and rule set allow for it.

Doctor Blight is a staple of every lineup in every league level. But he is especially important in bronze because of the affliction. He is one of the two possible cards that has it in the bronze level. And a common strategy is to have a tank supported by healers. Doctor Blight shuts that down and allows you to kill the enemy frontline. Rent is extremely cheap too at half a DEC.

Despite being a common Gladiator card, Katrelba Gobson is a surprisingly good card in bronze. Having sneak and double strike will surely kill one backline opponent immediately. There have been numerous times where I thought I was going to win a match and then the enemy suddenly throws her in the lineup and messes my game.

Then there's this guy. The ability to either increase two monsters' attack by 2 or just plainly apply poison to a monster is so broken, in my opinion. It can get rid of the key pieces of a lineup which breaks the whole strategy apart. And even if you don't use the poison, increasing the damage of sneak or opportunity monsters is deadly as well.

These are just a few of what I observed while playing in bronze. I know the meta will still change and more Rebellion cards will be utilized. We will see what the future brings to the game.
