300% Increase in Battle Rewards

This has been the most interesting Splinterlands season for a little while, as there has been changes to the Modern Format which has seen at least most of the bot activity reduced, which has made things both easier, and harder. It is easier because playing against humans means that more mistakes are made in opposition, so my win rate has gone up.

It is also harder, because there are less players, which means that while rising quite quickly into C2, I struggled to get consistent wins, getting driven back to D1 for a few rounds even, as losses are costly. Overall though, I like this far better because it feels better to lose against someone on the other side of the screen, rather than a hollow shell of a bot.

image.png

There is still four days left in the season, but after a good run this morning of an 11-game streak (incredibly rare for me!), I was able to break into Champion 1, and even though I am scraping through, I am currently in 26th place. I have never been this high at this point in the season earlier and often, I would be between 150 and 300, finishing the season outside the top 100. I have broken into the T100 on odd occasions, but I have never picked up any DEC rewards.

image.png

I suspect I won't this season either, but it is interesting to note that there are currently only 34 accounts in the top league, with a massive spread between 4303 and 4460 points. That is half a bracket difference! And currently, I believe that there are still Battle Helper accounts in that group, though that might change in the future.

Two proposals (1 and 2) to update the Terms of Service (ToS) to remove bots from Tournaments and Brawls, and Battle Helper from Modern Ranked, Tournaments and Brawls both passed through the Proposal stage. But, even if they hadn't passed, the creator of the main Battle Helper said they would remove BH support from Tournaments, Tier 3+ Brawls and Champion League. That makes sense to me, as I think that having battle helper support in lower leagues could be useful for people to train and learn, but in the higher stakes of Champion, it really should be human versus human.

image.png

And the stakes are higher, now that this little "Boost" logo is there, because it indicates benefits to rewards based on staked SPS and the status of the Guild played for. For instance, I get a x13 multiplier at the moment, which heavily affects my win rewards. Because of this, the more I win, the larger the impact.

image.png

Losing to largely unstaked bots that were only playing for daily rewards and EOS position rewards, meant that my Battle Earnings were severely affected. I have gone from earning 50-100 SPS for battles a day, to 200-350 a day. That is the difference between 1-2 dollars, to 4-7 dollars a day, which is significant. And, as you can see from the amount of rounds I have played, I have bought some game tokens too, which I have been doing often since that became a thing.

Taking a Token

The difference now however is that because my win rate has gone up and I am earning more in Battle rewards, as well as getting more Daily Chest rewards, the cost of buying tokens is offset, so it isn't just a cost, I get something in return. This makes buying the token more of an investment, or at least, less of a loss. Ultimately, I don't want to buy any game tokens though, and I will hopefully start improving my play and renting some more cards with rewards.

image.png

Epona reminds me of my wife - Petite Mana, repairs and empowers others.

Is it Worth it?

As you can see from the last round I played, the multiplier has quite an effect, as it depends on ranking points, plus the SPS and guild bonuses. Previously before all of these changes, I would be lucky to get 2 SPS for the wins I did manage, but getting 20 is huge. That is around 45 cents worth. And very importantly, the RP is also affected, which means that there are more daily chests and EOS chests, which increases the chances and value of cards and rewards.

image.png

I played 8 rounds this morning and earned 9 Champion Chests.

And no, this isn't to brag or showoff in any way, it is to highlight that the recent changes have impacted heavily on me, a player and investor in Splinterlands assets. With a higher win rate as a player, the investments I have made into cards and SPS has a higher ROI, and with the increases in points per win, playing is more valuable too, so I can earn more reward cards for the future.

I am hoping that people who have invested into cards and SPS will realize that it might be worth playing again in Modern, as they will have a better shot to win, especially as they improve their own gameplay.

About to Land

And, this is going to get even more interesting in a few weeks as Land 1.5 is released which will start the staking of cards to plots, because there will be tension put on all aspects of the ecosystem in terms of gameplay and the economy. Cards will not only disappear from the rental markets, they will also be syphoned from playing accounts in order to maximize rewards too. This puts pressure on rental prices, but it also potentially releases some pressure on game play, which increases odds of winning and the subsequent rewards that come with it.

My win ratio hasn't changed remarkably, but it has improved outcomes significantly, because I am able to get more streaks, even if short streaks of three or four. Currently, my win percentage is only 53%, but that is a change of around 7-8% over previous seasons and coupled with multiplied earnings, has a very large affect on the value of my playing. And perhaps more importantly for me,

I feel better playing now.

Play on Potential?

So much so that now I am unsure as to what to do. I have scraped into C1 and currently even with the potential for a 20,000 DEC position reward, but I have the possibility to play another 50 rounds and still start the next season with full tokens. Potentially, at current win rate, that would be a possible 500 SPS extra, which is worth 11 dollars, but also maybe another 20 Champion Daily chests, worth probably 6-10 dollars plus the chance for important cards. The 20K DEC reward is worth 16 dollars, but there are no chests with that, but I am unlikely to hold that poistion for 4 days anyway. However, there is a risk of course, because I could play, but losses are likely going to be very expensive in points, so I will likely end up pushed out of C1 and end up starting next season in C3, instead of C2.

So, either way, there is potential to win and, potential to lose and for the first time in a long time of playing, I feel that there is a better balance for those who want to actually play.

How have your gaming and investment experiences been this season?

I read your whole post, but still I was unable to understand 😅.
Actually I am a new user that is why first I will take a complete look at each and every single point about this game and then I will start playing this game.
Because it is getting popular day by day.
From your last posts I remember that you made some kind of streaks and these type of things.
And to answer your that question at last
I have not started playing this game yet. Because I am like a child here🙃

I have also climbed to the forties in the modern champion league rank, but I could not sustain that level. Now I am around 100. My primary motivation is to get more soulbound reward cards. I have 8 of them with max level and lots of them with max-1 level. Having more max-level reward cards would be great.

This is my goal too, which is why the extra chests is more important than the SPS rewards. Out of the many, many rounds I have played, I have only managed to max 3 commons and one GFL (lucky!) - it has been a struggle, even though I have bought a lot of tokens. Hopefully though now, it will speed up a bit with some more wins.

What is your favourite maxed so far?

  1. Drybone Raider
  2. Coastal Centry
  3. Pyrewatch Devil

There are also max-1 ones I use a lot — especially fire monsters.

Coastal sentry is a good card, but I have barely used it! Mine is L8, but it would be nice with the L10 knockout.

I don't think I have ever used Pyrewatch, but it looks like a good card (mine is L7). I need to improve my knowledge and go wider.

Raider is good also, especially for the slow sets.

Are you using BH?

No, I don't.

I use coastal sentry in the second place with the summoner Possiblus The Wise. (Baakjira in the first place)

will give it a go.

Out of curiosity, do you think weapons training for range should teach close range if that is the ability of the training card?

I don't think so. All the monsters should be in the back row, I suppose. I never tried, though.

for those who have little SPS, it's quite a disaster. Basically, it's easier to get higher in the rating, but the rewards are lower in my case.

This is an interesting one, because when I started and then SPS came, there was always meant to be benefit to buying and staking, which I did. However, all that has happened is the price go down with very little return. Perhaps now more people will stake at lower level?

so without much investment I have a third of the rewards in silver. and some people sell accounts. They don't want to invest in SPS + souldboond card

At some point, those soulbound cards get unbound too, so they do have a value. I can't remember all the numbers for how much SPS is needed to multiple for different leagues, but I suppose that it is possible to keep staking and over time it builds.

I'm definitely liking the rewards changes so far. It does seem more sustainable and probably will be able to attract investors who are willing to hold their cards and SPS.

I hope so and, it should make buying future releases more attractive also, as they will be needed to compete. The sales of CL and RW has been dismal, partly because there is very little incentive to have them.

I'm in Gold III and Silver I mostly. Hope I can progress further this season.

Yeah, they have a real dilemma there. They're launching the new packs too fast in my opinion but I guess the development team needs to get paid. The new users aren't coming in fast enough like they used to, to absorb the packs.

Yep - so there has to be other mechanisms and incentives. If people can win with bots just playing their old cards and renting a few key new ones without investing more, why would they buy more? Most of the very large decks have been there from the start and they didn't necessarily pay that much for them.

I am a little bit disappointed in Splinterlands because renting market died on me, while I have lots of old cards.
not sure what exactly is the reason - do people rent newer cards? is there less players? no idea

If you have older cards (A and B), they are only being used in the wild format. But overall, the rental market is a bit dead these days. in a week or two, Land 1.5 launches though, and that might soak up a lot of floating cards, so it should impact on rentals a bit.

I might have to go back and give modern a try. I have never been really good at the strategy piece of the game, but I have been doing better lately in brawls, so either people are getting worse or I am getting better. Either way, I might stand a chance of earning a little more!

I think modern is fun to play for me, as I don't have older cards anyway, so I get caned in Wild, especially now that all the bots are there.

I wish the SPS requirements weren’t so obscene. I don’t mind them overall but the numbers are fucked up. I sold about 4K SPS in the early days and then 10 for Riftwatchers but even adding that to my full total I would only be at about 50k SPS, and I would need to buy 40k SPS to play in diamond the way I am used to and able to. That’s insane! Never mind champion. I said fuck it and just went to renting it all again to wait and see what happens with all this crap lol I’m missing out on the human only modern but I’m hamstrung on rewards, I’ve got “only” 36k SPS right now. Hardly enough for fucking silver.

What is the difference for you in Diamond in terms of rewards and do you still earn the soulbound cards?

image.png

With 30K it is still a 2.5x reward multiplier, isn't it? I am at 11x and to get to 12x, I would need about 600K! But, playing is still fine regardless of the multiplier and earnings are okay, aren't they?

Isn’t 10x multiplier the baseline before the change?

Modern is too hard for me. In wild I can at least get to silver. But maybe the game overall is too hard for me...

I am playing wild silver and just moved into gold at the moment, since I finished for the season in modern. It is okay at the lower end - will see what gold is like tomorrow! :)

I think it is now also important to split up wild into a non-bot and bot category, because Wild became now unplayable for humans.

I agree it much better in modern, but to play in champion you need enough SPS to make it worthwhile. I am sticking in gold because that is the SPS level that give me a decent multiplier. I have preferred to keep my investments in BTC not Splinterlands and thank God I did, SPS hasn't performed well. I love the game, but until they can bring in new players it's not going to grow. And the barriers to new players coming in and thriving are becoming huge, I fear it may in the end kill the game.

It is interesting, because I bought SPS whilst I was only able to get into Diamond. It took me ages to finally break into Champion! I get your point though, I just don't know the numbers.

I have similar fears.

Congratulations!

When I look at the time spent (ignore the upfront investment like cards and SPS for a sec), this feels a lot like “should you buy or mine” even though you can get a lot more coins buying up front?

For speculation, you get more assets even working a burger flipping minimum wage job and take the real world income and just buy up in game assets. More value out of “per hour spent”

But where is the “fun” in that? 😂

Same with the hours spent creating content on Hive - but where is the learning in that? ;) I like playing more this season than I have for a long time. Not because I have done better, because I don't think I have, but because I feel like my skills (limited) are more valuable.

I tried playing Splinterlands once last year for awhile but with my small badget and lack of knowledge I hardly got out of bronze, renting a few cards at level1. I gave up soon. With the bots out of wild I am keen to try again, for what it's worth, though don't even know what cards to rent. I might be too old for this game lol.

It might be fun to play a little and see how it goes - but play modern - as there are less bots there. Wild is "wild" :)

I have been up there early on in the season but when the end of the season shows up, I just see myself kicked off. A single loss takes away so many points while it takes a lot of wins before you can even make up those points. So at that stage, it depends on people trying not to lose as much as possible. The DEC reward just seems like a far off dream.

I have stopped playing for the season and will finish in C1, in whatever position I hold. I was the first one into C2 at the start of the season, but couldn't hold it, as I was getting streams of 36 point losses :D

If I get a reward, it will be my first.

The current season has been kind of rough lately. I think all the modern people recovered their points and it's making the fights tougher. I guess it might be a decent strategy to just stop if you don't want to risk the league rewards.

I played 8 rounds this morning and earned 9 Champion Chests.

Together with getting 20.595 SPS from winning a battle is so sick! 😍😍

So, either way, there is potential to win and, potential to lose

Haha this is so true, always a dilemma especially when you're in the Leaderboard fight, I sometimes freeze in the battle when setting up my team, overthinking kills my play 😅

The rating gap is huge these days, winning gives miserable ratings but losing causes a huge drop most of the time 😖

I don't really have the luxury of time to sit in front of the computer whenever I grind, doing it over the mobile application and I would say the experience is not the best. Just wish they would improve it somehow but don't think that was scheduled in their road map at all 😭

Just like you mate, I went on a nice streak today and crushed @giker to get into Human Champ 1. However, since I am on my way to a music festival for the weekend (Elements), I will likely switch on the bot to finish the season in Wild Champ to see if I can get both formats into Champ 1.

I've been renting SPS from Vugtis and getting full multipliers as well, it is very nice returns lately. Plus my favorite part is all the shit talking with the other live humans you are playing after a good battle. Lucky you are in euro time and get to dodge me for the most part. Luis is lethal, always a fierce opponent!

@giker deserves a good crushing now and again.

Since I have paused for the EOS now, I have played in Wild for the first time in months (other than Brawls). I wish my Modern looked like this:

Was hoping to hold onto some DEC rewards, as I have never got any, but I suspect I will be knocked out of T50 by EOS. Looks like you knocked me out of the 40K into the 20K slots. Ass....
