Crushed Mint

avatar

The minting of the Runicore has started at OpenSea on the Ethereum network, and after much hype, anticipation and fanfare, and after waiting a month or so since whitelisting....

Plus $530 worth of Eth...

This is the result:

Worth it?

Sure. Why not... What does it matter...

And no gold foil either.

I think that out of the two I own and while neither are the "manliest" of images, the green one is by far the better, because it would suck to have the last hit for defeat delivered by a ChupaChup holding a needle.

And, I like the irony.

It seems that is going to be awhile before it gets any usage however, as currently there is no way to get it in game afaik, and the last update I saw was "not today" - which doesn't exude confidence that it will be tomorrow either.

The first thousand are already minted:

And while that isn't a huge rush flying off the shelves, the open sale hasn't started yet and the whitelisted buyers don't have to rush at all. This means that they do go public on November 3rd, it will be a better indicator of demand. However, I Still think that they aren't going to fly off the shelves. If the card was stronger, it would likely see more demand, but even then, "non-native" sales of Splinterlands releases don't seem to go that well in general. Waka Spiritblade was a good example. Gone in moments in game - barely sold elsewhere.

These are also going to be far more unwieldy to use and I am unsure if there will be the potential for a rental market for them, at least not through @peakmonsters. That reduces their value a bit, but hey - I might be able to delegate my spare one to a player in need one day.

At the moment, neither of them feel representative of "me" - They would have to be far less manly for that to be the case. But, I do think that there will be an evolution in the NFT space, where usable NFTs like these will also become more customizable, and still playable in-game. It would be possible to do it using a similar mechanism as the Runi was created, but give people the freedom to create using the toolkit, selecting the character components they want.

Mine would be hot.

And have a reputation.

As all of this NFT stuff starts to become more than just an expensive digital image of something silly, they are going to be used for far more and will start to represent all kinds of IRL assets, perhaps becoming personal identifiers also. Wouldn't it be interesting to use these as sign-ins for voting proofs - voting should be done on decentralized blockchains anyway. Take the "guess work" out of validity.

All the basic building blocks are there for a pretty amazing crypto space that intertwines with our daily lives, but it all just needs to be pulled together into something usable and simplified to lower the entry for normal people. But, would normal people be buying stuff like this, or does it take a special type of person - A crypto person.

How about other Runicore minters - anything good?

Nice nonetheless. You got 2 for almost the price of one 😀

Is this a card you would use regularly over existing cards?

Hmm... It is a bit player I think. Reverse speed, no magic and it might have a chance! :D

I browsed OpenSea and couldn’t figure out which one is gold foil. Is it the ones with gold background?

the golds have some little gold frame corners of them - it is not very clear. Also, that market place is crap!!

I think the way to see the demand for the Runis currently is what people have paid for them in Opensea since the mint happened. I think the highest went for around $1k which is 4 times what you paid for 1 Runi. So not as bad as you might think.

Not so sure it will last that way though - I suspect that once the initial hype wears off, it will go below the 250 for a time.

I think once the general minting takes place, we might be able to see how it all goes. But if you don't believe the hype, you should sell one of your Runis that you aren't so keen on for 0.4 ETH and mint another one in the general mint.

The general mint price is 500 each though, isn't it?
So it would be break even.

General mint is 0.38 ETH and with ETH spiking hard, its more then USD500.

It's more of a gamble that you will get a cooler Runi :)

Sounds like Main Character Syndrome XD

I remember trying to explain the possibilities and pros and cons of nfts to some gamers (some play the types of games where there are items that can be traded, sometimes crafted and traded, though I think in some of the games you're technically not "allowed" to trade or sell items but nobody cares as long as they get what they want, some play ccgs, some to all) including citing Splinterlands examples, but they are SO sure that they somehow know everything there is to know about nfts because they know of the existence of some monkey pfps and that pathetic losers steal art to mint, and anything that doesn't support their narrative is screamed down and deliberately and studiously ignored as hard as possible, like pretty much everything else in life XD

The monkey nonsense and famous people creating random shit as NFTs has done a lot of damage in my opinion, as it has made it look like there is no utility at all, making it all a joke. Though, that is pretty much what crypto is about to the majority of people - a joke :D

This may be a good investment and have legs as well, but yeah, I doubt the average Joe would get see the potential, where as a crypto has more of an entrepreneur spirit and would take the risk for the reward.

And, crypto has people who have been in on crypto for a while, so they don't have to spend fiat directly.

Those card designs are interesting. Especially Plant head.

It is a shame that you did not get gold fold.

Planthead should be good to deliver some annoying wins sometimes! :D

If one NFT is sold for $530, the second one will be free :)

I regret that I did not buy two cryptopunks for 4 ETH on OpenSea. And then I went to SuperRare and bought some NFTs for 2-3 ETH. Well, at least I sold them later for a small plus.

I have a free one ;D

I have never really got into the NFT thing (the images and the like) - I understand there can be profit in the hype times - but there are also some pretty deep bags with not much chance of recovery.
