From Gold to Glory

avatar

Everyone loves gold, but not when they have diamond within reach.

...and perhaps more?

image.png

I waited for the early crowds to clear before entering the fray, in the hope for an easier run through, or so I thought. However, I battled FOR DAYS in the throng in what seemed like an endless loop of small wins and big losses, over and over - moving from Gold I to close to Diamond III, before being knocked down, again - and again.

But just when I was losing hope and was ready to stay down in the dust bruised and bloodied, with a last ditch effort (and more rented cards than ever) I charged the enemy and finally, broke through into Diamond.

But, once there, I could taste the truth - I was kidding myself.

it wasn't enough.

image.png

Just 1

Last season I made it for the first time into Diamond I, after the season before making it to Diamond II and the one before that, to Diamond III

But...

One measly Championship point. Is that too much to ask??

And with a little random...

But with new cards, low prices and rents and fresh blood, it is a hard battle out there and I think everyone is feeling it, with experienced players struggling and some relative newbies giving them a run, or at least, bring random to the table.

Score!

image.png

What's your point?

I don't know if I actually need to win a point whilst in a Champion league to get credited or if I will get 18 awarded to me based on the score - but here I am with 3,718 points and in Champion III for the very first time! I am again, pretty happy about this and I do feel a sense of accomplishment making it through to this point, even though I have had to "buy my way in".

image.png

These 18 points are the most expensive points in the history of the world, however, this is also an investment, right? I still find it interesting how many people are playing Splinterlands and want to earn and benefit from it, but aren't necessarily willing to put a "little bit extra" into their asset range. Sure, not everyone is going to go as deep as I have, nor should they, but it is going to be slow going and perhaps not as "worth it" for many who don't put a little money where their battle is.

Some are disillusioned by the dropping prices - some are seeing it as a buy opportunity. And while I cannot say which path will come out ahead in gain or loss, what I do know is that if prices do go up in the future, there are going to be a lot of people wishing they had picked up a few of these cards and assets - if "assets" are what they will become, that is.

Top 100 in the world!

Of Splinterlands

I am at Rank 81 and this is going to drop rapidly in the coming days, but hey - I made it into the Top100 once in my lifetime at something at least. Amd, it isn't like the competition is uncontested.

image.png

I do think though, that with the changing definition of what holds value being up for review and revision, coupled with our growing need for alternate income and investment vehicles, what is considered an asset is going to change. A property is an asset that can appreciate in value and bring income through production or rent, and this is what Splinterlands cards are, especially once they get the ability to be put to work on the LAND and produce new goods and services for the marketplace.

I predict that five years from now, it is going to be commonplace for people to hold a range of land assets that are both physical and digital, but like property, the digital have to be able to be used in some way. A Splinterlands card doesn't provide shelter or warmth directly, but it can be employed to generate income in multiple ways. These assets are becoming employees in the business of blockchained finance.

Gift chickens

There is an age old saying,

Never look a gift chicken in the mouth, because they are as rare as hen's teeth.

Or something along those lines.

This season I got a lot of advice from @azircon who helped me strategize the mid-season phase a little more, to get me out of the Death by loop phase. As a prize for my "achievement" reaching Champion III this season, he gifted me not only the breast, but a whole chicken for my very own! I have been renting a maxed one, but didn't realize I can have two at the same time to use for "no melee" rulesets.

Gamechanger.

image.png

Thank you again, it is very, very much appreciated!

And it isn't the value of the card that makes it valuable to me, it is the thought behind the gift.

I actually wrote about this card the other day as an example of something that people originally discounted, only to discover it is one of the most valuable cards to hold in the game. This is why there are 27,530 cards in circulation, but only 106 on the market, with the price of a single card currently at $35 and the cheapest maxed card at $1,072. Not so "burnable" now, is it?

This phase now is crucial for Splinterlands' future, not because price is going to make or break for it, but because this is a stage in its lifecycle that is where much of the onboarding potential is going to come from, to prove itself as a digital force to be reckoned with at scale, in a world where eyes are turning toward side incomes and especially gaming. The next year is going to be telling for the entire industry, but I feel that while everyone is focusing on the price, those in the know will be looking for the proof.

Will these 18 (potential points) be the most expensive in history, or will they be early indicators of the most valuable investment decision that I have made?

Seasons come and go - but a year or two is a very long time in crypto.

Wow. I had no idea the chicken had gotten so expensive!

That's awesome!!! I never got the chicken while it was cheap because I was a very new player. I didn't understand the possible value. I'm glad you made it to champions. My goal has been to make it to Silver and it only happened once. Now with chaos I'm literally back to novice and Bronze III. I just can't figure out the meta consistantly and I play less. I'll get back to it though. It's too fun not to play

CL threw a spanner in the works for sure and I can't help you with silver, because the cards are so different between the levels, especially the new ones. Some have some great buffs to start, but more buffs to come that completely change their value. It is a lot of fun for sure.

I'm hoping to find posts out there with good lineups for 12 to 30 battles that win enough of the time. People used to post those and that's how I learned. In my opinion that is the best content we can create on hive right because people search for those things on google. I wrote one for a 19 lineup that has been working for me so far. With the post I was trying to encourage others to do the same but nobody gave a crap lol.

@azircon is looking to support strategy posts a bit, as long as they are quality - so maybe he will keep an eye out. I haven't read/ watched many of them, but my strategies aren't the best anyway :D I am better at low mana than high however.

Well this season is 4 days from being over but it is already my hardest season so far! And I played a lot of seasons. You did well Taraz. Simply that’s the best I can say. Not many people can start and get to play champions in a couple of month. It is lot more than buying your way. You played 500 plus games already and lot of them you watched I can tell. That’s a lot of effort. Congratulations! Try to hold on to this gain though.

You played 500 plus games already and lot of them you watched I can tell.

I watched them all and nearly every one of them until the end - unless I realized very early what I did wrong - like not read the ruleset correctly. Sometimes I make silly errors like change the summoner, forgetting that I had chosen that one for a particular rule. This is the "fumes" making decisions! ;D

I know you ran on fumes ... quite literally. Probably in life as well. I know you get very little sleep!

I seriously hope that you learned a lot from this season. Hopefully you will rent from the beginning (not day1 but maybe day 3). Then you will focus on precision as opposed to brute force. The game is lot more fun when you begin to predict what your opponent will play.

Probably in life as well. I know you get very little sleep!

One day - I will have a life where I can sleep in! That is what I need :)

Next season I plan on playing a lot less and now that I don't have to drop to gold, I can rent max and use them properly :)

Just be very careful this late season and also early next season. Because if you drop, you will start the vicious cycle of gold leagues again!

I am still in the Bronze leagues dreaming about Silver. It is hard for me to imagine being in Gold looking at Diamond congratulations that is awesome!!

Rents are cheap (currently), but it depends on your circumstances as to whether it is viable or not. For me, I am not looking to make money from playing or to cover my rentals, as I have enough cards to do that by renting my own out too. but, if it is an investment, I do think people should consider investing into what they use and enjoy.

I see what you are saying. For me, I have been considering renting but as you say, I need a way to cover my rentals. I would like to be able to say that I am profiting from Splinterlands but currently I think I am just at the break-even point 👍

As a noob I’m struggling in Bronze I but without my Chicken I’d probably be a noob struggling in Bronze III. 😃

It is a must have. I have been renting a max from time to time , but now I know I could have had both in circulation, I am thinking about all the games I lost, but could have won! :D

Two Chickens in the same battle? Or two of anything for that matter?

0

No, only one at a time. However, at higher levels it has a melee attack, so can't be chosen in some rulesets. I didn't know that if I had a lower level one available too, it would show that on the "no melee" rules.

Actually I recommend not renting it anymore. Melee chicken is useless. L1 chicken is usually enough except one case. Melee only battle. So ideally you need a L1 chicken and a L2 chicken. That's all.

I normally use the new 0 cards
But, it is useful sometimes to have two 0 cards with an attack - combined with a blight and a vulture.

Dude!

I've got something like 3 years on you... and I'm still struggling in Diamond II. How did you get so good so fast?!?

So you'll get the 18 points (or more if you get further in the next few days) at the end of the season, but (and I'm sure you're aware of this, but just in case you're not) you'll get 180 SPS airdrop points for the remainder of the SPS airdrop days. That's right, you get 10 SPS airdrop points for each Championship point you cumulatively earn. I'm currently getting 131,360 SPS airdrop points each day for my lifetime Championship achievements.

So, ah, great job dude!

I think the new chaos cards help, plus some rental supplements. I have rented quite a lot this season. Hopefully after the open sale I will have some maxed CL Summoners to play as well.

I knew there were points, but didn't know so many. That is a pretty decent reward for the old timers. 20 SPS a day extra for you? Can't complain!!!

Yeah, I honestly can't wait for the Open Sale to drop some prices for us. I will be absolutely rapt if I can get some CL cards around their DEC burn rate. I've got a bunch of DEC that I haven't spent (for the airdrop points) but don't want to hold onto after they launch the Wild/Modern formats (which will double the amount of DEC printed).

that makes it hard - but I suspect that building cards that are suitable to play different leagues helps. Playing helps understand what cards are decent though :)

I was surprised I made it. Are you playing each round yourself or using a bot? Many seem to bot.

What are your expectations with LAND?

I play my own account and evelynclarke. henryclarke and fletcherclarke are botted, at least until they're old enough to play themselves. Amandaclarke plays her own account, so the family's running at 60% human :)
I expect Land is going to amaze and delight us. The original vision was based on a much smaller player base and team. I can't wait to see what the guys have been able to include now that they have the resources to do whatever they like.

I can't wait to see what the guys have been able to include now that they have the resources to do whatever they like.

This is an interesting side to the development, as they are expanding the team and capabilities to build massively - so what might have been stretch goals, are now the low-hanging fruit.

I'm hearing murmurs from people who would know; that land will substantially exceed what's previously been communicated.
