Full of Bale and Woe

Well, this is a bit of a surprise. My first maxed card from the soulbound reward set, will ne a Gold Foil Legendary. My pull luck is pretty terrible (almost as bad as my RNG luck), so I have a lot of potions, but don't get much in way of decent reward cards. I don't even know if this is going to be a decent card either yet, but at least it is an interesting one.

As said, this is a soulbound card and the distribution currently stands like this:

I have an L3 regular, but decided to move up with the GFL to max, as I have no idea how long it would be to get enough for a max. I am not getting many legendaries at all. I wanted the extra +1 magic, as I feel that it is a bit lame otherwise, even with the double strike. Though, it is the only magic monster with double strike, which makes it a bit more unique at least.

There are quite a few magic only rounds, so it is useful, but there are also a lot of buff monsters for magic, as well as some Summoners like Immortalis and Mimosa. They are strong for magic only rounds, as is Thaddius, which gives a -1 on magic. However, Fire isn't a great splinter for magic all up, so I am not sure how often it would get played if there are other options out there.

So, I think where it might offer the most usage, is in the Blind and Rust options it brings to the table, which have been getting a lot more play these days. Perhaps it gives a little bit of a chance in a shielded round, to expose some of the enemy for some faster monsters to take them out, before this one gets maggoted. Or, in the Slow rounds, it might be a decent addition, though at 9, it has a high mana, with low HP.

Still, it might be an interesting card to play around with.

The only other things I have close are:

Other than for Earth, the summoners are good enough for Gold level Brawls, though I haven't been able to successfully use them yet. Having an extra gladiator should be a decent advantage, but I am not good enough to know which and what will work well together, under different conditions. However, I am guessing that these are going to soon be appearing in Diamond and Champion leagues, as if I have this many, those top players (mostly bots these days) must have a stack.

And this is what it is going to come down to later in terms of value, as the bot players (and the few who are good enough to play manually and compete well, are going to take the majority of these soulbound cards, so that when they are unbound, they are going to flood the markets, while the people who didn't game the system, will still be lacking max versions.

The return takes longer to realize, but there will be a return in the future, where once unbound, all the people missing cards will have to be from those who have just been farming them for a couple years. Oh well.

Who knows, by then they might be worthless.

Or perhaps the mechanics will change on how they are bound or will be unbound, and then there will be a lot of cards trapped. For instance, what if it is only possible to unbind max cards, as some have mentioned might be a good idea. That means all of the bot armies will have a fair amount of "trapped" cards, where they won't be able to max them to unbind. Or perhaps, it could be that they have a higher cost to unbind the lower the BCX.

For instance, to unbind a card like this GFL I have, it will take 0.5:1 DEC:CP, so 25,000 DEC. But, if they were singles, it would take 1.5:1, so 18,750 - that might suck at times, but it would change the possible sales prices on the markets and will encourage more people to buy higher levels, which means more could compete in the higher leagues. Whatever the ratios are, there should be incentive to play the game more, not bot the game more.

I was having a flick through some of the top ranked player decks just before. Lots of max soulbound reward cards already... Oh well. At least I have one maxed and I am sure that one day, I will get another.

Hopefully a more useful one.

Congratulations on the first maxed out soul bound card. Consistency always wins and as you continue playing all will fall into place. Quicker than the lucky ones I guess HaHaha

Definitely not quicker than the lucky ones, nor the bots :)

Congratulations. I am nowhere close to maxing out any soulbound reward cards and I tend to toggle the potions off because I stay in Silver for most of the season. I tend to forget to turn that option back on for the last few days.

I am a bit interested on seeing the prices when they start getting unlocked. Would the bots still do it if it requires some DEC to unlock?

From what I have seen spoken, it would cost like 2x dec to unlock - which I think is pretty crazy. 100K DEC to unlock a GFL?

Yea, that sounds like a crazy amount to unlock a GFL. I don't think it would be in my case anyways.

Congrats on maxing out a card.

I guess my luck is negative because I don't even have any gold fold legendaries... This was the best card I got in a long time. And it seems like it has been ages since I got it.

That is a great card. I only have a single of that.

Potions don't apply to the reward card pulls do they? I am actually not surprised this was your first max'ed card. The way they drop sometimes, it is only a matter of time. I am always a bit shocked when I see my daily rewards drop and I end up with like 5 of a GF card. I almost think their algorithm is a bit messed up or something.

I think quite a few of their algos are a mess. At least, I get the feeling that there are differences in how some of the cards play. I really have very, very bad "luck" in games.

And no, potions don't apply - but I get heaps of potions and they are largely worthless, unless buying large quantities of packs. it is by far the majority of the value of my chests and EOS rewards.

I get a lot of them too. Potions I mean. Not so much cards.

Potions do apply to the chest. Unless you un-checked it in the settings. They apply them to the chances to get a GF or Legendary, like in packs.

Oh really? I thought they took that away from the reward cards. Thanks for the heads up!

Did they? Made me check and the option to not use potions for reward cards is still there.

No point really banking the potions unless you intend to buy packs. The few CL packs from the chests don't really use that many potions anyways.

I guess they back tracked on it or something.

It seems to me that it can become an excellent card. I imagine with Yodin Zaku and the sniper ruleset, it can be deadly.

The issue I have with this card is that it's too fragile for my preference. An Opportunity monster could easily eliminate it right at the beginning of the game. Additionally, as you mentioned, the Fire Splinter just isn't an ideal team for a Magic monster to thrive.

I'm certainly not someone who has good luck with RNG during battles, but I did hit the jackpot with this LGF and with an additional copy to spare! It's probably one of the best Soulbound Legendaries introduced 😍

Though, it is the only magic monster with double strike, which makes it a bit more unique at least.

There is also a legendary Dragon gladiator with double strike magic attack, Larisa Kerato I believe.

My reward luck might be a touch bit better, but sadly they have mostly been concentrated in the underwhelming soulbound Dragon legendary Berix Snakeye -- I have NINE! GFL BCX of this card. I wish I had more of Kulu in Water and Skok in Death. Oh well, sooner than later I presume. I have a pair of rares maxed out, and finally my first RF max common with 400+ BCX. Over the next month or so I'm hoping to have about 50% of the new set maxed in either RF or GF versions (though as a GF player I'm more more keen to have maxed out GF soulbound cards). Good luck to you with your fully maxed Sorrel and I wish you better luck with your rewards RNG.
