Profit or Potato?

avatar

Today's picture comes courtesy of my lunch.

I could be an influencer on Instagram.

Since I am home by myself, I decided to make a simple, baked potato lunch. My wife normally wraps them in foil before baking, which leaves the insides great, but doesn't have the crispy skin I like. Finns often don't eat the skin, which is crazy, because it is the best bit, especially with baked potatoes.

As said, it was very simple. Potatoes rubbed with olive oil and salt, baked for about 75 minutes. Sourcream with fresh chopped parsley.

If only everything was so easy.

image.png

After using a large chunk to buy Riftwatcher packs, I have been consistently adding back to my SPS stake and just today, was able to get back to the 500K mark.

image.png

I "mathed" it so it was a nice round number - because you know... as an influencer - gotta worry about how it looks. No one wants to see ragged numbers.

@relf87 was rhetorically asking himself as to what to do with GLX gains, which like me, has been converted into HIVE. The question was,

do I keep the proceeds as HIVE or SPS?

While a rhetorical question, as an influencer who posts pictures of lunch potatoes, I am qualified to give advice on this and an unlimited number of other topics, whether I have experience with them or not. But in this case, I will speak from my own personal experience and give advice that no one should follow, no matter how influential and motivating my words may be.

PSA: This is not influential advice.

You have been warned.

Okay, so for me, I am likely to keep my proceeds from GLX in HIVE, rather than convert to SPS, at least for the time being. The main reason for this is that I would like to build my hive stake up, as I have used a bit of it over the last year to get further into Splinterlands anyway. I have also used a lot of off-platform holdings too - but I want to replace the HIVE component first.

From an investment perspective, there is probably more immediate upside gain in converting to SPS, especially with the release of LAND coming one day in the near to mid- long- future - probably around Christmas - but not sure which year that will be. Land should provide a much needed sink of some sort for SPS to give reason to hold it, buy it, stake it. SPS has taken a bit of a hammering of late, which is also likely at least attributable to people converting into GLX to take advantage of a higher APR there.

I am too tired to chase APR.

I will kick myself one day, no doubt.

Note: This influencer gig is hard work.

I have been up since morning.

I live in an investment world of instability, where I am never really that sure whether what I hold is going to be Profit or Potato.

It would be good Hive app perhaps, a crypto "Hot or Not".

I am hoping that both Splinterlands and Hive do well, since I am pretty heavily invested in both of them and am planning to at least slowly, keep growing each. When the time of the bull markets roll around (will Land be released by then?), both of these "should" see their potatoiness bake into some profit, but it is all about time when it comes to this for me.

As I don't have the personal bandwidth to optimize my activities each day, week or even month, I just go with the general approach of "the future will be okay - just keep building". It might be a month away, or it might be five years away, but eventually, something will happen. And, the further away it is, the more time there is to collect, adjust, learn and earn along the way and then, when it happens, the amplitude of change can be enormous.

If after a few years of daily drips here and there went through a market run and was suddenly significantly higher value, would you change?

What would change for you?

Even in profit, I'd still be eating baked potato.

I bake the potato, smash it and fry it along with browned onions and of course add salt and a bit of red chilly powder.

That potato is so hot it could be in "behind the scenes" content.

I just reached 7k today.

Damn it... Should have put it on my OnlyFans, behind a paywall.

Let's see the SPS value in a year from now :)

Now I'm thinking, maybe you should be a potato farmer?

Maybe I should be a potato farmer.

Together, we will rule the 7k potatoes.

I will speak from my own personal experience and give advice that no one should follow.

This is the best part of advice.
Meanwhile life itself it either a potato or a profit which ever comes enjoy it and life goes on. Those who take risk make success and those who don't take it make risk too risky.

I have invested into lots of potatoes - i should have bought a farm.

And that's why you're at the best position to give advice. You have got lots of personal experience which is the farm which we talk about.

These were quite large -200C for the most part - 215C the last 15 mins.
I have no idea what those temps are in "crazy measurement system" :)

HIVE.

SPS is now the most inflated token with everything rewarding SPS and not enough use case other than yield, which is not sustainable without new money.

It needs Land, as I assume it will be used there to, right?

Don’t you get more SPS for staking in land? Or you are saying SPS is burned using land?

I think it is going to be used for upgrades and stuff as well.

So buying land and lose more SPS? 😅

Might as well keep SPS

There must be some reason for SPS, right?

(Edited)

Markets among different tokens will arbitrage itself.

SPS to purchase pre-release, pump up temporary then fall back down.

SPS to craft stuff will also converge to equilibrium to the value of the items crafted and traded.

Yield and market value will continue to drop as more and more SPS get minted and not much taken away.

It’s a tricky business. How do you keep the existing people happy with the return, while keep the game accessible for new comers?

And yes, this is the main reason for Hive. Percentage wise, I can increase SPS faster than I can with Hive.

Sure they are going to do massively well once we switch to bullish trend generally

75 mins for baked potatoes @ 200 Degrees. That seems kinda long but if it gives a super crispy skin, I might need to remember the next time I cook. The fam loves all things potatoes :)

Did you hear the latest townhall? Yaba dropped 3 interesting new concepts.
1: Burning DEC on a land plot before reveal, to increase chance of revealing high quality.
2: Guild Alliances, maybe even shared buildings between allied guilds.
3: Next and future reward cards will be Soulbound like gladiators.

0

Guild alliances at least make sense. I don't like soulbound cards - it is like buying a car that is bound to your house, to sell it, you lose the house. If I had known things were going to be soulbound, I wouldn't have bound them to my house, I would have bound them to an empty, useless block of land with low value.

avatar

Current reward cards will stay liquid, but future editions will be soulbound. So anything you've bought, you'll be able to sell; some of the things you earn going forward (reward cards) will stay on the account, to help it win more of the other, liquid rewards.

0
0
0.000
avatar

I don't see soulbound as owned assets, as I am unable to move them as I choose. This is fine, but it is not very great as an investment for me, as they are forever trapped, since I will never sell my Hive account, nor let anyone play it.

Should have used an alt....

You won't be able to buy them, so I guess you're investing your time; but that's it.

The other question is - where is the benefit of SPS in all of this?

0
0
0.000
avatar

DEC sinks benefit SPS, as once DEC goes over the soft peg, people who want to spend SPS on packs, will burn it to generate new DEC and spend the DEC on packs.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Will that demand ever be strong enough to make a significant increase compared to the inflation?

0
0
0.000
avatar

That's the plan, DEC faucets are being switched off all over the place. It's just a question of how long it'll take.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Hmmm.. Yeah, I also have a small bit of holdings and I don't really know either if I want hive or sps😅 why does life have to be so indecisive about little things? Perhaps justt peg it back to dollars🏃 but that would be stupid seeing everything is low.... Mehh Both seems good... As you said sps have been taking a hammering

One of my favourite meals is baked potatoes in hot coals. Can't do it this time of year in SA due to fire ban, but in the winter months... Oooh boy!

  1. Light and feed bonfire for a few hours
  2. When you've got a nice pile of glowing red coals, part them with a shovel to expose the ground underneath
  3. Chuck in foil-wrapped spuds
  4. Cover back over with the red hot goals
  5. Leave to cook for an hour
  6. Don't add any more wood to fire during this time
  7. Remove from coals, unwrap, add toppings
  8. Profit

While baked spuds are good no matter how they're done, this method adds a beautiful flavour. And you get the convivial campfire setting too. Great for having friends around.

Now what's all this about investing...? 😛

One of my favourite meals is baked potatoes in hot coals.

These are great! It has been many, many years since I have had them...

At some point, when we get the garden going, I would like a decent firepit to do some open-fire cooking. One of my favorite breads is damper - but I am Australian ;D

Sometimes I get the sense that SA has no rules, so this is surprising :D

Oh yes, damper! So good done the traditional way as well.

Yeah nah, lots of rules in South Australia. Can't argue with fire ban in the driest months though, personally. Too easy to accidentally burn down your yard, your house, your town, your whole regional area... :/ lol

Hehe! I see my name tagged!

I am currently keeping the sold GLX as Hive because one gets SWAP.HIVE by selling on Tribaldex. I am also leaning towards Hive these days as it is more straightforward. After being on Hive for a while, I realise APR is overrated. One only realises that APR if they were to divest the airdrops/gains at that very day. And the issue is, the principal takes a few weeks to be unstaked and often, a lot of the value is lost from there when the value of the coin declines.

APR is normally some useless token, so all it can really get is, sold.

Taking profits is never a bad idea and I would never reject a good potato. I just don't think SPS is doing what people expect it to do because DEC is under the peg. There isn't any point to burn SPS for DEC and the best they have done so far for SPS utility is staking or for purchases.
