Rebel At Start

Well, not exactly a smashing success compared to set releases during a bull market, but nonetheless, not too bad considering global circumstances.

Wouldn't it be nice if these kinds of events always coincided with ATHs on the markets?

I was in the running for a "Dawnbringer" Title - but not for long. I suspect I will be out of the top 100 by the end of the presale. Not that it matters. The Titles (for me) are pretty meaningless, though they bring boosts to Land - which is why mine are meaningless, as my Land is crap.

Presale also comes with two cards on offer, which will only be available with presale packs and won't be found in the general release packs. The artwork and framing design has changed a bit, giving a bit more space to the image.

GRIMBARDUN SMITH is going to be "pretty common" as it is a rare card and will be given in every ten packs purchased with a 4% chance of a gold foil, but a guaranteed gold foil for every 250 packs. It is quite an interesting card, as even though it has no attack, it has armor, void armor and can repair itself. It also can take a bit of a beating and can't be poisoned. As a neutral and with Almo soon to be taken out of Modern, it is likely to be an interesting card.

MANTAROTH on the other hand is going to be much rarer, as there is a 1% chance of receiving one on the purchased packs, so about 5000, with about 200 of them gold. And then one guaranteed for every 100 packs, one gold for every 2500. Again, with shield and shield repair, it is going to be interesting. However, it also has the new "armored strike" ability, which gives it +1 melee based on the shield score. I guess this means it dynamically changes throughout the fight, kind of like an "enrage". With blast too, depending on what it goes up against, it could be devastating.

I have no idea what the Rebellion set is going to be like, but I am pretty much only able to play in Modern anyway. The value of my deck has been decimated due to Untamed and Dice being retired to Wild soon, and without Land released, there is nothing soaking up the market. With 96 cards in the Rebellion set, I am sure there are going to be a fair amount of duds.

However, the staking mechanism for packs and cards in order to get future airdrop cards is an interesting mechanism. Because, not only will it take cards off the rental market to make those that are there a little more pricey, it will also be a place to park the crappier cards. This means that they don't need to be dumped on the market, or rented for next to nothing, and can instead be put to work earning something, without having to be on Land - where they have so little PP anyway.

The new summoners are set to be gamechangers however, because with their enhanced tactics, they bring a whole new layer to the game and especially in the top tiers, there might not be as many of them floating about at max.

Hopefully though, this new pack gives enough of a an injection into the game to cover some of the maintenance and development, as well as reduce the DEC supply to a point that people will start burning some SPS. Though, that is a long way a way by the looks.

The Presale has been live for two hours now and is scheduled to run for 30 days, or until the first 500K packs sell through.

image.png

While they have gone "relatively" quickly at the start, I suspect it will slow down a lot from here and may not sell all the way through. This means that whatever is left over at the end of the thirty days, will be burned. However, since the price of the packs is the same in Presale as the Open sale, it could be that people do end up taking advantage of getting a few extra bonus cards now, rather than waiting until after, as there is no reason to wait if going to buy anyway.

Unfortunately, 2300 packs is nowhere near enough to get a max set of Rebellion (I hear it is around 3500 packs), so it is going to be a very slow climb to get them up to Championship levels. However, at least I might be able to play some of them in Gold Brawls, even though I play on the Wild side there at the moment.

Once the cards are released, I think this set is going to have an immediate impact on gameplay and completely shift the strategies. It could be even that depending on the power creep, it might be possible that some of them are suitable in Wild also, and could compete with the older cards. It will be interesting at least.

Did you are will you buy?

I was only able to buy 25 packs. Nowhere near what I have done in the past. I didn't realize this was coming though and of course the bear...

Yeah. It was a surprise. I thought this was slated for 2024 - yet here we are...

That's awesome. Buying 2300 packs is already a lot, and I've seen a lot people in a group buy a ton. YGG is currently in the lead, but there is still a lot of packs available. Considering that we are still in a bear market, selling half of the pre-sale packs on the first day is already a big achievement. Some are saying that since it didn't sell out immediately, others that want the top perks of creating the cards might wait till the end to buy more.

Yeah, YGG always buy a lot as they have so many players in their guilds. They probably need to buy more.

Yeah. There might be a bit of a battle at the end for the final six spots perhaps.

Those impending changes to the game is making me excited yet scared at the same time 😅
Rebellion is definitely set to drastically change the game dynamics!

Yep! It is a bit "scary" in the sense that it opens it right up in modern in some ways, but closes it in others as Untamed are taken away. competition might be hard.

I joined after Untamed so that part wouldn't affect me as bad as you guys!
But yeah the rest of the changes especially for a small time player that isn't investing as much into the game is really scary! Just when I thought I caught up a little to the rest, the game seems to be pulling away from me again! 😅

I started at DIce. It is a constant struggle - and I am not sure if I will be able to keep up, let alone make a priofit! :D

Well at this point, I just want to enjoy the game and not think about the profits.
Dwelling in that is just pretty depressing at this point, as with all other investments right now 😢😂

I decided to withdraw 400 HBD from my savings earlier today. If it's still there by the time that the funds go through, I might buy 100 packs. However, I am wondering if that will happen. Close to 300k packs have already been sold.

Yeah - at the halfway mark of 250 in the first 24 hours, so that isn't too shabby!

I have 170+HBD . But I don't know what to do. On one hand I want to buy to keep up with other players. On the other hand my luck sucks so it might be better to keep sparrow in hand(HBD) and leave elk in the woods( packs).

Renting i also a possibility - because then you can just pick and choose the "proven" good cards.

I know a lot of people will acquire so many packs during this pre-sale season
I will also buy some or let me say the amount of cards that I can afford

I am guessing where you find the time to dig deep in more games :D
I am truly fascinated about your time management and would love to read an article about it!

First of all: how many hours do you find enough for sleeping?

I didn't buy any packs. I plan to buy/rent them second-hand. I have imagined lots of use cases for Grimbardum Smith considering the weapons training feature of soulbound cards. It is harder for me to imagine what to do with Mantaroth.

Getting them off the secondary markets is smart. However, in order to get them off there, some idiot has to buy, right? I am that idiot :D

Mantaroth is going to be hard to play I think. It doesn't seem clear exactly how it is going to react and, there are a lot of giant killer cards now.

I am an idiot too :) As I am poor nowadays, I could not buy any packs.

Most of you were right after all. I woke up this morning in Asia time, which was 5 hours after the launch of the pre-sale, it wasn't sold out and was still around. Anyway, I just bought 1 pack for the fun of it and to show some support - the price of DEC was so good that I sold off the rest of my DEC instead. On hindsight, it would have been cheaper to buy that one pack from the secondary market since there's no airdrop legendary cards this time, i.e. no incentive to buy from Splinterlands unless I buy at least 10 packs.

Congrats on your buy mate. I was hoping to be able to afford 1150 packs as part of a group buy, but in the end, I could only scrounge up the DEC for 300 packs. Oh well.

I guess I will have to lean on guildmates like yourself to power up my two promos to max level to play in Champ League. Don't forget about me when the airdrops get distributed in early December!

Of course, maybe I will take the chance to sell another high-priced Magic card or two to get me over the hump. Ultimately, I bought the 300 packs to take a small step forward to help support the company. Like I've said previously, it was likely in my best interest to avoid the pack sale entirely and just focus my DEC stack on buying individual maxed cards when the set releases. But that would not have any real tangible effect for the company, so I decided to bite the bullet and buy some for myself.

After all, WTF am I supposed to do with 15,000 potions anyways. I gotta scratch the itch at least a little bit!
