Unforced Errors

Unforced error
noun
a mistake in play that is attributed to one's own failure rather than to the skill or effort of one's opponent.

The last couple seasons I have managed to scrape into Champion 2, but this season, I am struggling to make it into C3 as essentially...

I am playing like shit!

image.png

I don't know what it is this season, but I am making so many unforced errors and the only thing in the equation is me - sure, I am being outplayed too, but the thing that stands out is my own sheer incompetence at choosing the right team - I am having streams of 8-10 losses in a row and even as I am choosing the lineup, I am looking at it and asking myself...

WTF am I doing?

I think that this is mostly due to the treatment I had last week, as it takes a lot of my energy and thinking power for about a week after, with a constant headache between - but damn, it is having a large effect.

A couple days ago, I decided that instead of minimizing games this season, I would experiment a little and play a lot - since I have a couple extra hours in the evening to play and - I am home for the weekend too, which seems rare. So - Here I am pounding away at games - losing far more than I am winning, but having annoyed and frustrated fun along the way.

I am not sure I am learning anything other than how much I suck this season, but I have noticed that there are some slight changes in gameplay, where people are better able to counter my "usual suspect" win setups. And, since the name is withheld until the team is submitted, I don't think that they are picking "me" in particular - which makes for an interesting change in the dynamics.

In the past, it was possible to guess what lineup someone was going to play, but now there is more the "put your best team forward" and hope for the best approach - which plays well into the hands of people like @abh12345 who I have lost to several times already this morning. This is the most annoying part of it!

But, while I understand why this change was made, I also think it is not necessarily a good thing, as it is kind of like in sport, not being able to see the opposing team ever play before - always going in blind. At the top levels where there are only a few players, this makes a massive difference as you never know if you are going to play an old-timer with a complete early edition set, or someone like me - who's set is patchy. It makes a difference.

I really should just get my ass back into Champions3 and call it a season so that I am not completely screwed for the next season, but you know, I probably won't do that and at this rate, I will be starting from Bronze3 instead. I have been playing whilst writing too, which isn't conducive to great decisions, but we are heading out for a coffee as a family in a few minutes, so that should at least break my "stare bear" style of play today.

Like when I write, I like to observe my behavior under various conditions and this season has definitely shown how difficult it can be during this week after treatment. I feel it in my work too, but there is nothing that can really be done about it, so it is essentially "stiff upper lip" it until it passes. There are far more important things than a Splinterlands season, but it is good to get the perspective on how affected my thinking is.'

Right - the sun is shining and the world away from the screen awaits. Maybe with a break, I will come back with a fresh mind and motivation and hopefully with a little luck, I will be able to cut down on my unforced errors!

It's definitely good to know how treatment affects your brain. It can even change one's personality completely in extreme cases :(

Yes it does. Over the last decade, I have so many issues that have changed who I am in quite profound ways. I am still me, but not sure what that means anymore :)

It sounds like you are trying to find out :) I hope you will adjust well to this recent change.

I am trying. Perhaps that is the meaning of life - to find out who we are.

A famous footballer suffered an injury and he had to undergo surgery and a long rest for the second season of the year.

After everything went smoothly, he returned to training to restore his fitness and body shape. The first season of the following year is ready to be re-entered. However, he did not tell his coach that he did not feel alone when training with his team. In training he encountered several unforce errors.

It became a burden on himself, his good name was at stake in all the matches. Then he went to his team psychologist and told him how he felt. He was relieved after receiving some suggestions.

Long story short, when the first game was over. His coach whispered to him that for the performance of a man recovering from an injury, you played very well. You only need to be on the field and 1 game. Then you will return to the way you used to be.

I intentionally didn't mention the name of the football player, I'm afraid you're not a fan of him.

Keep trying, sir. In a few moments, you will be back to your old self again.

I don't follow football at all, so it doesn't really matter who the player is - but if I am not a fan of his, what does it matter?

At some point, I will accept that I have changed so much that I will never be my old self again - but I am not giving up just yet :)

I really like and respect people who never give up. It will confirm that their positive energy will always be there. You are one of those who always have a lot of positive energy in your life. I always look forward to your posts.

Since we're talking about games, sometimes when I have battles in space I see scenery and nature different from what we know, it's really real and seen by technology? or it's just virtual galaxies

I am currently in Bronze II. Good, if I reach Bronze I. My current max tier is Silver III, but nowadays I very rarely reach that.

Good luck and have fun.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Are there any key cards that you think you are missing?

It seems to be getting hard again - like it is time to pivot and try some alternative tactics.

Enjoy your Sunday afternoon!

Are there any key cards that you think you are missing?

Probably. A few good cards. Maybe renting them for a few days would help. Otherwise it would not be this hard to reach the Silver III league.

For a good start, there should be some good break to gain some positive synergy which will give you more productivity after the break to start with.

Yeah, I should break a bit more - but I am killing some time and brain cells :)

No way I can break into Champion this early in the season. Last 48 hours is my only window. Before then the competition's brutal. Perhaps you're just climbing faster than normal.

Last season I was there on the first day playing , (8 days left in season) and then struggled for C2 - but now struggling to stay in C3 far more than I should. Losing games I should be winning easily. Not seeing the player makes a difference too.

I should take a couple days off and let the competition get ahead a bit.

Unforced Errors @tarazkp Sir
You are right in saying that this is the first point you have mentioned in my mind. In fact, every one of your points makes sense. Do not want to admit your own failure. If we accept our own failures and find our own mistakes in the game, success will surely come. Thank you so much for agreeing on each of your points.

As I have said before, you are good at finding time from being Dady-daughter to playing Splinterlands. However, you should consider that those might affect your health status.

My health is a mess anyway perhaps - is it worth getting slightly healthier from this close to the bottom? :D

Yea it is worth :) I don't think so, an unhealthy person would not be able to post at least one post in a day on HIVE :)

However, I somehow feel that you spend too much time in front of PC/Laptop.

you should not feel bad- This season I really struggled to get to gold 3. Now I have 98 wins from 172 battles. Perhaps your success is also right around the corner.
