Wounds of redemption
Looking for redemption?
Well, you have come to the wrong place. Here, you will only find....
Death!
A few weeks ago @Azircon mentioned that people generally showcase their wins, and this is true for me too, but there are just so many losses to choose from that it is impossible to make a decision - but tonight, it was easy.
I rarely get it right when it comes to playing a combination of "weaken" with "redemption", but tonight I got it right.
Almost
This was the challenger:
This was the lineup:
As you can see, I went with Thaddius on top, something I normally don't play because I would normally go with Owster too. Though, it wouldn't have mattered. As whilethe lineup is near identical, I made one small, but critical error.
Can you spot it?
Yes, as you can see, I do like Owster because he has magic reflect and that means, I want to "Amplify" it as much as I can. Problem is.... I played Venari Spellsmith with Amplify, but what the hell is he amplifying? I have no reflect!! However, he does carry a redemption. This is a 4 Mana max battle, so in its place, the challenger had another ability that I love, but I normally use in the Earth Splinter with Screeching Vulture and Dr Blight - "Scavenger".
I have a Blight, but so do they.
So, once all the buffs were applied, the lineup looked like this.
They have:
3x weaken
2x redemption
I have:
4x weaken (with Thaddius)
3x redemption
In with a chance?
No.

The very first hit was their Death Elemental sniping my Life Sapper and from there, it started a chain reaction. That one hit with reduced magic, took out 10 of 12 cards in the battle, leaving two. My Undead Priest and their Riftwing. The problem is of course though, their Riftwing had scavenged the fuck out of the dying cards and even though it has no attack, my Undead Priest is magic and, they used Owster soooo....
It my Priest literally reflected itself to death.
Like a bird flying into a mirror.
Why the hell didn't it dodge the other bird!!
Even if I hadn't have put Spellsmith in, I still wouldn't have put Riftwing. But, having been on the receiving end of this battle, I now know what Riftwing is good for, as I have not really played it much and never used it in this way.
Play to Earn
Die and Learn
Well, I think that is enough of a lesson from that battle, but I think it is useful to see how much impact one little card can make, with the right summoner in play.
Did you learn something or are you just shaking your head and saying...
Why the fuck would you play Spellsmith!?!

“But for heaven's sake — you're wizards! You can do magic! Surely you can sort out — well — anything!” Scrimgeour turned slowly on the spot and exchanged an incredulous look with Fudge, who really did manage a smile this time as he said kindly, “The trouble is, the other side can do magic too, Prime Minister.”
… The Other Minister…
I think you might remember this part. One of my favorite first chapters. So relevant in your battle and the present world ...
This is not what I was expecting as a comment!! :D
You know Tarazkp; I'd reckon the issue was playing DEATH. I avoid the DEATH splinter at all costs, and the LIFE splinter too, in fact (Well, unless the Splinterlands Weekly Challenge is a Chaos Knight, but you, that's different).
Do you often play Death? I dunno, I really am a WATER man, with a strong feeling for EARTH, and a growing love of FIRE.
Look, I get that might be because I'm in Silver league - is Death more the go-to place to be when you progress higher up, or is it the 4 mana cap that you felt pushed you into Death?
Tim
I don't have a complete deck with Fire being my weakest and then water. It is a bit better now with CL cards, but I have to rent a lot. For me, I play a fair bit of earth, dragon (kitty) and death and a bit of life. I get creamed a lot, because there are so many holes in my deck and my skill! :D
In this case, it was the 4 MANA cap which made me try for a redemption sweep. However, the options weren't great for my 4 mana decs in the others. If I didn't try for this, I would have gone life instead. I also don't mind Earth for low Mana rounds. Doctor, vulture, queen, failed summoner, khmer princess, parasitic growth, venari scout. There is some speed in there, some shield, some scavenge, some reflect, some thorns (I'd likely go with Mylor).
I tend to approach the 4 Mana with Kelya - figuring the extra speed/armour ain't a bad thing to have. This 3 mana guy becomes a pretty good tank - and then I use the 4 Mana Pelacar's SNEAK, with the 4 Mana Uraeus on SNEAK also. Given the Uraeus gets poison ability at Level 4, I'd call him a keeper - but if nothing else, in Silver, those 2 cards are +4 Melee - depending on how the LIFE cards are lined up, it'd be enough to start dropping the support line quick enough, while hopefully the Cruel Sethropod is still alive and kicking in the front. In truth though, I can't remember how much I win/lose in the 4 mana ruleset, so I may not be the best judge. Either way, this guy is super cheap to build into a decent 3 mana tank:
That us an option too, but death has some fast magic also, making the armour useless and with weaken, it doesn't take too much to take them out. At the rvd of the day though, luck in what the other person plays matters also. I do have a max CL deck, but the problem at the top leagues are, many have very full decks across all sets.
Holy shit! not even using figurines, screenshots and doodles in a highly graphic manner throughout a very eloquent explanation in this post, will I be able to understand how this thing actually works. Everything looks to me like an even steeper learning curve and uphill battle than trying to learn to use Blender running on an old 286 PC. Hahahaha
If not interested to learn it, just skip reading the posts at all. Spend the time on something you are interested in.
That's the thing, that the only way to learn something that we are not interested in, is to continue reading the posts that talk about it to see if we at least understand something. Hahahaha
Fair enough, but it has been six months of similar comments, so perhaps it isn't for you?
Six months? Well, perhaps because it's the time that has transcurred since you decided to start play the game. And you and your posts were my last hope that I could understand something of the dynamics of the game.
Yeah! seems like it isn't for me. But I will never lose hope that I can learn from you. };)
Riftwing is such an innocuous looking card but it's far from that. I grabbed myself a L8 GF one a while back. It rents very well! Look at those abilities.. hitting directly is not the only viable way of winning.
I should play it more to test!
Interesting, maxing a gold is only 20% more than maxing a regular.
Its quite common, I always check this.
I normally do too, but haven't bought much of late in way of CL. been looking at other cards hoping for deals on what I can play. I have a full CL deck of regulars at least.
Its all about Summoners for me, same with @revisesociology!
Yep. I have been eyeing a few. I only have 8 plots though, so assuming one summoner a plot, I don't need as many :)
