I lost out with the DEC crash and on little used hive coin could have saved me

I was holding only a big pile of DEC waiting for vouchers to buy Chaos Packs.

Then DEC price tanked and my $4000 USD and 1000 packs crumbled to far less

Looking back I know what I should have done but didn't do. Here's a little breakdown so others don't make the same mistake!

I love Crypto, I love Hive and I love DEC and Splinterlands. I see it could be a game changer in the future. Why else would I transfer in $4000 in order to buy cards? However, I miscalculated. While I love crypto I don't really love its volatility. $4000 today is no guarantee of $4000 tomorrow!

And cards are priced in US Dollars. DEC can be converted to USD, so can SPS, Hive and other crypto's but no guarantee the exchange rate I'm going to get

What should I have done?

I should have held my value in Hive Backed Dollars (HBD). In that way I could have guaranteed the $4000 I needed to buy the cards. Could have supported the Hive infrastructure and made 10% interest while holding the coins!

Honestly though... While I knew about HBD I didn't really think about it while playing the game. It seems that I'm not the only one. I was going through my PeakD feed and found my name mentioned in a post and this came up :

A Richlist for HBD and less than $100 would place you in the top 10 holders. Obviously not many people are using it. A shame really because with packs being based on the USD holding a stablecoin to buy packs with seems like it could be a good play.

At least for a portion of my crypto investment at least.

Sure there are unlocking times and conversion times but there are always workarounds for that.

In the meantime,

Happy Hunting!
