[ Chaos Knight ] - Share Your Battle! Weekly Challenge

(Edited)

My first challenge of the week!
Theme and card of the week is Chaos Knight

Thoughts: This was really a challenge for me, as I really am unsure how to really win with this card. With the decks I seem to see my opponents play, it is pretty hard for me to not choose the Shieldbearer when playing a Life deck nowadays.

Opponents seem to often use Opportunity or Sneak cards which really entices me to use a Taunt to protect the many low health ranged damage dealers that Life deck often uses.

Team Composition

Role: Summoner

Probably the summoner that defines the Life decks currently. His (+1) to ranged attacks really boosts the Life cards that came along with the Chaos Legion update, like Pelacor Arbalest.

I picked him so I can make use of those ranged damage dealers in my deck

Role: Tank

Our card of the week, the first in position and a generally decent tank on paper.

It has really balanced/spread out stats across the board coming along with a Shield ability to dampen the melee and ranged damage. Although I feel like 6 mana might be expensive.

Role: Ranged Attacker, Healer

A card which I liked to use whenever I have a tank on the team. She has both ranged attacks and the ability to heal the frontline for 2 HP.

I placed her second as she had lower damage, decent HP and there's also the fact there wasn't anyone else to really heal on the team other than Chaos Knight.

Role: Debuff (Slow), Gap

This a card I had particularly liked to use before the Chaos Legion update as it reduces the other speed for just 1 mana. Not only that, it manages as the Gap, and also a card to block at least one hit to let my damage dealers survive a bit longer.

Not sure why but since the Chaos Legion update, it doesn't seem as impactful as before.

Role: Ranged Attacker (Damage Dealer)

This card, together with General Sloan, shaped how the Life deck looks like now. Their synergy brought lots of damage to the team with their abilities.

I placed him near the back to keep him alive as long as possible and allowed another card with higher HP to block the backstab damage instead.

Role: Ranged Attacker (Damage Dealer)

This is a card I had rented from the market before I embarked on this challenge.

With a great base damage and the Blast ability, she would deal lots of damage to both the targeted card and also the second-in-line. I feel like she would be helpful in clearing fodders on the opposing team.

I placed her at the back to tank the backstabs with her armour and HP.

Strategy Talk

Life decks since the Chao Legion update seemed to have to taken a turn towards to heavy ranged attacks given the arrival of General Sloan and his (+1) ranged attacks.

Looking at the opponent's history, I noticed him playing a couple of Water, Death and Dragon(Earth) decks. I thought I could get away with playing my ranged Life deck by showing off the Prismologist and her Blast ability. Unluckily, the opponent used an Earth magic deck against me, resulting in Chaos Knight being not fully utilised here.

In this battle, I tried to focus on outdamaging the opponent while Chaos Knight stalls for some time. Unfortunately, if you have followed the battles above, the card of the match, Regal Peryton, seemed to have dodged its way to victory. My 2 ranged attackers could do nothing against a high speed and Flying card. Hence, the opponent just took a little time to whittle down my team.

Chaos Knight is a pretty good tank against melee and ranged attackers. The card, and the deck would probably not face well against Earth magic decks due to the rendered useless armour.

Since I had lost, it would be hard for me to give tips however, I would still recommend managing some more meatshields/fodders placed before the ranged damage dealers. Otherwise, I think I would try another strategy to deploy melee attackers with Mother Khala as the summoner instead, maybe adding a Truthspeaker or a Silvershield Knight for fun. An overall tanky melee build.

Thanks for reading!

In this post I am still trying out a new format using the battle log, instead of actually narrating the process. I hope it isn't too hard to read. I wouldn't mind some feedback on it.

It was fun to experiment and learn how to play the card I don't usually play. We keep on going. Cheers.
