[ Chaos Knight ] - Share Your Battle! Weekly Challenge (2)

(Edited)

My second challenge of the week!
Theme and card of the week is Chaos Knight

Thoughts: This was really a challenge for me, as I really am unsure how to really win with this card. With the decks I seem to see my opponents play, it is pretty hard for me to not choose the Shieldbearer when playing a Life deck nowadays.

On my previous challenge with Chaos Knight (https://ecency.com/hive-13323/@tertius/chaos-knight-share-your-battle), I lost while trying a ranged attacker deck with it. So in this second challenge, I will experiment with a melee attack build instead!

Opponents seem to often use Opportunity or Sneak cards which really entices me to use a Taunt to protect the many low health ranged damage dealers that Life deck often uses.

Team Composition

Role: Summoner

A pretty decent summoner that gives a (+1) HP to all ally monsters. This does allow for a more versatile pick to allow for a generally more beefy team.

Role: Tank

Our card of the week, the first in position and a generally decent tank on paper.

It has really balanced/spread out stats across the board coming along with a Shield ability to dampen the melee and ranged damage. Although I feel like 6 mana might be a little expensive.

You should avoid using this card if you see the opponent has a history of using magic attacks.

Role: Secondary Tank, Reach

A card I like to use whenever I try a melee Life deck. It has decent stats along with 2 abilities; Reach and Flying.

Reach will allow it to attack from the second position and Flying will grant more evasion. It has similar capabilities with the Regal Peryton (Earth), which has been crucial in defeating me previously, hence I am hoping for the Eage to be somewhat similar.

Role: (Inspire) Buffer

This is a card that will give my melee deck the edge on the field. A (+1) melee attack buff for allies will definitely aid well in the overall damage.

Placed him 3rd as he also has some nice stats to at least tank some good damage, not to mention his inability to strike from afar.

Role: Opportunity

A cheap card which has the Opportunity ability to hit low health enemies from any position.

Her melee attack synergises well with the Inspire buff which allows her to hit harder.

Role: Magic Attacker, Debuff (Slow)

A card I seem to see Life deck players use often. It reminds me of the Creeping Ooze that was used before the Chaos Legion update. Except that this comes along with magic attack as well. I am also expecting an armoured tank on the opposing team so I think she will do well.

Placed her near the back to keep the slow effect in the field longer.

Role: Backline Hitter, Sneak

A rather decent card as it has 2 melee attack damage and the ability Sneak. I was thinking of using Uraeus before seeing this card.

Placed it at the back as it can hit from anywhere and it also has an okay amount of HP to shield against some backstabs.

Strategy Talk

Life decks since the Chao Legion update seemed to have to taken a turn towards to heavy ranged attacks given the arrival of General Sloan and his (+1) ranged attacks. Before the update, I was using Mother Khala like I did in this challenge, using a similar style of lineup and attacking as well.

Looking at the opponent's history, I noticed him playing a couple of Life and Water decks, hence I was quite confident in getting usefulness out of Chaos Knight (due to the usual ranged from Life and melee from Water decks) and also pulling off my lineup that I wanted to use for the challenge.

In this battle, I tried to focus on laying down as much damage as I can using both Silvershield Knight's Inspire buff and also the Reach, Opportunity and Sneak abilities to hit from multiple positions.

Chaos Knight is a pretty good tank against melee and ranged attackers. The card, and the deck would probably not face well against Earth magic decks due to the rendered useless armour.

This time, I had triumphed with my tanky melee build, with added buffs. I can't say melee build would be the better way to go while playing Chaos Knight but this was what had worked for the time being. All I can really recommend is that you should observe the opponent's history and avoid playing Chaos Knight whenever you notice a pattern of the opponent playing a magic attacker.

Thanks for reading!

In this post I am still trying out a new format using the battle log, instead of actually narrating the process. I hope it isn't too hard to read. I wouldn't mind some feedback on it.

It was fun to experiment and learn how to play the card I don't usually play. We keep on going. Cheers.
