[ Dragons ] - Share Your Battle! Weekly Challenge

First challenge of the week!
Theme of the week is Dragons.

Thoughts: The Dragon decks are always unpredictable to me, in the sense that they may play melee, ranged, or magic damage through the usage of the other elements they add to their decks. However, one thing that seems to be consistent is the existence of Djinn Chwala as the tank in their decks. Well, at least in the lower ranks that happens.

Standard:

No modification to the standard gameplay rules and mechanics.

Mana cost: 23

Usable elements: All

Team Composition

Role: Summoner

The go-to Dragon summoner, or rather, what people would probably be forced to play as it is the only free Summoner available for Dragon decks. Still, the (+1) Armor would still prove to be decently useful.

Role: Tank

The first in position and NOT Djinn Chwala? Due to the lack of mana, I chose a cheap tank, with pretty good health for its mana cost, although the other stats are lacking.

Role: Damage Dealer, All-Rounder

The card that makes my Dragons deck really a Dragon deck. I borrowed this ultimate monster of a card from a friend.

Although it takes up 14 mana, in return it provides great stats all around. Not to mention it deals magic damage AND have 2 abilities - Flying and Scattershot.

Role: Secondary Damage Dealer

Probably the cheapest magic damage dealer on the Earth decks. I wanted more magic damage dealers on my team to deal with high armour enemies, hence I pulled in her.

Play by play

> Round 1:

Start of the battle. My opponent, too, used up all 23 mana to put out Drake of Arnak (4) leading the Djinn Chwala (8), Regal Peryton (5), Goblin Psychic (6) in corresponding order.

Regal Peryton, being the fastest in the battle, stuck my Hill Giant for 1 damage, bypassing armour. Chaos Dragon says hi as it fired a Scattershot which conveniently hit Goblin Psychic, who goes down without doing anything.

Djinn Chwala took action and destroyed Hill Giant's armour. Khmer Princess landed 1 magic damage on Djinn Chwala. Hill Giant then ended the round by shaving off 1 armour from Chwala and got retaliated by the Thorns ability, which reduces his HP down to 3.

> Round 2:

Peryton starts the round off again, making Hill Giant's HP go to 2. Chaos Dragon starts taking off 3 HP from Peryton. Chwala then promptly removed Hill Giant from the field.

With Hill Giant retiring off the field, Chaos Dragon takes the frontline and Khmer Princess sends another attack on Chwala, leaving him at (7 HP | 5 Armour)

> Round 3:

It is starting to look like a rally of attacks now. Peryton made first contact by taking the first HP off Chaos Dragon. Unfortunately, Chaos Dragon targetted Chwala again and reduced him down to 4 HP.

Chwala starts chipping off armour from Chaos Dragon, while Khmer Princess takes off another HP from Chwala. Making both enemies on the opposing deck at 3 HP. One shot from Chaos Dragon will finish any of them.

> Round 4:

Peryton fires off another attack on Chaos Dragon, putting him down to only (8 HP | 3 Armour). Chaos Dragon finishes off Chwala before he got to do anything. Khmer Princess ended the round with a 1 magic damage when Peryton is forced to the frontlines.

> Round 5:

Peryton made a meaningless attack on Chaos Dragon as Chaos Dragon finishes the job quickly.

Strategy Talk

Playing Dragons is pretty much playing with all elements, and ultimately you have to try to strategise by looking at the opponent's past decks. You cannot rely on countering the opponent using your summoner's ability with playing, well at least it is unlikely with Drake of Arhak.

Looking at the opponent's history, I noticed he pretty much played Dragons in his whole row of battles. What I know is that he plays the typical Dragon card - Djinn Chwala. This gives me ideas on what to do next.

In this battle, since he has a (+1) Armour effect coming with the Summoner, and his likely Dragon card - Djinn Chwala, I knew I had to play some magic damage dealers to deal with them both.

Chaos Dragon really carried me in this battle, seeing how the opponent, too used a Dragons deck with an Earth element add-on, it was pretty much a mirror match, till I pulled out the big guns - Chaos Dragon.

Generally my magic damage dealing strategy worked out well as I managed to bypass their armour and also out damage them, which as a result ended in my win. I am probably going to try something else next time.

Thanks for reading!

It was fun to play around with this element as this was the least used element in my battles. We keep on going. Cheers.
