[ Lava Spider ] - Share Your Battle! Weekly Challenge

First challenge of the week!
Theme and card of the week is Lava Spider

Thoughts: Lava Spider was a card I thought to be a little less desirable in this current meta, or rather, there are better cards to be placed in the deck. It had a similar counterpart - Fire Beetle, which I previously used a lot. Before the Chaos Legion update, it was used pretty often, when there was low mana or you want to play quantity.

Now, with the addition of Tarsa the Summoner and other synergy cards to be played alongside her, Lava Spider ended up neglected.

Team Composition

Role: Summoner

A generally great summoner to be used. With a (+1) to melee attack and (+1) to health, it is versatile and often the favoured choice over Pyre, its other free Fire summoner.

I chose Tarsa since we were given 22 mana, which is a decent amount, this means if I went for more melee attack cards, I stand to gain a lot more benefits from her.

Role: Tank

The first in position and pretty much the mainstream tank you will see and with good reasons. With 'okay' health and 2 armour, along with the Shield ability, it is already a good tank, especially against melee and ranged attackers.

With 3 melee damage, it will further gain a (+1) boost from Tarsa, making it a scary foe.

Role: Damage Dealer, Backline Hitter

Probably the favourite card of any Fire deck players. Played alongside Tarsa, it hits with 3 damage - probably hitting the enemy damage dealers.

At such a cheap cost, you would be able to wreak havoc in the enemy back lines and possibly win the round when the enemy do not pay attention to it.

Role: Backline Hitter

Our card of the week and a Backline Hitter. You can't get enough of cards that handle all the backline cards.

Being a card that uses ranged attacks, it provides a wider range of attacks so in case you encounter some Thorns like Earth decks with Mylor.

Role: Damage Dealer

A great card that does just as great amount of damage to straight at the back of the enemy backlines. With great stats all around, it functions as both a damage dealer and also a backline shield against enemy Sneak attacks.

Play by play

> Round 1:

Start of the battle. My opponent, too, used up all 22 mana to put out Summoner Thaddius Brood (4) leading the Crypt Beetle (3), Silent Sha-vi (5), Undead Badger (2), Life Sapper (3), Soul Strangler (3) and a Xenith Archer (2) in corresponding order.

The enemy Undead Badger and Silent Sha-vi took turns to throw hands at my Tenyii Striker, leaving him at 3 health already. Serpentine Spy quickly gave them a taste of their own medicine, smacking down the Badger, sending him off the field already.

Life Sapper took this time to drain away 1 HP from my Living Lava to boost his own health. Soul Strangler added on to the damage by firing a shot at Living Lava as well, leaving Lava at (5 Health | 1 Armour).

Lava Spider then tried to keep Life Sapper in check with its Snipe attacks. Tenyii Striker quickly removed Xenith Archer off the field while Living Lava swipes away Crypt Beetle's armour. The Beetle attempted to hit Lava, to no avail, due to the Shield ability.

> Round 2:

Shavi starts the round off again, leaving Tenyii Striker at critical health. Serpentine Spy slashes the Beetle away, resulting in Shavi taking up the frontline, which also means no more Sneak attacks from them.

Life Sapper pulled off another sap on Living Lava while Soul Strangler dismantles Lava's armour, leaving it bare open at just 4 HP only. Lava Spider again, pokes at Life Sapper, making sure he doesn't grow to be a tank.

Tenyii Striker now have his fun by deleting Soul Strangler from the back. Leaving Living Lava to end the round by leaving just 1 of Shavi's HP.

> Round 3:

Shavi takes his chance and gave Living Lava a whack, to find out that it only did 1 damage. Serpentine Spy then took the opportunity to take down Shavi.

Life Sapper put in his last efforts by draining out HP from Living Lava again... Just to get put down by the combined efforts of Lava Spider and Tenyii Striker.

Strategy Talk

Fire decks are some of the decks I like going back to as I find most comfort in using their cards. However, I was having difficulties trying to put Lava Spider in my teams as I often found other cards to have a higher success rate or I just don't know a good deck to make use of Lava Spider properly.

Looking at the opponent's history, I was unsure of which deck I could optimally choose to try to counter his decks as the opponent did not play the same few decks. I felt that Fire decks are pretty decent against other decks.

In this battle, I tried to stuffing in many Backline hitters of Serpentine Spy, Lava Spider and Tenyii Striker. With a strong tank available at my frontline, I quickly made work of the enemy backline hitters quickly.

Lava Spider was a card I had wanted to make more use of. I think there shouldn't be singular gameplay or choices. Fire decks should give you a bigger dilemma over which summoner to play. Now, it mostly is just Tarsa.

Lava Spider is really useful for taking out low HP backline attackers. It is also really useful to take out fodders that players put in to treat as a decoy to prevent Opportunist attacks. In this battle, Lava Spider did not prove to be thaaaaat useful as Life Sapper was shielding against all attacks from it.

Thanks for reading!

It was fun to revisit this card again as I had been wanting to make more use of it. We keep on going. Cheers.
