[ Mycelic Morphoid ] - Share Your Battle! Weekly Challenge

avatar

My first challenge of the week!
Theme and card of the week is Mycelic Morphoid.

Thoughts: This is a card I treat as a fodder, it is a cheap card that I usually place down to tank some damage when I am low on mana that I can use.

A similar card I know of would the Death deck's Carrion Shade or the Fire deck's Radiated Scorcher, as they have the same mana cost and health at level 1. I usually use both similarly. Not sure why the Earth deck requires this 1 mana cost card to have a lower speed than the other 2 cards 🤔

For this challenge, I would be using Mycelic Morphoid at level 1. (He does not have his Thorns ability)

Team Composition

Role: Summoner

The go-to summoner I would use when playing an Earth deck. Providing a (+1) to magic attack, it boosts what the Earth deck is best at, magic attacks. Providing increased damage to cards that can attack from any position will definitely boost their firepower immensely.

Role: Tank, Magic Tank

The first in position and the one card you want that is both strong and counters magic attacks. With its high stats, it can already pass off as a good tank, then with the addition of the Void ability which reduces magic attack damage, it will be immensely useful while fighting against other magic attack users.

I used him as I was expecting the opponent to also use an Earth magic deck after seeing the Battle Rules.

Role: Fodder

A cheap card that is able to take at least one hit, effectively buying some time for the backline to deal more damage to the opponent team.

Placed him near the front to take damage before the backline.

Role: Fodder

The card of the week and also a cheap card that is able to take at least one hit, effectively buying some time for the backline to deal more damage to the opponent team.

It has more health compared to the Chaos Agent, hence there is a chance of lasting a while longer.

Placed him near the front to take damage before the backline.

Role: Magic Attacker, Evasive Tank

A really good card that has a great chance of evading the opponent's attacks with its high speed and also the Flying ability.

After doing some Share Your Battle! Weekly challenges, I realised how good this card was.

Placed it before my healer (who deals more damage) to ensure more overall damage.

Role: Magic Attacker, Healer

A good card which provides both good damage and the ability to heal an ally card in the frontline.

Tried placing it near the back to keep him alive longer.

Role: Magic Attacker

A pretty cheap card which uses magic attack, hence synergises with the summoner Oblivion's (+1) magic attack.

Placed it at the very back to try to keep the Goblin Psychic alive a while longer (away from backstabs).

Strategy Talk

Looking at the opponent's history, I noticed him playing with a mix of different element decks. Seeing the mana cost cap was at 27 and also taking note of the special battle rules - Melee Mayhem, I decided to use an Earth magic deck. I was expecting the opponent to use more melee monsters, which, in this scenario, meant magic attack worked well to get past their armour.

In this battle, I tried to focus on the survivability of my backline. I tried to ensure I have adequate tanks to buy time for my backline to dismantle the opponent team. With Unicorn Mustang, it is sufficient as a good tank and also failsafe against any unexpected Earth magic decks. Afterwards, add some essential magic attackers. All that is left is adding a fodder or two in Chaos Agent and Mycelic Morphoid with my remaining mana.

I had triumphed today with my lineup. I think in this battle, Mycelic Morphoid had done its job well. It had managed to tank 2 hits, which bought enough time for my backline to take the enemy team down before they reach my backline.

I think that in this battle, I had gotten lucky by putting up a magic deck against a deck using armour. Without magic attacks, I would may take twice as long to take down the enemy team, which spelled my defeat.

Mycelic Morphoid is a cheap card you want to place before your backline to tank some attacks, maybe Opportunity attacks. You could also use it as a cheap option to tank for some backstabs.

Thanks for reading!

It was fun to theorise and also find more ways to play with the card!

We keep on going. Cheers.
