[ Mycelic Morphoid ] - Share Your Battle! Weekly Challenge (2)

avatar

My second challenge of the week!
Theme and card of the week is Mycelic Morphoid.

Thoughts: This is a card I treat as a fodder, it is a cheap card that I usually place down to tank some damage when I am low on mana that I can use.

A similar card I know of would the Death deck's Carrion Shade or the Fire deck's Radiated Scorcher, as they have the same mana cost and health at level 1. I usually use both similarly. Not sure why the Earth deck requires this 1 mana cost card to have a lower speed than the other 2 cards 🤔

For this challenge, I would be using Mycelic Morphoid at level 1. (He does not have his Thorns ability)

In my first challenge (https://ecency.com/hive-13323/@tertius/mycelic-morphoid-share-your-battle), I did a mid-high mana cost battle, this time it would be a low mana cost battle.

Team Composition

Role: Summoner

The go-to summoner I would use when playing an Earth deck. Providing a (+1) to magic attack, it boosts what the Earth deck is best at, magic attacks. Providing increased damage to cards that can attack from any position will definitely boost their firepower immensely.

Role: Tank, Magic Tank

The first in position and a pretty cheap card for a tank. It has nice stats to be used as a tank.

With its Magic Reflect ability, it is typically used only against magic decks. However, I think that in low mana cost battles, the Failed Summoner can work both as a Tank or as a magic counter.

Role: Magic Attacker, Evasive Tank

A really good card that has a great chance of evading the opponent's attacks with its high speed and also the Flying ability.

After doing some Share Your Battle! Weekly challenges, I realised how good this card was.

Placed it as the second tank

Role: Magic Attacker

A pretty cheap card which uses magic attack, hence synergises with the summoner Oblivion's (+1) magic attack.

Placed her in between the Regal Peryton and Mycelic Morphoid to hopefully stay alive.

Role: Fodder, Backline Shield

The card of the week and also a cheap card that is able to take at least one hit, effectively buying some time for the backline to deal more damage to the opponent team.

Placed him at the back to tank for some backstabs

Strategy Talk

Looking at the opponent's history, I noticed him playing with a mix of Death and Water decks. Since I just wanted try if I was able to make a low mana cost deck work, I just went along with some cards I thought was essential for a balanced lineup.

In this battle, I tried to focus on the survivability of my magic attackers. I put a first tank in Failed Summoner to the frontline to delay for my attackers. I felt Regal Peryton was pretty good as a tank, hence I felt it was okay to place him second. Khmer Princess is placed as another magic attacker, finishing off with the Mycelic Morphoid to serve as a backline shield against backstabs.

I had triumphed today with my lineup. I think in this battle, Mycelic Morphoid did not have a chance to show off its usage. As the opponent did not use any Sneak cards, it was left at the back without doing anything as my magic attackers managed to finish the job, having adequate damage and health to overcome the fight.

I think that in this battle, I had gotten lucky by putting up a magic deck against a deck using armour. The opponent used Drake of Arnak instead of Thaddius Blood, which allowed me to retain my increased magic attack damage.

Mycelic Morphoid is a cheap card you want to place before your backline to tank some attacks, maybe Opportunity attacks. You could also use it as a cheap option to tank for some backstabs.

Thanks for reading!

It was fun to theorise and also find more ways to play with the card!

We keep on going. Cheers.
