Cleaning Up Social Media and Taking a Hive First Approach To Social Media

After several months I'm finally starting to take a HIVE first approach to social media. Old habits are hard to change. It took forever to break those habits. Some days, even after making a conscious effort, I catch myself unconsciously returning to my old ways.

I used to wake up and check my social media as soon as I woke. It was almost always Twitter first, then the price of bitcoin and a few shitcoin charts, then over to HIVE to see what's happening here.

Now I try to wake up, avoid social media on Twitter till after my morning workout. I generally check my Hive comments while I have my morning coffee then workout, then check Twitter.

I've also been making a conscious effort to spend less time on traditional social media like Twitter. Honestly, social media used to put me in a good mood, that's not the case anymore. More times than not, five minutes into my social media feed on Twitter I'm pissed off, triggered, disgusted, and grumpy! Why would I put myself through this everyday? WHY WOULD I CHOOSE TO START MY DAY WITH SOMETHING THAT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE THAT?

In all fairness I stopped commenting on anything political or covid related. I stopped liking anything political or covid related. I also click on the "I'm not interested in this Tweet" tab on anything political or covid related that comes across my feed. Surprisingly my feed has returned to mostly crypto posts! Thank God. I was getting to the point where I was ready to 86 the whole account!

Nothing against GirlGoneCrypto, I just used her Tweet as an example. I just learned about this option and it's a great way to rid your stream of politics and covid. Just click the "I'm not interested in this Tweet" tab for any topic you want to disappear from your stream!

I don't know when this happened, but suddenly everyone posts political content, constantly. I've had enough! My feed is sooo much better without all the political commentary and propaganda. Not to mention the improvement in my attitude and mental health. I'm not doing that to myself anymore!

The funny thing is, this is what made me originally take my HIVE first approach to social media. HIVE still makes me feel good on most days. I love social media filled with fun stories, photography, art, jokes, and GOOD information. That's what Hive provides to me. Or I should say that's what most of the great people in our HIVE ecosystem share with me, and I thank you all for that.... Yes, you reading this! Thank you for being part of my HIVE fam!

On top of all this, HIVE, Splinterlands and LeoFinance, have been really good to me this year! I was always a little iffy about STEEMIT and I've always been really confident in HIVE. I was so happy when we forked! Although I've had full confidence in HIVE from the start I have to say that HIVE and Splinterlands were a really great surprises for this crypto rally of 2021! Words can't describe how thankful and blessed I feel to be a small part of all this. Why would I focus on anything other than HIVE first after all this?

Another thing that solidified my HIVE first attitude was HiveFest. After learning a little more about everything that's happening on our blockchain. Gaming, NFT's, communities, token creation, dex's and so much more! There's a lot happening on this blockchain and with this much development we can only move forward. Onwards and upwards! LFG baby!

I hadn't realized but I've been posting to Twitter much less. Someone mentioned the other day on Twitter that I've been quiet lately and I was happy to tell them that I'm focusing mainly on HIVE these days. Their reply was "I need to get on there also." Not sure if they made the move, but seed planted and I felt pretty good about that.

I've made a few friends on Twitter but nothing like the relationships I've formed with people here on HIVE. Hive has never made me feel icky, mad or disgusted after going through my feed. With the exception of a few referral links I've posted, I've never made any money off Twitter. Hive has been REALLY good to me. Why wouldn't I focus on the social media account that has been sooooo good to me and even helped improve my life?

I'm so looking forward to entering 2022 with my HIVE family. We all grow together is a common phrase people use and couldn't be truer when talking about the HIVE community. We truly grow together here!

Cheap dopamine.

No doubt, but between the political atmosphere and health issues things have gotten completely out of control on most social sites. I also think that's intentionally done by the algorithms of these mainstream sites and I have a huge issue with that! The entire world is arguing with each other on social media right now 🤣 I've been an active internet uses since the mid 90s and I've never seen anything like this.

Focus on what’s in your control

Absolutely. Breathe in the good shit, exhale the bullshit! 🤣

Cheers @nathanmars.leo
Sorry I missed you at HiveFest!

Because a lot of the social media shit is algorithmic, I force fed it with my passion for Orangetheory Fitness, politics, religion, etc is almost non-existent.

I now make sure to do the same with my jimmyadames Twitter account and force feed it HIVE ✋🏽

But I definitely get where you are coming from @the-bitcoin-dood

It seems if you're very selective with your content "likes" and "shares" you can get a handle on what shows up in your feed.

OH thanks for the tip on how to clean up Twitter feed. I've been using a similar feature on Facebook to clean crap out of my feed and keep my irritation level down.

Hive is like our best kept secret for a place to hang and innovation. We might be sorry if the masses ever find us.

I've thought the same thing. The vibe and atmosphere here is awesome and it would be a shame if it changed with mass adoption!

The Hive front ends don't try to force content on you, so you have more control. Some people will want some politics, but they can follow the people who do that. I actually tend to do political stuff more on Twitter as I don't think my Hive audience are as interested.

I would think crypto people would have a natural home on Hive. Just need to build that critical mass.

One of the things I absolutely love about Hive.

I would think crypto people would have a natural home on Hive. Just need to build that critical mass.

I think we need to put an end to toxic bitcoin maximalism and we need to start a movement where instead of slamming each others projects we support them. You would think Hive and LeoFinance would be the place to share crypto knowledge and it would be embraced by the crypto community as a whole. This is never the case. We love sharing knowledge but we seem to hate supporting projects outside our comfort zone or that compete with our investment interests and that needs to stop.

IMHO, often I don't agree with a crypto project completely but if it fulfills a need and is part of our cryptosphere, I'll try and support it any way I can. With the exception of BSV because CSW is such a prat in my not so humble opinion! 🤣

Just seems odd that crypto fans will use a corporate platform like Twitter, but you go where the audience is. Leo need to market themselves more.

Hooray for a Hivefest mindset!

I only spend a few seconds checking the top of my Twitter feed for people I know I want to support and engage with those Tweets. I spend a little more time on Instagram but not much. On Hive though I want to have a feed I want to read, and engage with - and mostly I've achieved that so far.

Sounds like you have found a much healthier/balanced approach!

No doubt. Same here. I love my Hive feed, so much great content. It doesn't have to be all rainbows and unicorns but my feed on other social platforms are often filled with doom and gloom. Definitely not the way to start the day 🤣 Cheers!

Absolutely - I'm going to try to keep my feed as something I want to read. I'm not going to follow people to be polite or because I want to 'repay' them. There are better ways (upvoting, tipping) to do that on Hive.
