How Has DEC Responded To The Great Burning?

Finally, the highly anticipated Great Burn began a few days ago and its been looking up so far. I honestly did not expect that so many tokens would be burned especially just days into the event. As of the time of writing this, there have been more than 312 million DEC and over 151 million DEC-B tokens burned. This adds up to well over 460 million tokens burned in just 3-4 days of the event. That's almost half a billion tokens burned in less than a week.

I have heard people say that burning DEC or DEC-B is wasteful and they rather not take part in the event. I understand this sentiment because the prizes are not guarantee and people have other priorities. Still, the massive involvement by the community is a testament of the enthusiasm around Splinterlands.

Except for the possibility of winning a prize and the guild points benefit, most people in the community enjoy participation and so will engage however they can. This is why I had to participate in this event. Personally, I burned just about 34,000 DEC to get up to 100k points. I'm currently ranked at #823 which isn't impressive at all but oh well. At least I can say I took part in this and I also get 100k guild points when the feature gets released.

How is DEC price reacting to the burn?

Obviously, changes in a healthy economy take time especially when the projection is upwards. Right now, all the burning hasn't really had any effect on the price of DEC. I haven't really been following the trend for a long time but in the past 2 months, more than a billion DEC has been burned without the price being affected so much.

From this, it is clear that more than 30% of the entire DEC burned in that last two months was burned just in the last 3 days! So far, nothing has really changed regarding the price of DEC. I would say that the anticipation and purchase of DEC after the announcement was what caused the price to go from around $0.00077 to around $0.00083. Maybe, as more DEC gets burned quickly in the short-term, the price would eventually respond to all that upward pressure.

There is, infact, something else that should help to increase the price of DEC very soon and that is the release of Land Phase 1.5.

Looking Forward To Land Phase 1.5

Land Phase 1.5 is expected to be released anytime from now and the entire community is excited about it. This phase of land is when the exploration will begin as land owners try to discover the so-called "Secret of Praetoria". The thing about this phase is that it requires a lot of DEC to be staked and burned by land owners. After so much DEC has been burned, increasing it's demand with the launch of land phase 1.5 would be a nice way to pump the price and get it closer to peg value. Considering this, I would say that we're off on a good path to getting DEC pack to peg value.

If I had more DEC, I would have probably burned it given that I would probably not need any DEC for Land phase 1.5. I already have my Runi ready to go to work and from the whitepaper, the Runi would eliminate basically any need for DEC while providing other additional benefits on the land plot it is staked on. Runi has definitely been a great investment in this game but I will talk about that specifically in another post.

Conclusion

The Great Burn only just began but there has been massive participation so far. At this rate, more than a billion DEC would be burned before the event is over. Even though I burned just a measly amount of DEC compared to the bigger players, I'm glad I took part in this event.

Finalmente, el muy esperado Great Burn comenzó hace unos días y ha estado mejorando hasta ahora. Honestamente, no esperaba que se quemaran tantos tokens, especialmente solo unos días después del evento. Al momento de escribir esto, se han quemado más de 312 millones de tokens DEC y más de 151 millones de DEC-B. Esto suma más de 460 millones de tokens quemados en solo 3 o 4 días del evento. Eso es casi medio billón de tokens quemados en menos de una semana.

He escuchado a personas decir que quemar DEC o DEC-B es un desperdicio y prefieren no participar en el evento. Entiendo este sentimiento porque los premios no están garantizados y la gente tiene otras prioridades. Aún así, la participación masiva de la comunidad es un testimonio del entusiasmo por Splinterlands.

Excepto por la posibilidad de ganar un premio y el beneficio de los puntos del gremio, la mayoría de las personas en la comunidad disfrutan de la participación y lo harán como puedan. Es por eso que tuve que participar en este evento. Personalmente, quemé alrededor de 34 000 DEC para obtener hasta 100 000 puntos. Actualmente estoy clasificado en el puesto 823, lo que no es nada impresionante, pero bueno. Al menos puedo decir que participé en esto y también obtengo 100k puntos de gremio cuando se lanza la función.
