Uriel The Purifier: Recharge Put To Good Use

There are many abilities that would fall under the category of "players' favorite" and Recharge is not one of them. Well I can't say much about the players in higher leagues but I don't see this ability get played a lot in silver and gold. But why is that? Let's talk a little bit about this ability to find out.

RECHARGE

image.png

The recharge ability is one that grants its wielder the ability to do 3x more damage than would have been done without the ability. That means that this ability significantly magnifies the damage done by a monster when he attacks but the thing is that the monster with this ability does not always get to attack.

The catch that comes with having Recharge is that the monster can only attack every other time and that's where the "issue" comes in. Of course, this is a brilliant way to avoid unnecessarily overpowering monsters with this ability. Also, it adds that extra layer of fun and tacticality in any match involving a recharge monster given that players have to be more creative when using it.

Of course, skipping a turn comes with the biggest drawback that the monster can be taken out before even getting the chance to attack. Also there's the possibility that the monster gets stunned and doesn't even get to attack when it gets to its turn.

Even if the recharged monster gets to attack, he may miss or even get his massive attack stopped by armor, void armor, shield or even void and just like that, the planned destructive attack is reduced to just a tickle. These counters are necessary to give the other side a chance to against this ability but they are also what make players think twice about using recharge.

MONSTERS WITH RECHARGE

There are currently just 6 monsters with the recharge ability. 3 of the monsters are legendary, 2 are epic while just 1 is a rare monster. Also, the only element that does not currently have a recharge monster is water.

Here are the monsters below;

One good thing about these recharge monsters is that they all come with the ability at level 1. Still, it would have been nice to have monster that does not initially have recharge but gets it at a higher level. I wonder if it would make it less desirable to level up such a monster and what impact it would have on its market value. In that case it's reasonable to say that its possible that higher level cards would cost less per BCX. Of course, all that is just speculation.

Right now, let's focus on what we have. Among these 6 monsters, the one I use the most is Uriel and I want to talk about him.

URIEL THE PURIFIER

image.png

Uriel is a legendary life card from the Chaos Legion set and an absolute beast in the battlefield. When I really started playing with this card, I found him to be really good that I had to buy 3 BCX at $4.99 each for a level 2 many months ago. Right now at $2.50 per BCX, Uriel is very underpriced for the value he brings to the battle field.

But what makes Uriel so great?

On his own, Uriel comes with the right blend of abilities at least at level 2. Firstly, the armor he comes with makes him a really good tank. Also, having the flying ability can help him avoid getting hit before his turn and the self heal really helps to preserve this monster. I really love the self heal because it activates even during the rounds that he does not charge. He just heals up and begins to charge up. It's always a nice sight to see.

Ok so Uriel is a flying tank that can heal up even without attacking. That's really impressive but this monster does even better with the support I like to provide for him. Let's talk about that.

SUMMONERS

The best way that I have learned to use Uriel's armor is by using Rathe as a summoner. Rathe's Void Armor buff makes sure that Uriel is not hit at all until all his armor is gone and that usually takes a good number of hits.

Sthispa is also good because she grants that Phase buff that can help in dodging magic attacks. So he would stand a chance to dodge melee and range attacks with flying and also magic attacks with phase. I remember that I once mentioned that this was one of my favorite Riftwatchers summoners and she still is.

REPAIR AND RESURRECT

image.png

Many times, a tank is just as good as its backline support. For Uriel, I like to make sure that the void armor granted to him by Rathe is preserved. This is where repair comes in. Sometimes, I would use more than one of these monsters in a single team just for a stronger support.

Among the three, I play Adelade Brightwing the most because she also has flying and the resurrect ability. Resurrect is a great support for Uriel if he gets taken out first. The ability just brings him back with the void armor and he gets to heal up if possible.

TANK HEAL

image.png

You can never go wrong with an extra tank heal supporting the front. Sometimes, even Uriel with all the health, the self heal and even the void armor can be hit with a lot of hard fire that would be enough to take him out. A single tank healer can make the difference and a great choice for me is the former reward card, Venari Crystalsmith.

URIEL TAKES THE FIELD

Here are some typical way I'd set up this recharge monster on the battle field;

FIRST TEAM

image.png

This was a match which I almost perfectly predicted what the opponent would play. I anticipated that there would be less magic monsters on the other side so I could save some mana by using Sthispa instead of Rathe. The phase buff worked when I Uriel really needed it as shown below;

At the end of the match, the whole team was preserved. You can view the match by clicking This Link.

SECOND TEAM

For this match, I don't think putting Blinding Reflector in the frontline was a good idea because the reflect was not put to the best use and so was Rathe's amplify. Well, he was taken out, resurrected and killed again. Thankfully, he was taken out just in time for Rathe to get to the first position and deliver a massive 9X attack.

In the end, my team was victorious with the other side not standing much of a chance even with the higher level summoners and monsters. Here's the Battle.

URIEL'S FATE

The Chaos Legion Life edition is one that was brilliantly built and I mean the core set, reward and riftwatchers - at least for the most part. Uriel is a monster that fits perfectly in a lot of ways. I have noticed that the card is one that many players like and so at the $2 range, it really is cheap.

image.png

Looking at the history, the highest price for a single BCX of Uriel is $26 which is quite a lot compared to what it is now. I can't say for sure if the price would pass that eventually but if history is anything to go by, we can safely assume that $26 is not the limit for a card like this.
