My Splinterlands Blog #151 - Happy Halloween 2023!

Welcome to a somewhat belated end-of-season article, where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! With the end of the month, it is also the end of another season of ranked play. Since I wrote my last article a bit late in the season, there has not been a lot of news since then.

Lord of Darkness, one of the original legendary cards from the Alpha set, seemed appropriate for the Halloween article.

Land 1.5 "should" be out in November, but that release deadline has slipped many times in the past. It was noted by the main land developer that a specific release date would be announced on the last Town Square public facing meeting, but he just said it would be released when it was ready. It seems like Tower Defense won't be out until sometime in 2024 at the earliest at this rate, never mind Validator node software for Splintershard tokens (SPS).

Some Rebellion set artwork was teased, but nothing with stats yet. There's still a lot of speculation about the power creep that may come with that set. Anyhow, as I said, not really much new!

I forgot to record my Guild Brawl matches, so once again skipping those until next time. I did fairly well, but the guild came in around the bottom half of things as best I recall. So, let's just focus on the end of season.

I made it back into Diamond III in Wild on my main account, and handily made it to Gold III on my alternate account. I basically play in Silver league on my alt, and just jump up at the end of the season. I'm trying to get to Diamond on my main, but it's always tough. Still, better than when I was playing in Modern.

My alternate account got 25 Gold chests playing in Silver, but nothing really that exciting out of them.

My main account got 57 Gold chests on my main main account, with equally disappointing end of season rewards. I got 2 epics, but no gold foils, legendary cards, or packs.

All together a fairly lackluster set of season rewards this time around. The plan for the next season is essentially the same as the last one, try to get to the top of the leagues in Wild. I did play up to Silver I on my alternate account as well, but mainly played in Wild for typically easier opponents.

The one part of the game that is seeing a lot of activity is with proposals. There's one to hire someone to act as a facilitator for the D.A.O., the organization that "owns" SPS that is separate from the game company. Another is to fund a third party developed game Splinter Royale, that is very similar to Hearthstone Battlegrounds.

The first seems likely to pass, albeit by a small margin and with a lot of complaints about salary. The latter seems to be failing by a decent margin. The game itself seems fun, but people don't seem to like the revenue split or the unclear method of the organization getting its money back.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween! Another month until Rebellion comes out, and maybe the next phase of land will actually come out before then. Thank you for reading, and I'll be back with another update in about a week!
