My Splinterlands Blog #156 - Game Updates Galore!

Welcome to another article where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! It's been quite the busy week, with three separate updates at the time of this writing. The biggest one would be the release of the Rebellion set! This rotated all of the Untamed era cards out of Modern play and added several new gameplay mechanics.

There are now dual element summoners, which allows for monsters from two different colors to be used. There are also now "Tactics" summoners, that let you pick target monsters to have a specific buff or debuff on them after teams are selected, but before combat starts. This is likely to be similar to how spells and items will work once they finally get to adding those.

There are also five new monster abilities with Rebellion: Armored Strike, Corrosive Ward, Flank, Look Out, and Ambush. Ambush lets the monster get a turn before all of the other monsters go. Look Out gives 1 damage reduction to neighboring monsters if they are attacked by a monster with Sneak, Snipe, or Opportunity. Flank gives the monster behind it Reach, kind of like a miniature Possibilus The Wise buff.

Everyone gets Reach, and Trample, and +2 Health while we're at it!

Armored Strike is a new attack type, where the monster does a melee attack that does damage equal to its armor. Corrosive Ward deal 2 armor damage in response to melee attacks, or like a Thorns that only impacts armor. However, due to my investment in Land, I have yet to pick up any Rebellion cards and can't really talk too much about how they play.

Speaking of Land, a lot of small fixes and quality of life improvements have been coming out to make it easier to manage. I'm at a spot where I've got enough grain production going to supply my one Research and one Splintershards (SPS) plots. I still have 4 under production, three more grain and one more SPS mine, as well as 3 plots I don't currently have monsters or Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) to really support.

My current land production. The large Grain deficit is due to the large amount I'll need to finish playing construction on my 4 in-progress sites.

Prices seem to be going up, with a lot of DEC getting spent on Rebellion packs and getting plots going. This seems to be good for the general community feeling in Discord, though we'll see how long that lasts. I also opened up the last couple of Chaos Legion packs I had kicking around, though I am not sure when exactly I'll be picking up new packs to open at the moment.

Nothing too remarkable, though the double rare with one of them being a summoner in the second pack was a nice find.

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #184, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in third place overall.

Vs. GORDON-GOBLINS of SHADOWS

Vs. MACNATPAT35 of SATOR AREPO

Vs. N15M0 of I FA FRETTE AU QUEBEC - opponent fled

Guild Brawl #185, playing Bronze League Gold Foil Only. The guild came in 4th from last place. Pretty sporadic placings overall, bounding up and down the list rather than any sort of consistent placing so far.

Vs. OROSOS of LEGENDARY WARANE

Vs. ENTERPRISE19 of [ZOO]

Vs. KANTARAS of DECIPHER's CLAN

Vs. NILSD22 of THE AGED AVENGERS

Vs. NARUTO004 of SKYLAR SKYRUW - opponent fled

Vs. WANGLO25 of YGG (PHILIPPINES)

I opened up one Gladiator pack:

No gold foil cards, but some of the more useful gladiators here.

The Rest

I am still playing both of my accounts, one in Silver and the other in Gold league. I'm also still primarily playing in Wild, though moving some of my better cards to land has certainly hurt my win rate. I only pulled a handful of cards off my Silver account, but their being unavailable has already been noticeable in a few matches.

At this point, I think I'm probably going to need to convert some SPS to either cards for land, or cards to play with. I would like to get my remaining land plots producing something, though it's expensive to get the DEC needed for the monsters to be able to work on land. The Rebellion set seems fun, but there's no way I can afford to get Gold level cards any time soon.

Which means it's pretty much the status quo for me, trying to grind out what chests I can with the cards I have left. And, that's about it for this midseason update. Thank you for reading and I'll be back in about a week with the season wrap up!
