My Splinterlands Blog #50 - My Year In Splinterlands

avatar

Welcome to another weekly update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub).

With the seasons being about 15 days on average, the extra days have added up to make this 50th article my 1 year anniversary of playing and writing about Splinterlands. It has been a long strange year in this simple play-to-earn card game. I've played over 10,000 ranked games, become a support staff member, and built up quite a collection of digital cards and collectibles.

The first week of this season has been fairly uneventful for me, at least in terms of game play. SPS-based tournaments were implemented, and I took part in one of them. The support front has been much more eventful. The main developer took a well-deserved holiday weekend away, during which the e-mail server for the game crashed, the Asia region had issues playing the game, and some accounts were mass banned.

A couple of cards from the upcoming Chaos Legion set have been teased, but with no firm release date yet. The new reward cards have also not been put out at the time of this writing. But, let's take our usual look at the breakdown of the past week.

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 362 - Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I received 43 Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) and 3 Legendary potions.

Daily Quest # 363 - Win 5 with Life.. re-rolled to Win 5 with Death. I played, and lost, a whole bunch of games with Death before re-rolling. I finished in Silver II, due to time constraints and frustration, getting a Legendary potion and 171 DEC (44 + 127).

Daily Quest # 364 - Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 5 with Fire. I skipped doing Death entirely this time. After getting back to Silver I and finishing this quest, I got a Charlok Minotaur, a Legendary potion, and 27 (12 + 15) DEC.

Daily Quest # 365 - Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 5 with Fire. The game really wanted to give me a Death daily this week. For completing this one, I got 2 Legendary potions, a Gold potion, and 9 DEC.

Daily Quest # 366 - Win 5 with Earth. For finishing this daily quest, I received 2 Legendary potions and 25 (10 + 15) DEC.

Daily Quest # 367 - Win 3 with No Neutral. For completing this daily quest, I got 2 copies of the Nightmare common card and 16 (5 + 11) DEC.

Daily Quest # 368 - Win 5 with Snipe. For finishing this daily quest, I received a Legendary potion, a Gold potion, and 25 (10 + 15) DEC.

Daily Quest # 369 - Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I got 2 Legendary potions, a Gold potion, and 24 DEC.

Tournaments:

This was another week where I only actually played in one tournament. I missed signing up for one of the Bronze Blunderbuss tournaments, and chose not to sign up for the Kobold Novice tournament. I think they made a mistake in the latter when converting it to an SPS tournament, in that it made it attractive to higher tier players again.

Sunday Bronze Blunderbuss, no legendary cards, all sets tournament. I went 9-1-1 the first day. I got smacked around by other good players on day two, finishing 12-9-1 to come in 41st place for 20 SPS. The entry fee was 6.25 SPS, so I make a few tokens.

Guild Brawls:

We've had a lot of issues with the relatively short time frame in-between brawls when you can contribute towards upgrading the buildings. We did manage to level up the Shop, so we now earn Merits from brawls. Merits are used to buy the Gladiator packs, but we need to level up the shop again for them to be available.

Guild Brawl #32, playing Gold foil Bronze, all sets for a change. Because no one else had filled the slot, and there were more opponents queued, I changed over to the all sets Gold foil Bronze right before the brawl started. My Untamed only game is a little better. I think we came in 4th, with some slots going unfilled, but missed writing down our results.

Vs REALITYBITES of Futuramarules

Vs SMUKKERS of Bone Crushers

Vs MAGNOLIA-MAGGIE of S.I.C.

Vs AGEWRITER of Kings of Kombat

Guild Brawl #33, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed set only. I only had one opponent this time, but the guild rallied after upgrading the shop and we managed to come in 1st place!

Vs NENZIE of The Misfits

The Rest:

I did no real trading this past week. I still have a handful of cards on the Atomic Hub market, but I think the buying frenzy may have cooled a bit. I expect this is a result of the various server issues putting a damper on people's enthusiasm for the game, as well as some bans hitting a number of accounts.

My InvestYGator account also had no rewards of note this past week, just potions, small amounts of DEC, and occasionally a common card. I'm renting a few cards to get him into Silver I at the moment, though mostly playing off of delegated cards from my main account. So, at least I'm keeping my rental costs down.

I didn't open a pack this week, as I'm still considering selling my Untamed packs to finance Chaos Legion purchases. I really should make up my mind one way or the other, since the pre-sale is supposed to start this month. I've got a small stockpile of SPS staked in anticipation of the pre-sale, but no details have been announced on that as of yet.

Since it's been a year of playing, I'm going to celebrate by tucking in a little giveaway here at the end of my article. This is more intended for newer players. If you reply with your Splinterlands account name, I will pick a winner on each of the various platforms I post on at the end of this season. The prize will either be 100 DEC or the delegation of a useful card for a month (or, until I remember I was supposed to cancel the delegation).

That’s about it for this week! Thank you for reading and if you have any comments, suggestions, or feedback please let me know in the comments below! I’ll be back next week with the season wrap up!

Great job in a year! I just started recently and have been going back to the beginning of your journey to follow along. Crazy that it's been a year, seems faster since I'm reading them all at once :) Thanks for the posts and good luck in the next year!

Thanks for replying. Apparently you were the only one that read the article all the way through :D Or, at least replied with your name. Looking at your collection, and what I've got left undelegated, maybe a Bila The Radiant might help a little with Life matches.

Thank you for the delegation! Bila is a cool card and I'm sure will be very helpful as I struggle my way back into Silver :)
