My Splinterlands Blog #60 – Mid-Season Report & Power Outage Success

avatar

Welcome to another weekly update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub).

At the time of this writing, the last day of the Chaos Legion pre-sale is upon us! Then we're only a couple of weeks away from Chaos Legion being released, with the packs being able to be opened and the Doctor Blight card getting air dropped. Voucher prices have spiked up a bit as people try to secure their place in the top 6, or just try to get an amount divisible by 50 for the Doctor Blight air drop card.

A couple of minor updates have been pushed out, but it seems to mostly be clean up for when the Chaos Legion pre-sale ends. Support continues to be quite busy, with sporadic Hive Engine and BSC bridge issues still causing transactions to get delayed or bounced back. On the topic of support, would any readers be interested in some articles about basic How To's for the game? I find I spend a lot of time trying to explain how Resource Credits work to players in Discord.

In short, Resource Credits are the gas of the Hive network. You use them to submit transactions to the network, and they come from hold Hive tokens.

At any rate, I won't get into it too much in this article, as this is intended to primarily be a blog about my Splinterlands activity (progress?). If people are interested, I'll do a separate series, so let me know in the comments below. For now, let's get on to the breakdown of the past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 438 - Win 5 With Dragon. Back to Gold III at the start of the season. It was really tough to get this done, as a lot of Diamond players were grinding back up. When I did finally finish the quest, I received 23 (12 + 10 + 1) Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), a Gold potion, a Pelacor Bandit (common monster), and a Garyoga Devil (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 439 - Win 5 With Dragon. Still in Gold III, as I ended up being pretty busy and didn't have time for a lot of extra games. When I completed this quest, I got 16 (4 + 5 + 7) DEC, a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, and a Venari Heatsmith (common monster).

Daily Quest # 440 - Win 5 With Fire… re-rolled to Win 5 with Snipe. For completing this quest, I got 1 DEC, 2 Gold potions, a Gargoya Lion (common monster), a Venari Heatsmith, and a Gold Foil Pelacor Conjurer (common monster, but the gold foil made up for the 1 DEC chest)!

Daily Quest # 441 - Win 5 With Earth. For completing this daily quest, I received 1 DEC, 1 Gold potion, a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster), a Gargoya Lion, a Uraeus (epic monster, and another Djinn Bijlka (legendary monster)!

More than making up for the 1 DEC chest.

Daily Quest # 442 - Win 5 With Fire… re-rolled to Win 5 with Death. I was really concerned about doing this, but got relatively lucky and hit a bunch of decks well below Gold league level. For completing this quest, I got more normal rewards of 13 (9 + 1 + 3) DEC, a Gold potion, a Venari Heatsmith, and a Pelacor Bandit.

Daily Quest # 443 - Win 5 With Snipe. I finally managed to play enough to get back up to Gold II. For finishing this daily quest, I received 150 DEC (148 + 2), a Legendary potion, and 4 Gold potions.

A pretty big DEC chest, but the game really wanted to give me potions.

Daily Quest # 444 - Win 5 With Snipe. For finishing this daily quest, I received a Legendary potion, 4 Gold potions, a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Gargoya Lion.

Daily Quest # 445 - Win 5 With Life… re-rolled to Win 5 with Dragon. For finishing this daily quest, I received 13 DEC (8 + 5), 3 Legendary potions, a Pelacor Conjurer, and a Uraeus! Still not putting in the time to finish getting back up to Gold I, probably on the next quest!

Tons of potions the last 3 days, but overall a really good week with another legendary card and a couple of epic cards. I also opened a few more Untamed packs - number 39, 40, and 41 out of the 50 that I got many months ago now. Not quite as exciting as last week, but a lot more typical results. Let's take a look:

Nothing too exciting here, though Spark Pixies is a good rare monster.

Again, Living Lava is a decent card, though a summoner would have been nice.

One gold foil common out of three packs, probably time to cut my losses and stop opening more for now.

Tournaments:

Zen Sports Power Outage, Silver League with 50K max collection power: I've qualified for quite a few Zen Sports tournaments now, but I've either had to drop out due to real life conflicts or done terribly. The tournament was streamed on their Twitch channel, but to spoil the results I actually did decently for once. I finished in third place, which should earn me a couple hundred dollars worth of crypto (not paid out yet at the time of this writing)!

I like the restricted collection power format, as it makes trying to build a collection its own challenge. However, I did have to massively rearrange my cards onto my InvestYGator account. They also let users build spreadsheets as an alternative option for listing their cards to be used.

Untamed Golden Rule - Bronze league tournament (Dice and Untamed sets for some reason): Since I had to pull so many cards off InvestYGator, I actually had enough Untamed gold foil cards to enter the gold foil Bronze tournament. I went 4-6, heavily on the back of Byzantine Kitty, to not make day 2. But, that was good enough to come in 33rd place for 15 Splintershard tokens (SPS).

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #47, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed set only. I had one opponent this brawl. To spoil the results, I lost due to playing in their Arena on a draw. After upgrading the Barracks, you win any draws that take place in your arena:

Vs. NFT Hunter of NFT(New French Team)

The Rest:

With the tail end of the air drop, I ended up with 18.5 Vouchers left after my 180 Chaos Legion purchase via the pool. I traded them away for a Mitica Headhunter, a Gloridax Guardian, and 18,000 DEC. I promptly lent out the cards to new players, but am sitting on the DEC for the SPS air drop points. Well, I did donate 1,000 DEC to @UnitQM's NewBoost program for new players.

Mitica Headhunter has become quite expensive, otherwise I would really like to level it up for my own deck.

That was about it for trading. A couple of players were trying to sell off their small collections of reward cards on Discord. I offered to buy both, but one refused and the other had already sold their collection. Someone also made an offer on one of my Kron's, but it was a bit less than I was looking to get for one, so I declined.

Besides using my InvestYGator account to play in the Zen Sports tournament, he also managed to find a gold foil Pelacor Conjurer and gold foil Venari Heatsmith this week. It was also way easier to grind up to Silver I after renting out a Yodin and Llama to play in the tournament. I still need to clean up my delegations with that account after the tournament!

That's about it for this week. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! If you have any questions or comments, please let me know, and I’ll be back next week with the season wrap up.

Gold Foil Untamed only Brawls? You're hardcore. I reckon I'd only have a couple of cards for that...

Well done trading your left over vouchers... you didn't want to buy 18 extra packs? I didn't buy or sell any vouchers, I just bought packs with whatever I generated... and will probably do the same in the public sale too.

Do you have any specific plans for the 8th of December? Will you be opening your packs or buying cards? I think I'll be keeping my packs for resale in a year or two... (while enjoying the SPS airdrop points) and will actually try and buy beta/untamed cards... I'm hoping those prices go down while everyone is looking at Chaos Legion. I've got quite a few beta cards at awkward card amounts that I'd love to level up.

Back before Splinterlands mooned, but after Alien Worlds did - I had sold a bunch of TLM and picked up a set of common + rare untamed gold foil cards to help my guild fill out the brawls. Turned out to be a great purchase, since the cards are now worth many times what I paid for them :D Plus I got super lucky and opened the GFL Kitty, so that's pretty much my go to for any gold foil matches :D

I both bought and sold vouchers. As I know that I'm going to get a whole bunch more during the next 2 Million pack sale, I think I'll be able to get a more packs if I want to spend my SPS on them. I think the prices will go down since more will be on the market, and there's no pre-sale bonus attached.

That being said, for the packs that I did get through the pool, I'll probably open a bunch of them on the 8th. But, I'll probably save some, like I did with the Untamed packs, and open a few a week to include in my blog. Heh, I have so many cards I would like to level up, but I don't think it's going to happen with the way prices have been :D Maybe I can get a decent Gold set of Chaos Legion though :)
