My Splinterlands Blog #62- Chaos Legion Part 1

Welcome to another weekly update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub).

The Chaos Legion set has released! I've opened 160 packs so far, netting 1 new Gold Foil legendary card. I also sold about 60 of my packs, in part to fund buying a ton of potions for future pack openings. I've got a lot of screenshots from the pack openings, but I'm going to put them in as a separate follow-up post. For this first part, I'm mainly going to try to keep it to the regular weekly article.

Doctor Blight, the promotional card, did get modified a bit before release.

I did get my 4 copies of Doctor Blight from @MarcusWahl's pack pool that I had joined. I combined 3 to get the level 2 copy above. I'm still a bit fuzzy on how the CAAD tokens from that pool are going to work. Anyhow, on to the usual breakdown of the past week:

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 453 - Win 5 with Snipe. I was back to Gold III following the season reset, and didn't grind out of it for quite a while. For completing this first daily quest of the season, I got 2 Gold potions, a Legendary potion, a Venari Heatsmith (common monster), a Pelacor Bandit (common monster), and a Pelacor Deceiver (common monster).

Daily Quest # 454 - Win 5 with Snipe. For finishing this daily quest, I received 9 Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), 2 Gold potions, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Gargoya Lion (common monster), and a Lava Launcher (epic monster)! The previous day, I accidentally clicked claim quest early on InvestYGator in Silver III, but one of the two chests was also a Lava Launcher, giving me enough to level it up!

The card only gets +1 Health at level 2. Level 3 is where it gets +1 Damage, which is a much better upgrade.

Daily Quest # 455 - Win 5 with Snipe. Going Snipe quests 3 days strong! For completing this daily quest, I got 4 DEC, a Legendary potion, a Pelacor Conjurer (common monster), a Gargoya Lion, a Twilight Basilisk (rare monster), and a Venari Seedsmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 456 - Win 5 with Fire… re-rolled to Win 5 with Water. I finally won enough to get back to Gold II. For finishing this daily quest, I received 4 DEC, a Legendary potion, a Gold potion, a Gargoya Lion, a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster), and an Exploding Rats (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 457 - Win 5 with Fire… re-rolled to Win 5 with Snipe! Dropped back to Gold III after getting a lot of bad beats. Some days the game just hates me. Anyhow, after some aggravating losses, I just claimed the rewards in Gold III getting 16 DEC, a Legendary potion, a Gold potion, a Pelacor Bandit, a Pelacor Conjurer, and a Venari Wavesmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 458 - Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I received a Legendary potion, a Pelacor Bandit, and 32 DEC (9 + 7 + 5 + 11).

Daily Quest # 459 - Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 3 with No Neutral! I accidentally claimed this 3 rating points shy of Gold II -- the price of playing distracted. For completing this daily quest, I got 23 DEC (11 + 5 + 7), a Naga Assassin (rare monster), a Venari Crystalsmith (rare monster), and a Twilight Basilisk (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 460 - Win 5 with Life… re-rolled to win 5 with Snipe. After getting back to Gold II finally, I got 6 DEC (1 + 5), 2 Legendary potions, a Venari Heatsmith, a Pelacor Conjurer, and a Pelacor Mercenary.

I opened a bunch of Untamed packs before Chaos Legion came out. I'm going to put those in a second post of pack images, to keep this one a bit shorter. But, I'm planning to switch over to opening a couple Chaos Legion packs instead of Untamed.

Tournaments:

I didn't sign up for any tournaments this week. Too much to do and not a lot that I felt really great about entering. I may give it another shot, now that Chaos Legion is out and the meta is changing a bit.

Guild Brawls:

Brawl #49 & #50, playing Gold foil Bronze Untamed. I had no opponents in either brawl. But, the guild came in 1st place for both of them. So, I got enough Merits to open another Gladiator pack.

Two rares is nice, though since I only play the Gold Foil brawl right now I'm not able to use any of these regular ones, in the rare case that I get an actual match.

The Rest:

The Lava Launcher was the only card of note from InvestYGator this past week. As mentioned before, I sold some packs for DEC or Hive, but the only thing I really bought was potions. I'm holding onto most of the DEC for further Splintershard Token (SPS) air drop points.

With the 2nd round of the Voucher air drops starting, I should be getting about 9 a day with having kept all of my SPS staked. I'll probably be selling or trading a lot of them, to save up funds for the general sale to try to buy even more packs. Hopefully they won't sell out within seconds!

I think Chaos Legion is a chance to try to work on getting my other Splinters up to Silver level, if not Gold. Still, it's a LOT of cards to really hit those league limits. Have to see how many packs I can end up getting when they do the general sale of the last 12 million.

Support has been going fairly well, though the release has kind of distracted me from picking up too much support work recently. It seems like the turnaround for new tickets is getting a bit better, with a few specific exceptions that the team is trying to address. And, that's about it for this week!

My goal for the rest of the season is to work on accumulating either specific Chaos Legion cards at what I think might be a good price, or shoot for saving up to buy a lot more packs in the general sale.
