My Splinterlands Blog #69- Packs Are Back! (and other news)

Welcome to another entry where I write about my journey playing Splinterlands! Initially it was a self challenge, to see how far I could get with the initial set of cards plus whatever I could win. But, that kind of fell apart around week 30 (with the game integrating with the WAX network and users being able to buy and sell cards on Atomic Hub). Now, it’s mainly just me tracking my progress within the game.

It's been quite a hectic week for me, so this may be coming out a little later than usual. There's also been a lot of updates to Splinterlands, with the biggest one being that Chaos Legion Packs can now be found in daily and seasonal reward chests! The odds are quite low, but the odds also scale up slightly in the higher leagues. The next air drop also happened, as the 7 million packs sold threshold was crossed!

A very useful new Legendary neutral monster with the Triage healing ability. I got lucky and got 2 copies from the air drop!

There have been quite a few little updates to the game as well. One long-standing gripe has finally been addressed, in that you can now see the collection power of cards inside the market. As mentioned previously, almost weekly updates have been going out, and you can find them posted here.

The price of cards has come down a bit, making getting into the game a bit easier. You could get a Gold level copy of this card for under seven dollars.

My alt account InvestYGator is an account I play in Silver league, so I can say with some authority that Silver league was crazy this season. The people at the top of the leaderboard had ratings that would otherwise be good for Diamond league. I was able to easily grind enough rating to jump up to Gold I with that account at the end of the season, the highest placement I've hit with that account. Anyhow, onto the usual weekly breakdown of my main account!

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 505 - Win 5 with Dragon. For finishing this daily quest, I received 131 (120 + 1 + 1 + 9) Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), a Pelacor Bandit (common monster), a Pelacor Mercenary (common monster), a Naga Assassin (rare monster), and a Gargoya Devil (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 506 - Win 5 with Life… re-rolled to Win 5 with Fire. I went ahead and rented a Yodin Zaku for 283 DEC to get this done with less fuss. For completing the daily quest, I received a Gold potion, 2 Legendary potions, 2 Venari Heatsmiths (common monster), a Gargoya Lion (common monster), a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Gargoya Devil.

Daily Quest # 507 - Win 5 with Sneak. For completing this daily quest, I got 29 (10 + 10 + 2 + 7) DEC, a Legendary potion, 2 Pelacor Conjurers (common monster), and a Venari Bonesmith (rare monster). Of note, I got an epic monster, Djinn Chwala, on InvestyGator as part of his daily quest!

Daily Quest # 508 - Win 5 with Death… re-rolled to Win 5 with Sneak. For finishing this quest, I received 50 (29 + 13 + 4 + 4) DEC, a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, and 2 Pelacor Deceivers (common monster).

Daily Quest # 509 - Win 5 with Dragon. For finishing this daily quest, I got 20 DEC, a Gold potion, 2 Pelacor Deceivers, a Pelacor Conjurer, a Venari Bonesmith, a Venari Seedsmith (rare monster), and a gold foil Gargoya Lion!

Daily Quest # 510 - Win 3 with No Neutral. For finishing this daily quest, I received 33 (23 + 10) DEC, 1 Gold potion, 2 Pelacor Bandits, a Venari Heatsmith, a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Venari Wavesmith (rare monster).

Daily Quest # 511 - Win 5 with Life… re-rolled to Win 5 with Earth. For completing this daily quest, I got 23 DEC, 3 Gold potions, a Gargoya Lion, a Pelacor Deceiver, a Pelacor Bandit, and a Pelacor Mercenary.

Daily Quest # 512 - Win 5 with Earth. After finishing this daily quest, I advanced to Diamond III and got 118 (6 + 21 + 91) DEC, a Gold potion, 2 Legendary potions, 2 Pelacor Deceivers, a Pelacor Mercenary, and a Venari Bonesmith.

I also opened a couple of Chaos Legion packs:

A great Earth pack with Grund and Obsidian!

Two solid rares in this pack, though neither is a summoner.

Tournaments:

Silvershield Knights Tournament, Silver League rules, Dice and Untamed only: I signed up for one tournament this week, and did okay considering how much trouble I tend to have in Silver. I went 7-12 overall, coming in 28th place for 60 Splintershard tokens (SPS).

Guild Brawls:

Guild Brawl #60, playing Gold foil Bronze, Untamed only. The guild hasn't been doing great at brawls this past week. With some missed entries and tougher competition, we came in 7th place.

The Rest:

You may have noticed a lot less commentary in my articles, and that they've been a bit more dry reports of what I've gotten in the game. ("No! No!" you might protest politely, while trying to keep from dozing off.) In the interest of full disclosure, I have been offered and accepted a full-time position with Splinterlands.

Not in a support role, as you might guess from my previous part-time volunteer-into-paid support position that I was doing. (Or, equally surprising, not as a writer!) My actual day job for the past several years has been doing software development for a web-based application, which is unsurprisingly applicable to Splinterlands. I did a few weeks trial run, fixed a few bugs that annoyed me as a player or as support, and they offered to bring me on full time.

So, rather than complain about aspects of the game that I may not like on a blog, that the owners probably have never read, I'm in a position to try to suggest changes that might actually improve them. My promotion of the game should also be taken with a grain of salt, though if I hated it I wouldn't have played it for over a year. Also, I can't write about anything that hasn't been publicly announced... granted, I don't really know too much beyond obvious upcoming enhancements like the Wild/Modern format split.

Anyhow, back to the end of the season! InvestYGator made out decently with a gold foil Pelacor Bandit and Lava Launcher. A lot of potions as well, which may be a sign I need to open more packs!

I made out much better with my main account, getting 3 Chaos Legion packs and a legendary Djinn Oshannus! A lot of rare cards as well. I did not open the packs yet, but will for the next update!

For the next season, I expect it will be about the same. I'll keep on farming rewards and trying to build up some DEC, to eventually buy more cards. I have a bunch of Chaos Legion packs that I'm holding until the legendary summoner cards have a chance to be in them.
