Chaos Legion Private Sale, Let There Be Chaos, Or Not?

Chaos Legion Private Sale, Let There Be Chaos, Or Not?

Recent speculation is that Splinterlands will be holding a private sale for the highly anticipated Chaos Legion booster packs. This private sale will be available to members of select guilds (incoming communities from new games from what I’ve seen/heard), most of which (if not all) are whales of games. This has caused quite a bit of backlash in the Youtube communities that I follow, many comments talking about leaving the game all together if the Splinterlands team does go through with this private sale. I think it would be wrong to leave the game however, and here is why.

My first point being we don’t have all the information regarding this private sale. This sale could be for a select amount of packs, perhaps the development team puts aside 3-5Mil packs for this private sale, in which case I’m all for it! Some of the concerns with the general sale has been the possibility of the site crashing due to the traffic and demand once the general sale happens, in which case it wouldn’t just cause chaos for those purchasing packs, but for all players that would just simply be trying to play the game! If the Splinterlands team can do something to alleviate some of that traffic and hopefully make the process for us little guys more smooth, then please do. This will be the first chance to purchase packs from Splinterlands for the majority of its player base, considering the spike it had between July and September, so keeping things smooth and simple would be preferred there. If you don’t want to lose out on those airdrops, I’m going to do what I can to acquire a voucher and purchase a pack now before this private sale goes down, otherwise it’s a gamble.

My second point, I don’t believe the developers are trying to screw over the majority of its player base. Obviously, most of us aren’t whales, and the dev team definitely knows that, why would they purposely alienate their biggest portion of their player base, the foundation of their growth, the reason Splinterlands has become one of the biggest NFT games to date? I’m sure they know hanging their current new players out to dry on this would be quite detrimental to the game, not to the point of the game ending or anything crazy like that, but it would cause players to leave and cause a negative reputation for the game as a whole, which I don’t believe is what they want. Maybe I’m wrong and they are just going for the money grab on this one, but I don’t think that’s the case simply because it hinders their wallets in the long run, so even from a business perspective it wouldn’t make too much sense.

Lastly, I’m with the majority, I don’t want a private sale (unless it’s limited and used to reduce traffic for the actual general sale release). However, if they do move forward with the private sale, and if ALL those 14 packs do sellout, just know that it’s not the end of the world. I’ve seen many players speaking on losing trust in the developers, and I’m not going to lie, I’d see your point if they did sell all packs in that private sale, but there’s so much more the game still has to offer that we know about, and even more that we don’t I’m sure! With Chaos Legion comes the Modern format gameplay, which will have cards from the Chaos Legion packs and the Untamed packs playable. This new format will possibly have two reward pulls which means double the rewards! On top of that, I believe I read somewhere (this could be wrong) that the rewards in the Modern format will typically be SPS. If you’re not thrilled to earn SPS, let me tell you that you should be! For one, SPS being Splinterlands’ governance token has some great credibility with it, but it can also be used to purchase future packs as well, and you can stake it!!! That last part is very important because you get awarded vouchers based on the amount of SPS you have staked, and the Splinterlands team has said they plan to utilize vouchers the same way they have with the Chaos Legion presale (1 voucher per pack), so if you don’t have enough vouchers to purchase the packs you want in Chaos Legion, you can certainly earn enough for future pack presales and other possibilities! Secondly, again, if you just hate SPS, you can always convert it to your favorite crypto!

Don’t let any of this information of a private sale get you down. If it happens, it happens, and if not we can all be ecstatic! I just believe the Splinterlands team is going to do the right thing and wouldn’t leave it’s loyal fanbase out to dry. Hopefully they just give us more notice in the future! ;)
