Profit Shouldn't Come Before People

It's just so sad how AI is taking over more jobs, leaving so many people struggling to find stable work. Companies basically just focus on profit, and cost cutting almost always comes at the expense of employees. Instead of investing in people and a supportive work environment, many businesses would rather replace their human workers with machines to save money. I don't blame them though because a business is established for profits but it's too much this days.
A factory that used to employ hundreds of workers, now with the advent of robots in this factory, most jobs are taken over. This might prove to be more profitable for the company but will leave thousands of people jobless and burdened with making ends meet.
This thrust for profit over people means that workers are usually viewed as replaceable, and that can be very discouraging. Take, for instance, retail work. Interest is growing towards self-checkout machines. While they would indeed save on labor costs, they also drastically cut down the number of cashiers needed at these businesses. this is devastating for too many who work such jobs to support their families.
It is about time that we started thinking seriously about work benefiting everybody and how technological development can be of benefit to all, and not a small band of rich people. Businesses should be investing in their workers and making sure they have environments where people felt valued.
Instead of looking at how they can replace jobs with AI, businesses should seek ways to make human work more efficient through technology. Society must find a balance between the march of progress and human welfare. We should create a chance for everybody to succeed.
