Why Motivation Isn't Enough - On Ecency

source

Hi there dear friends on Ecency and all other Frontends on Hive, once again TheRingMaster is back without another very life changing realization.

You know, I was say to my friends on Hive that I'm very motivated to be here, to be active, to make friends and to engage a lot but there's one thing I've realized and it's just about my Hive experience but all other life experience.

One very funny observation is that almost every single year, people, well including me, write New Year’s Resolutions. It is indeed great to feel like a newborn baby and make new resolutions. The excitement and enthusiasm backing new year resolutions is really enormous, I feel super motivated to make some dramatic changes to my life.

Usually the resolutions that have constantly topped my list almost always include making more money, changing my relationship status and getting into shape, although I'm not overweight, in the contrary I'm slim and it's always about gaining more pounds in the gym.

So because of that I ended up paying for a gym membership many times over the years or purchasing workout clothes from local sports wear stores.

This is the year I will do it has been my motto and I go on YouTube to download lots of motivational, make money and workout videos

Whenever I start, it feels like this motivation is enough. So I get very pumped and start going to the gym regularly.

I start watching lots of gym videos on YouTube but there's one very funny thing people don't realize about Gym videod and money making videos online; the people teaching you have been doing it for years.

They didn't just start 2 months ago. some have been doing it for over a decade to have the results they are teaching online.

So by watching them one can easily be misled that after one month of workouts we will resemble them someday or by 1 year you'll end up a multi millionaire but this is not true by any means.

What happened often was that I would be really pumped up in the first month of starting a new exercise program, almost going to the gym every day. However other things begin taking precedence. Stressful work at times causes me not to achieve my objectives and this affects my mood. There are times when I get flu or something that makes it hard for me to maintain my routine. Missing one day turns into two, and then two days turn into a week. Months fly by and I realize that I haven’t been to the gym.

Looking back on this experience, I have come to see that lack of motivation is not what was wrong with me. The problem lies in relying purely on motivation; at least if we are talking from experience. My own experience has taught me that motivation does not last long. It is easy to be enthusiastic at first but as soon as real-life gets challenging, enthusiasm evaporates like steam.

Discipline is what counts.

One very consistent thing that most of my friends tell me on Hive and Ecency is that the admire my passion for growth in the platform but I should make sure not to "burn out".

I realized that those friends really understood the difference between motivation and discipline.

It's really without a doubt that, discipline is the main key to any achievement in life. Discipline requires you to keep going even if you don't feel like so. I wouldn't want to sound weak to anyone but even while writing this blog, I'm not feeling too good.

You may ask; RingMaster why are you stressing that much then?

It's because I understand discipline and I have a vision to do well as a blogger on Web3, Hive

Here's a question I would love to ask you.
Do you actually think that Nelson Mandela ever wanted to spend 27 years of his life in jail? Not at all, and I bet you motivation to see his country free is not what kept him there for that long. It was the discipline to sustain pain, humiliation and discomfort that made him a hero in South Africa.

People with discipline commit themselves to their causes and that’s how they remain regardless of the difficulties they encountered.

Discipline to me means showing up every day and doing the work even though you don’t want to do it at that moment.

I remember just yesterday watching an interview of the renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. He said everyone wants to be him but not everyone is ready to pay the price he paid the price and the price is discipline.

Here's the link to that short clip I watched on TikTok yesterday

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMMwWkcfx/

I have also acquired knowledge about the importance of keeping realistic expectations. Don't get me wrong friends, it's really good to dream big, but please be pragmatic enough to recognize what could be achieved within a short span of time.

Becoming a millionaire is very realistic but doing it in 3 months starting from scratch is almost not unless if you get lucky and find a gold mine under your house, hehehe

Instead of comparing myself to fitness gurus and multi millionaires who have been doing it for years, I take note of my own progress. Keeping track of small victories helps keep positivity and dedication.

Finally, I realized that having a support system really does go a long way in helping me achieve my goals. That's why I don't joke with the friends I make on Hive, they are very important to me.

I hope this rather brief blog enlightens you to focus more on becoming disciplined and not only Motivated to do something. Thanks for the time guys, I enjoyed sharing this realization with you.

Discipline is indeed something you need to be successful. Since it doesn’t happen overnight, it takes time. The stoics therefore had discipline as one of their main virtues a man/woman should aim for.

Absolutely and well said my good friend... It is the ultimate key for all the big successful people out there

Yep, I feel you...motivation is great for a month. In that one month, you need to find your discipline because without it everything has crumbled so far for me as well.

Let's keep grinding and let's keep winning!

Absolutely, you get the point... I'm glad you understand the difference... And well said, the motivation of the first month 😂😂 if you don't find transition to discipline you're definitely going to quit., thanks so much for reading.. I appreciate this

You know when it's easy to be motivated? In the beginning and when things go well. You know when it's not easy? When things are hard. That's when discipline and grind come in that make you keep going, particularly when many others give up.

I'm glad you are hearing the calls from your new found friends on Hive to make sure not to burn out. It is a long journey, and it will have its ups and downs. This is the up part both for you and for the market (and eventually the price of HIVE). But the reverse will come. That's where your determination and discipline will be tested, at least where Hive is concerned. It will also be the best time to build your stake on Hive. Today isn't bad either.

Wow thank you so much my good friend... People like you are the reason I won't burn out because you give great advice... Thank you so much and I'll be preparing for the down times as well... But I have a question since you brought up the Hive Down time... Do you think there will be a time where Hive will go down and never rise? I really hope not but I need an experienced person to confirm for me

Do you think there will be a time where Hive will go down and never rise?

Theoretically, everything is possible.

Practically, I believe this is a very unlikely scenario if things are well-managed.

That doesn't mean HIVE will keep making all-time highs after all-time highs every cycle, even when other coins will. The price of HIVE may have a mind of its own, which many remarked.

You hit the nail on the head with such a powerful realization. Yep, motivation helps but it isn't all is. Discipline matters (a lot)! It's what keep you going no matter what.

Wow thanks so much for taking your precious time to read my blog dearest friend... I appreciate it and thanks so much for your compliment... Discipline is really what makes the difference 🥰

I know you mentioned before that follower count is not necessarily an indicator of success, but man you are FLYING up the ranks here! Got any tips for a slow moving old timer on how to pick up more followers?

Wow man you're a veteran... I actually should come to you for all the advice... I have deep respect for the people that have lasted very long on this platform... I guess if I have to advice, well I'm not in the position to because I see you as a veteran but the little I can say is that I'm very dedicated.. I take almost any old person I see on this platform as a friend and they all tend to like me... So because of that , they advice me, support my work and I'm making so many friends... I show respect to everyone.. to be honest some of them have been very rude to me but I still act nicely because I don't want any trouble... But they main key to my progress is sacrifice, I spend a lot of time in Hive and I'm working my ass off😁 because I believe that Decentralization is the future.

Well man, it’s paid off. Honestly i thought you were an AI bot for a minute there, just because your dedication is so unparalleled! (That’s why i asked you some weird questions recently…) Sorry for thinking that/testing you, I’ve just never seen anyone so fiercely dedicated - I hope you’ll take it as a compliment that i viewed your efforts as too good to be human 🤣

But yeah, you’ve got as many followers in 3-4 months the as i had after like a year and a half!

Wow to be honest you're not the first one of my good friends to be wondering this.😂🥰🥰🥰 One of my good friends Shaidon explained to be how fast I was going and I was shocked that I was actually making a lot of effort.....I plan on working really hard that perhaps one day, This could actually be my full time Job because I so believe in Hive's future 🥰🥰 glad to be friends with you man... Thank you and I absolutely take this as a compliment....

The interesting thing is that I don't even know that it's possible for an account to be a bot... Not too much into the technical aspect of this platform 😂

I’m not sure either, but with the availability of open source AI libraries I think if you created a normal account and then wrote an app that could log in and act on your behalf, it wouldn’t be too far out of reason - one of my coworkers has a masters in AI development and is always telling me about the projects he’s working on at home - it’s pretty astonishing what people can do now.

I’m glad you’re real though, because you seem like an excellent human! I’m excited for you to become a professional Hiver - you’re no doubt on your way!

Thanks good friend, to be honest it's no easy thing, sometimes it's fun talking with so many friends and sometimes I'm very tired so I rest and come back.. but I'll definitely advice anyone to meet the right friends.. they make the platform so enjoyable 🥰🥰🥰

I agree there! …Hive was a bit of a lonely place for me in the beginning, but over the years I’ve met some real ride or die folks, I’ve learned some things and gotten inspiration that’s carried over into my life outside of the internet. Hive is definitely a legit place once you find your way - which I’d say you have!

Thank you so much... Indeed I've found so many friends I know name, family, lifestyle, hobbies and even life issues... Funny enough I've connected more with people here than on WhatsApp and Facebook

I love the accountability Hive brings - and the fact that it’s not connected to my phone number. I really wanted a place where I could be me, not husband, dad or employee or whatever, just the me that I am when I’m free to be alone. I love family and friends and all, but it’s nice to just be me, which Hive really allows.

It's no easy thing so the Ecency team is really proud of me all the time and they keep motivating me... Well actually now it's very normal for me to be at the top because of the number of friends I've made... The moment I wake up and open Hive, there's so many friends to talk to and read blogs so I've got a lot of engagement.. and maybe if you didn't notice, I really know how to keep a conversation 🥰🥰😂😂😂

I'm also a speed reader and know how to type really really fast... I could be handling a WhatsApp group and like 2 different friends on my chat list at the same time.. so I kinda brought that personality to Hive😁😂

Thank you so much good friend... Well I'm trying to get myself ready to see if it's possible to do ten times more than I'm already doing because it would take intense amount of work to be the very best.... If you can check my profile you'd realize my description was exactly so...to be the very best... Can't wait to be a minow... I power up the slightest Hive I get and I save every single HBD into savings because I was advised by some big friends that that's the way to grow fast and big here 🥰

Dude I read your description on day one! I as like, this guy’s either crazy, or just hella ambitious - and now I know it’s the latter 🤣

I do the same thing man, HP and HBD savings! My saving account is making me almost $30/month now, which isn’t huge but it feels good!

Are you familiar with HSBI? I will sponsor you with some next time I get some liquid Hive…although your posts already make like 3-4x as much as mine🤣 but you’re earning it- you’re an excellent addition to the chain bro :)

Wow big brother your words have brought so much fire to my already motivated spirit... Yes absolutely a good friend of mine talked to me about it and added me to a Busy Bees Community.. well so far haven't earned much of the HSBI but I'm super duper appreciative of your good gestures towards me... Thank you so much... We are definitely going up together here bro👌

Yeah, I think the reason I have the subscribers I do is actually because I was hardcore about engagement like 2 years ago - I just had forgotten about it but you reminded me with your inspiring work!

Also the activity thing does become a bit self-fulfilling, because the more you engage, the more responses you get, then the more responses you send 😅
