The Attitude Era and its end

Hey there lovely people of the Hive Universe! It's your wrestling boy P, always happy to bring you content and updates on everything WWE, WOOGame, and Wrestling Worldwide

Going back memory lane when I enjoyed watching WWE (then known as WWF), with my friends, as we would cheer for our favorite wrestlers and get excited about the performances in the ring.

One era that stood out in my mind was the Attitude Era.

The Attitude Era for me wasn’t just about the matches, Nope!

It had an atmosphere. Wrestlers were like superhero characters, storylines were crazy, plus there was that rebellious energy that could not be ignored.

It felt like anything could happen, and this unpredictability made it exciting to watch.

The Attitude Era had to end though, like all good things do.

But amongst fans, there is a lot of argument about when exactly it ended. For me this happened on April 1st 2001 at WrestleMania 17, which marked the beginning of the end.

I’ll never forget how shocked I was when my hero at the time, Stone Cold Steve Austin, turned heel and joined forces with Mr. McMahon.

It was a moment that changed the landscape of WWE forever and signaled the end of the edgier, and more adult-oriented content of the Attitude Era.

But of course there were other factors in play as well.

The purchase of WCW by Vince McMahon in March 2001 marked an important turning point in wrestling history. And then, there was also the aftermath of 9/11 which led to changes in the product, like toning down violence and renaming shows.

Looking back, it is obvious that the attitude era was something very special, but couldn’t last forever. Even though I miss those crazy acts and ridiculously exaggerated stories, I can understand that wrestling had to change with changing times.

Today, WWE is not what it used to be, but still remains a big part of my life.

I will always cherish memories from my living room every week.

Thanks for reading, y'all!
