The Day Reverse Psychology Failed Me

Sometimes the use of reverse psychology can actually lead you from frying pan to fire.

While growing up ( senior secondary education), I was among the not so bright students then...In other words, I wasn't dull, neither was I brilliant...I was just somewhere in between, and as a student whose sit was in the first row, I was an easy target for teachers who loved to ask questions about what they taught.

Well, as a smart guy, I decided to avoid close eye contact with teachers the moment they asked a question and was in search of a person to answer the question.
My theory actually worked because I escaped questions at least 80% of the Time.
"But what actually happens 20% of the time?" You may ask...hehe I get caught, and it's usually not in a good way... one of such moments is what I will talk about in this post.

So it was on a Monday morning, just after the assembly had ended. We always had English as the first subject on Mondays, and the teachers in charge of this subject had one thing in common which still bothers me till this very moment...they were all bald.

For some reason, Mrs Lizzy, who was the one that taught us English every Monday, still believed her hair could miraculously spring out, so she always kept us updated with the current hair growth cream she switches to, before the main topic for that day. Well, as usual on that wonderful Monday, she came in, and talked about how her new treatment made 3 strands of hair grow 2 earlier, only to wake up that Monday and find out 2 were no longer on her head...in the mist off her usual complaint/cock and bull story, the only thing I could do to wipe away time, was to meditate on something, obviously not book, I have never meditated on my books lol, but rather how well I ate, and played the previous day, wishing I could fast forward the time to Sunday again.

Well, this particular Monday morning, I most likely was out of luck hence Mrs lizzy caught me looking unconsciously at her bald head and smiling...probably she thought I was laughing at her, meanwhile I was only in my place of Imagination...and Within minutes, she left her story aside, and asked the whole class a question.

As usual, many brilliant kid's hands were up and waving impatiently, on a very good day, mine would have been somewhere under my desk, and my eyes far from her location, hoping and praying my trick works for me again...but since I noticed her eyes was tightly locked onto me, I decided to make use of the new trick Seun, my close friend taught me, which was the reversed psychology trick which according to him was the only reason why his hands were always up whenever a question was asked in class.

The idea was to raise my hand, posing like I know the answer to the question asked even though I have no idea about how to answer the question. And so I raised my right hand,

waving it eagerly and smiling with a blank brain....well, she didn't hesitate to call me to the front of the class, to answer her questions lol.

My countenance changed immediately (me that didn't even hear her question), with fear of being laughed at, most especially with the fear of being beaten. The little wisdom in me made me look at Seun who sits just beside me, for answers to her question...After all he was the one that put me Into the situation in the first place. Seun's facial expression should have served as a warning that he was as confused as I was but then I ignored his facial expressions, and stared seriously at him like I wanted to squeeze answers out of him.

And after several wasted seconds, he whispered "Shakespeare's last speech"...on hearing this it sounded too off-topic, but since I myself didn't hear Mrs Lizzy's question, I repeated exactly what Seun said, with so much boldness and charisma, unknown to me that I was totally off point I walked back to my sit with joy, and was even about to give Seun a hand shake, only to look up and see the class, including Mrs Lizzy looking, and beginning to laugh at me, for saying rubbish with so much boldness and joy.
